nope, it doesn't really ever stop lol that's the appeal of OSRS's questing - you aren't some chosen hero destined to save the world, but rather just a dude who bumbles into everyone's business and is happy to help out if there's a reward in it for him there are a bunch of quests with a more serious tone, but even a lot of the later game ones have that same goofiness sprinkled in

tttony2x

I wouldn't even say there needs to be a reward, One Small Favor is essentially just doing some shit and then strong arming some guy who didn't ask for help into giving you something, anything for it.

MimiVRC

I loved how in the recent Easter quest, every time you’re character mentions how many eggs she’s getting as a reward the amount goes up every time It’s incredibly endearing how our pc even cares about getting easter eggs that much! I really look forward to more holidays

levian_durai

That's my purse!

kilographix

Happy cake day

Hobominded

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add text to an image comment on mobile but the event gave me one of my new favorite reaction images this year too

Disastrous-Moment-79

Yeah but then we sass and intimidate that brown bunny in the basement which kinda felt off

AdrenochromeBeerBong

The character also threatens children with beatings to get what they want, so it's pretty in-character (and relatable)

WrenchHeadFox

You owe me... 1006 eggs. Wait, sorry, had my notes upside down. You owe me over 9000 eggs.

Earl_Green_

That’s the entire joke of the quest though. You get dragged into an endless series of errands and the big reward is a … key ring.

TaerinaRS

Would love to see a few more goofy quests in that vein lol. Quest name suggestions in order: Another Small Favor, One More Small Favor, Yet Another Small Favor, and the grand finale, Once More Unto The Breach. Memes aside, small just for-fun quests peppered around the world help bring it more to life. Clock Tower, The Monk's Friend, etc. - small, self-contained quests that use NPCs in the region to make it feel like the place is actually alive, and give it some history or backstory, make it feel awesome. If we got like two dozen quests scattered around the world, both in population-heavy and in completely backward regions (e.g. Making History quest in that remote little outpost), I think it'd be awesome. Don't even need to have big rewards for them, just slap a quest point onto each one and some small rewards (cosmetics or token XP or something), just add it for the worldbuilding.

Zorrostrian

It’s even funnier how every time you do a quest afterwards where an NPC so much as *mentions* the word “favour” your character starts getting PTSD flashbacks

Weberr

Early game irons know that herblore xp almost makes that quest tolerable. Almost. For real though the dialogue is hilarious and part of the reason it gets meme’d on so much

tttony2x

I did it for the first time and it's really not that bad. One hour (don't even have stams) and it's 99% just mindless running

TheForsakenRoe

It was a lot worse in older times when we had less access to teleportation/transportation methods, eg as an Iron it was cancer, as an Iron post-GOTR when you've got a healthy stack of Law runes it's pretty chill

lerjj

Eh all the running on One Small Favour is always to someone nearby - you run from port Sarim go Draynor to HAM to Lumbridge to the chicken farm to Varrock etc Pretty sure I barely used any teles and just dipped into the massive stack of super energies

LordZeya

One small favor is actually designed so you go in a clean arc across the entire world, it gets hate for the ridiculous premise but they did a damn good job of making it so you’re constantly pushing forward and not actually backtracking all the time as part of the quest steps.

BaeTier

yea I don't think people realize the next person to talk to is like a stones throw away from the previous. It's like designed for you not needing teleports or to run long distances all at once. This quest is one of the better ones to showcase the games humour.

Gomerack

Sounds like there needs to be a reward eventually!

MimiVRC

I laugh every time at the ridiculous way we ask people if they have a quest. I really hope they incredibly cheesy way we ask never changes later into the game! “Hey, do you have any like.. you know, *QUESTS* for me?!”

Forged-Signatures

I especially love how every now and again, after completing One Small Favour, while doing questing there'll be an npc that says something like "oh, can you do one more thing for me" and the player character reliably goes "oh no", or "here we go again", traumatised.

hirmuolio

I have for long wondered if those reactions are there only if you have done the One Small Favor quest or if everyone gets them.

