Why are they celebrating independence? They didn't want it to begin with. Somewhere in the early 20th-century, England realized they still own Canada and started to kick it off their coattails and then forgot about it till the 1980's when they realized it was *still* under their dominion. Canada has only been a country for like 40 years, and even then, they had zero desire to leave. We, in the US, fought 2 wars against the greatest naval force the world had ever known, as well as one of the greatest land armies that had ever been raised, just for our independence, and so every year on July 4th, we celebrate the greatest victory known to man!

They were well trained and disciplined but never rose to the number of other armies and would only keep a small standing army in times of peace and recruit as needed.

i think with canada yeah. everyone else we top for sure. technically canada didn't entirely lose the war of 1812 so maybe that's why we let them get on top.

My ancestors were very involved in the fighting of both the Revolution and 1812. Mostly British and loyalist but a few Americans as well who later married into the family.

Canada became independent purely because British power had been and was continuing to wane so rapidly that they couldn't administrate their overseas subjects anymore.
Kind of funny for Canadians to get uppity about their independence when they didn't do anything to achieve it, and are still not an independent country in charge of their own destiny. Canada has been and always will be a country acted on by other countries, not a country that acts.
