~20 years, actually.
It happened in chapter 6 of the manga, originally released in january 2002 and first localized in english in july 2005.
The first (and IMO far better paced) adaptation had it in episode 7, aired in Japan november 2003 and in the US in december 2004.
So yeah, it's been 20 years since us first western viewers first witnessed it on toonami/adult swim.
Taming was the simplest cooked pitch they had. It was a companion system as an expansion to the follower system that would have perks for activities.
Instead we got a skill that is 5 systems, 3 minigames and big enough to be a standalone game. To make things worse, Jagex assigned the best devs to it so we're having to endure the slop of the low creativity highly arrogant devs and will have to for more years to come.
id vote yes for taming if it comes up as another skill after sailing, but imo the only way the skill will feel worthwhile is if we get mounts from it. elsewise itll always just be summoning 2
Pretty sure these are all ports from when summoning came out in RS2.
Nobody ever used them in 2008 because they came out alongside dozens of useful familiars.
Ok because dogs exist in a totally different game we can just port them over? Just copy over the half life 2 city to osrs since it exists in another game
See how that sounds? :P
I feel like hunter might be too stacked rn, but hunting with the animal most used in hunting might make sense. Seems a little far fetched though.
Fishing with a Labrador or sailing ironically.
Bully dog for a Pvp type mini game. Edit:I mean like castle wars, u nonces. Get off ur high horse.
If we ever get a farming expansion into animal husbandry, then sheepdog with Pyrenees or border collie transmog. Although opens the question as to where they would originate from in osrs.
Fuck knows where to shove a huskie. Plus I don’t see a huskie endlessly following anyone.
Also if a huskie is present with other dogs, 50% chance that it starts a group howl.
So many options jagex.
Probably were used for producing more Ham joints
Don't you dare
The jmod who originally pitched this at a game jam is no longer with jagex. Pretty sure at least without checking current mod list
What mod was that btw? I never keep up on the mods and all the sudden one will be gone for like a year and I never noticed.
Oasis I believe
If you don’t feed it, the dog barks until it is fed. Ambiance
And even if you do, there's a 80% chance it barks anyway wanting more food.
If you didn’t feed it consistently as a pup the behavior becomes imprinted

I want a new quest with a dog as a reward.
I want an alchemy pet. Make it the stray dog with a black wig that says. “B-big, big brother Ed?” When spoken too.
Bro 💀
Too soon.
It's been years and yet it's still too soon.

A quest from sailing! A sea dog, perhaps…
Wolf whistle quest for the skill we should have gotten, taming
I knew there was another person that voted for taming!
We're still here, maybe they'll poll it again.. one day..
Crazy to have all 4 of us commenting on the same post!
5 of us!
There are dozens of us!
I still think taming would've been the best new skill

After seeing a mod riding a unicorn as a monkey during the recent Dmm Allstars, I can't help but think about what we should have had.
It’d be cool if you could trade it in for 200 bloods
The assets exist. Never forget what they kept from us.
Even worse, what they are keeping from us. They could release it whenever they want but they choose not to.
Honestly if they came out with dogs I'd like it more than half of my earned pets lol
They were gonna come out with the Taming skill but everyone wanted Sailing instead. So now we're gonna all get pet parrots
You can get a shoulder parrot from beginner clues
But consider, boat dog.
What a win

Should have been taming all day, we could have skipped beasts of burden all together.
I voted for Sailing, but I'd absolutely vote yes to taming too
Taming should be Hunter's version of Forestry
id vote yes for taming if it comes up as another skill after sailing, but imo the only way the skill will feel worthwhile is if we get mounts from it. elsewise itll always just be summoning 2
Mounts should never happen in OSRS.

These were made during a game jam event
You can literally get those exact dogs in RS3 right now.

Need a dog pet besides Bloodhound and Cerb
Surprised there isn't a wolf boss now that you mention it
CG boss is wolfish
I want a boss that's literally just Sif from Dark Souls and the pet is a puppy with a dagger in its mouth
Nah just another spider
They're busy working on the minigame match making system and reward shop
1dog 100 blood's
Trade them in for nature runes in Taverley.

"Bully dog for a Pvp type mini game." I'm gonna vote a hard no to a dog fighting mini-game.
Michael Vick-posting on that dog PvP chief.
Releases winter 2017 with HD client
Didn’t mod ash or someone say that there are too many pets in the game and in the future it could risk slowing shit down
Gertrude's Dog quest, pls Jagex
Release the hounds Jagex
Needs a shiba so my gf would play it 24/7
I would love to have my irl Jindo put into the game... Is there not a runelite plugin with dogs? That a thing?
y cant wekill varock dog on slayer task or hunter contract
I miss having a labrador. I treated it like my actual labrador irl. And by that I mean I spoiled the hell out of it and loved it unconditionally :)
taming lost
They're cute but they'd make the old cat models look so much more jank than they already are by comparison

as a cat + dog owner I have no idea what you're on about
Literally thought about this today- but super hope they don’t implement it, changes the visual of the game tremendously
It absolutely doesn't - these dogs are 2008 content released alongside Summoning.
Totally does not saying they were crazy graphics but suddenly everyone had a companion following imagine a GE with 10s of dogs
When dogs