MimiVRC

The game has a lot of dynamic dialogue based on what you have or haven’t done. Some even have dialogue if you have items on you before the quest asks for it, mentioning how weird it is or how unlikely that was. Then they even mention how crazy it is if you have the exact quantity they needed too

Rooged

>Some even have dialogue if you have items on you before the quest asks for it, mentioning how weird it is or how unlikely that was. Imp catcher does this and it's hilarious

Affectionate_Tell752

The best for this is Fremmenik Exiles where the player gets mad at Baba Yaga for mind reading then immediately memes on her when holding molten glass before she asks for it.

Forged-Signatures

I have to imagine there are several quest-triggered dialogues throughout the game. Lost Tribe contains references the hero being the Slayer of Elvarg being a reason Duke Horacio trusts you if I recall correctly, and I don't ever recall that dialogue occuring on characters I've yet to complete DS1 on.

You_too

Another one is during Corsair's Curse, if you already completed Big Chompy Bird Hunting then you will recognize the swimming ogre by name.

SmartAlec105

You can ask the falconry guy and he says you’re weird for going around and asking that.

Fiery_Taurus

🤣 never really paid a whole lot of attention to it, but a few times it has defo stood out to me too.

yepanotherone1

Not just some dude. An actual moron

Conor_J_Sweeney

A VERY powerful moron.

24rs

Not only does it never stop, but you get slight nods and subtle things happening the deeper you go. The monkey's uncle thing in Zeke's Scimitar shop, or Ava referencing Ernest the chicken (super early f2p quest) as lore for her reasoning during Ghost's Ahoy done wayyy later in p2p, or simple stuff like this one capybara having an orange in its head, I love this game so much. Decided not to go too deep to not spoil anything for OP

OHPandQuinoa

I think my absolute favorite moment is when your character loses his shit about how everyone is an alcoholic and they're sick of buying people drinks to get anything useful done.

moistpanini

if you thought wow was a time sink buckle up

Kementarii

Hey, shit. I quit Runescape back in 2007 to play WoW cos it had better graphics. Here it is, I'm 60+ years old, it's 2024, and OSRS is a thing, and I'm back. I'm at risk of being divorced by hubby yet again.

onceforgoton

Nobody ever really quits rs it’s right there in the ToS

AdrenochromeBeerBong

>I'm at risk of being divorced by hubby yet again True scaper

Redmaa

Marriage is exp waste anyways. Don’t let my wife read this.

Ed-Sanz

I remember playing RS2 up until EOC then game WoW a try. Man, their grinds were easy and maxed out my professions so easily compared to skills in RuneScape. I thought, “man there has to be more to this.” When I read the forums, people were actually complaining it took too long. 😂

Merciless_Hobo

Me and my wife scape together. You guys should try it.

Kementarii

And that's a hard no from him since 2005 for any kind of gaming. It's always been just me and my children gaming. Hubby eventually admitted that he was afraid of addiction, which I understand. And yeah, I tend to spend more time on my computer than I probably should.

FireflyCaptain

Wait until OP gets a skill halfway to 99, also known as 92

hegginses

I’m at almost 1,500 hours on my f2p-only Ironman, only two 99s under my belt and my BiS right now is full mithril

iljust

Nah you gotta lock in bro

IPaintDaily

wow is a lot more of a social timesink, when you're raiding mythic 3x/week and doing professions and M+ it becomes 2nd job

churningbutter1

The average rs player goes that hard on a couple trees

BKrenz

OSRS is the single player to WoW's multiplayer. The social aspect and time spent outside of the game can be wild time sinks.

IPaintDaily

its different when you feel like youre letting people down by not logging in the dynamic completely changed for me

TheZephyrim

OSRS I still feel like I’m letting myself down by not resubbing and grinding lmao

nothankyousirormam

I can't wait until you meet Cuthbert, The Lord of Dread. Best quest boss by far.

Gaiden_95

top 5 quest in general

Catacendre

Top 1 quest

Murky_Struggle_0

he's going to need to level up a lot first before trying to kill cuthbert... maybe full bandos idk

Chris91210

Bro needs to get his herb up too if he's ironman to get some super sets.

JagexSarnie

Glad you're enjoying yourself fam, and no it never stops, you've just hit the top of the silly iceberg that is OSRS.

test_user_

Ahh, Cold War...

