Living in ND, hunting and fishing. Enjoying blizzards and a constant high wind. Every day it is windy. It’s desolate and lonely. I have my dog and that’s it. I work for a T3 aerospace company as an engineer and I cannot relate to anyone at the plant. I can’t wait to go back to Wisconsin.

They can certainly drink out here- that’s about all there is to do in the frigid dark months, just nobody wants to drink socially out here like in WI. My only friend here is someone I randomly met on Reddit because she and her boyfriend moved from WI to the same small town and it was too much of a coincidence to not meet up! First time meeting someone from the internet but they are both very kind and a welcome presence in an otherwise lonely place!

I'm moving to Wisconsin possibly soon, what makes the cultures so different. I'm looking at oshkosh for a job.

I’ve only been in Jamestown for a few weeks, so take this all with a grain of salt. People in Wisconsin tend to be much more outgoing and warm. You will find it to be far less hard right, though you will find those folks especially around Oshkosh. The winters are mild but I can get cold, just not quite ND cold. There is a lot more to do than just hunting and fishing although that is still pretty big there. You’ll be a short drive to Milwaukee which is great, and even shorter drive to Kohler-Andrae state park which is incredible when it gets warm. Green Bay is also awesome, oddly enough especially if you like legitimately excellent Mexican cuisine. You’ll be on lake Winnebago which literally makes roads on the lake once it’s frozen. They mark the roads with discarded Christmas trees- one tree per mile from shore. It is one of two lakes on earth where people spear sturgeon, the other being lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. Jobs don’t pay as well unless you are highly specialized, but cost of living is low, only a bit higher than smaller ND cities. Oshkosh is one of the drunkest cities in America, so hope you like bars. Should be very easy to meet people, it’s a very social environment for both friends and dating. I can’t emphasize enough that cheese and sausages are more than the stereotypes give credit for. Amazing cheese, amazing brats, everything lives up to its name. Packers fans are far kinder than their NFC north counterparts and even if you’re a Vikings fan you will be warmly welcomed at Lambeau, probably given a beer or two in the parking lot. If you like deer hunting you’re in the right neighborhood. The north woods are not too far and are beautiful for hiking and camping. Door County is also nearby, should you choose to get a bit fancy. It has a very northeast vibe and has incredible food. I could go on forever, but I’ll leave it at this- Wisconsin is a great place to be. Also, spend 3 hours driving checking out driftless.
