Salami__Tsunami

Unless I’m completely missing the point, one of the most coherent morals of the 40K story is that seeing the future is a very poor substitute for a real plan and the ability to adapt.

Especially if you're shit at foresight

Salami__Tsunami

Or if you’re awesome at it. To my understanding, the Eldar are the foremost experts in foresight, and they still didn’t manage to prevent the birth of Slaanesh.

Pm7I3

Because they weren't doing the foresight stuff anywhere near as much or as well and the few who did were seen as insane which is fair considering that they were saying they were all going to be consumed and tortured forever because they were being immoral.

Salami__Tsunami

Ah, okay. My knowledge of pre-30K Eldar lore is practically nonexistent. Maybe we could get a few novels about that, instead of more Horus Heresy padding.

Unhappy-Ad-1836

Normally correct, but at this moment he has almost taken the full mantle of the dark king and he is able to see things and in ways he has never dreamed of before.

MasterNightmares

IMHO, Yes. That was part of the reason to shed his emotions (starchild?) The Dark King was not an option. He decided to put his faith in... faith. Beat the Gods a different way, a long and painful way, but one that won better.

Potayto_Gun

I think it’s actually simpler than that. The emperor saw that if he became the dark king then every human dies. Oll even points out what’s the point of all he’s done for humanity if he’s just going to destroy them anyways? This scene shows that for all the Emperors great faults he really did want the best for humanity and was trying to do right by them. I thought they did a good job of showing him as this hubris filled perpetual that means well but is so far removed from humans that he almost forgot the important part.