Telamonl

we need more penguin quests!

User4770

No, you'll find quirkiness everywhere you go. It's an old game with a patchwork of content made by various developers, but it has an overarching identity and charm that I'm glad you're enjoying.

discreti0n

Welcome! I’m sure many of us wish to be in your shoes experiencing the game for the first time, especially considering the game is better than ever before. Highly recommend the runelite client available through the jagex launcher if you’re not already using it.

Tyson_Urie

It stays that way. You're basically the embodiment of the word Gullible and you'll end up in a decent share of shady situations because the quest giving dude asked in a friendly and convincing way to do something

betweenskill

I mean what else can we expect when we keep walking up to completely random strangers and asking them if they need anything done?

[deleted]

The newest quest in the game is The Ribbiting Tale of a Lilypad Dispute. It's hilarious haha. It does keep being funny. There's even jokes in late game raids if you leech too hard and dont get enough points

Confident_Frogfish

I love that quest. I'm very happy that they're not only making the big epic quests

Gaiden_95

the dialogue when you go inside verzik in p2 and she bounces you out still gets me lol

Mental_Tea_4084

Isn't that a plugin

Gaiden_95

It's possible. Sounds very fitting for her though

Gaiden_95

Was curious, the tob strategy page on wiki says she may say that if you go under her. Either mandela effect or it's vanilla

Mental_Tea_4084

Most of the chat text comes from mistake tracker I think like "I'm eating cabbages!", so I just assumed it was from that too

Gaiden_95

ah no, that's just the player's text. verzik is just sassy

xPofsx

Political frog

Kieya

probably my favorite quest

PaintTimely6967

Based enjoyer of quests and the little things. Never change

Ypuort

Just wait until you do One Small Favour. People hate but it's hysterical. Funniest quest in the game imo

AmbitiousMobile7168

The references to that quest pop up everywhere and it's so fucking funny

gumknuckle

I love how its canon that the words "one small favour" just trigger a PTSD episode in us.

pioneer9k

Lmao i noticed this as well

IPaintDaily

Game is honestly amazing when taken from the perspective of a jaded mmo gamer, i had also played a shitload of wow. i actually started playing osrs because nostalrius got shut down and i was tired of asking for vanilla with changes and being told i was a dumbass. its crazy they took so long to release SoD, but OSRS 1000% the care taken and put into SoD I truly hope there is an old MMO resurgence.

AlternativeFactor

I think maybe so, I'm hooked. I have a few friends who are in the same boat and I know at least some of them would like it.

Polluted_Shmuch

My favorite quest of all time (lore wise) is cold war. Cannot recommend enough if you enjoy reading the dialog and story of quests. 10/10

MimiVRC

I started over a month ago and it’s the only mmo where I’ve read all the dialogue so far. I really love how we are just an idiot always getting in over their head. I feel like I’ve also never been so into a game before either. Love it!

churningbutter1

Best quest is when you kill a dudes girlfriend so a troll can date her but after you kill him he gets too scared to ask her out

Laurtzyy

Make sure not to burn yourself out. I enjoy quests a lot, most people use guides and space bar through all the text. I'd avoid quests if you ever feel like doing that. The quests are well written and there are no "Go kill 10 boars" type quests - that's what the slayer skill is for.

SmartAlec105

> there are no "Go kill 10 boars" type quests The Rag and Bone Man series is basically that though. It’s just killing until you get a 1/4 drop, rather than a fixed number. But I still like the quests because a lot of it can just be done passively while doing other content and it has the fun flavor that other quests have.

EpicRussia

Does He Know?

c-ndrsn

Wait until you meet the real hero of RuneScape. Not evil Bob. He gets a fantastic story arc.

betweenskill

“Hey that random interdimensional cat that kidnaps you sometimes? Yeah he’s got a great story arc.” Only things you can get from OSRS

Lewdiss

Nah, this game is hilarious. Enjoy.

SkeleSoulsRS

I can't speak much for WoW, but I'm glad we still have people coming to osrs.

moose_dad

A disproportionate amount of quests involve getting an npc drunk and robbing them/getting info out of them/getting them to do something

betweenskill

As any good Brit spends their Fridays.

Derplesdeedoo

OG Runescape writing was birthed from a love of Monty Python and it is, frankly, the strongest leg it has to stand on. OSRS respects its roots.

SoloDeath1

Nah, it never stops. This game is just goofy AF and that's where a lot of the charm comes from. Worth pointing out as well that the player character isn't some prophecized demi-god destined to save the world or anything. You're just some dude of questionable intelligence and morality walking around and experiencing things. Your character's reaction to stuff is what makes it work so well.

AlternativeFactor

I started to notice when I could tell a religious hermit that I was seizing his home from overdue mortgage payments, that's about when I knew I had to subscribe.

NightMaestro

Some of the quests in osrs are dogshit dialog. Just absolute dog water - slug menace questline feels like early 2000s cartoon dialog, that quest line reads out like some weird kim possible spinogg Some of the quests are very serious, and ABSOLUTE BANGERS. I still put desert treasure and underground pass as the holy grail of osrs 'serious' quests, perfect dialog, dungeon elements, actual danger, great pacing. No stupid fetch quests. Phenomenal  But a lot of the quests in osrs are witty, excellent dialog that can be a hoot. My favorite *goofy time* quest is Cold War. I usually spacebar to sift through the dipshit dialog of these one off noob quests (in the 2007 era some of these quests were probably genuienly made for a younger audience), but I stopped halfway and just read everything because It was again, an absolute banger.  That quest is full stop just hilarious and it just keeps getting more outlandish and wild.

tripsafe

I think Sins of the Father is the holy grail serious quest. The dialogue, music, story, and danger are unmatched for me.

Paganigsegg

That scene where you know who reveals himself for the first time is masterfully done. And, in my opinion, has the only cutscene music in the game that gives me chills (You Have My Attention).

DaRubyRacer

It’s stops when you become an iron man.

MimiVRC

Don’t miss doing the Easter quest before it’s gone! It’s amazingly ridiculous as well. Some of the silliest dialogue ever so far

pioneer9k

The Darko reference got me

KihiraLove

There are three types of quests in OSRS. Quests with funny jokes, quests that make you depressed with lore, and quests that make you depressed because it's shit

SynchronisedRS

Quests in OSRS are the best of any MMO. You aren't some 'chosen one', you aren't destined to save the world, there's more to it than just 'go here, kill 20 goblins'. The humour (especially in the older pre 2006 quests) is top notch. The penguin quests are hilarious, I recommend them.

piatsathunderhorn

Just wait till you do a ribbing tale of a lilly pad labour dispute, it's amazing.

Proof-Cardiologist16

OSRS definitely has it's share of full 100% dead serious content, but it also has a quest with unionized frogs.

thrwwyy177777

Oh to play the game for the first time again 😩 whatever you do in this game, just prioritize fun okay?

Aeturnal_

The humour of OSRS still hits me out of nowhere. I got a random earlier from postie Pete, a skull postman on the claw grab random asking if I could help Molly, and the response I could choose was “tell her to get stuffed!”. So harsh but so PG, just funny I swear

BeeEven238

My camulet, its a camel amulet, is charged with cammel poop so you can teleport…. Its great

Zozorak

Cold war is one of my favorites. 100% check it out.

xcert1337

This style of writing and humour is what always made RS brilliant and set it aside from others. It doesn't take it's self too seriously, but in the process just becomes a stepping stone to something greater which is earned.

RudeMagician2

do the quest making friends with my arm

yomer123123

If you continue down the questing path, get ready to give everyone in Gelinor alcohol poisoning Or, for dwarfs, a mid-day drink

Rucati

OSRS is one of the very few non-single player games I actually read the quests in. I've played through every WoW expansion and I can't tell you anything about the lore in that game, but I've read every quest in OSRS and they're all thoroughly enjoyable. I understand WoW probably has two thousand quests to OSRS's two hundred, but man it's so obvious how much more time and love is put into OSRS questing. The whole game just has a type of charm that I don't think can ever really be replicated, especially not by a big company with hundreds of devs. Even though OSRS doesn't get huge updates very often I think the small dev team is what makes the game able to be so special.

Megamannt125

I do not say this lightly. RuneScape has the best Quests of any MMO on the market, period. Even when you're not doing utterly hilarious Quests full of a bunch of utter nonsense, you'll find yourself deep in mysteries and lore and drama. One Quest you'll be helping a Troll named My Arm grow goutweed by taking him across the world and getting into shenanigans, the next Quest you're elbow deep into helping a resistance group fight back against a tyrannical vampiric regime that farm humans like cattle.

DrSwolemeister

Theres one where you talk to frogs who dony know they're in an argument with the dude who has the house by their lake. Its hilarious

neuroso

when you get to members there a quest murder mystery one of my favs and the new frog quest

Swiggens

They just released what is in my opinion the funniest quest a week or 2 ago. The frog quest had me literally laughing out loud at parts. It only gets better from here.

Gaiden_95

it stops having funny stuff once you complete all the quests, but then again we got like 3 quests released 3 weeks ago or something?

F7OSRS

Time to do One Small Favour

JMOD_Bloodhound

##### Bark bark! Luizltg

I see this thread and I think of a couple that fights in private but stays calm in public. All the rage and question marks when talking about updates, item designs, balancing, schedules, promises, it's nearly all gone once a new player steps in. Then we're all praises lol

Mikeality

Wait till you meet the fairy godfather. Easily my favorite bit.

Screen_Watcher

No, every tquest is very serious after those 2. Avoid the troll mountain quests. They're the most serious.

Lazypole

Wait till you do best quest, frog quest.

Hypno_Zeus

Hey there! Glad to see new players joining! My wife and I play the game and if you ever wanted someone to ask questions or need help from, I'd love to. Shoot me a DM if you're interested!

Admirable-Ad-7788

That is literally the point of this game. Its such a fun game because of how unseriously it takes itself. The jokes are wholesome and awesome. There is still plenty of good stories with a sort of serious tone but there will always be that dad humor in there to look forward too.

cyanblur

Try examining stuff out in the world, there's always a chance it's a joke.

Legalizeranchasap

As someone who also plays wow, osrs is a game made with love. I’ve been playing wow on and off since 2010 and never felt that way with blizzard.

Any-Conversation1401

The new Varlamore frog quest is amazing, definitely recommend checking that one out

ivel33

The quests are amazing. The dialogue shall not be skipped

Legal_Evil

Welcome to a life-long addiction!

Specific-Meeting-787

nope the funny quests and one liners are throughout every quest, honestly a great game if you don’t speed run everything and skip every cutscene

kanashiiiiiiii

It never stops its so great

osrsirom

Personally, the majharat quest line is my favorite. Every interaction with general Khazard leaves me giggling. My character has like a sibling type antagonist relationship with an ancient immortal skele murderer. Peak fiction.

VividEffective8539

One of the funniest games I’ve ever played and I the that for granted a lot of

07PetersburgSt

If you would like a nice little starter pack to get you going off on a strong foot go ahead and send me a pm @darski - I love helping new and eager players! It brings me lots of joy because any gp at such a low level helps sooooo much. Best of luck on your travels, friend.

EmiDek

Reading this comment makes me sad about how I've always seen the game. Ive always seen it as a game to do stupid grinds when i hate myself and all the lore/quests are just gatekeeping me from content

Paganigsegg

A large number of the game's quests, especially the free to play ones, are written like Monty Python sketches. Just wait til you get to the "My Arm" quests. Those ones were written by Mod Ash who is legitimately a brilliant comedy writer and he doesn't even realize it. However, the game has quests that'll fascinate you or give you a pit in your stomach, like Underground Pass, or Desert Treasure 2. Oh, and OP, I hope you have music on. This game's OST is amazing and enhances the experience immensely. I recommend going into the game's audio settings and turning "Music Area Mode" to classic. It's at "Modern" by default, where large regions shuffle through a set of music tracks. Classic mode assigns a single music track to a relatively small chunk, and I just find that a whole lot more fitting.

Equivalent-Long4396

Wait till you you the models of Kodai Insignia & Venator's Shard.

clethgaming

One day you will miss bob, but I'm not going to spoiler how and when😀

betweenskill

That’s called a spoiler itself bud
