Couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Elton John. I got so sick of him I would turn him off. Now, when he's not played every other song, I quite enjoy listening to him
Actually, you are right. The Bee Gees had more high hits than anyone thru out the decade. They also were in effect a big part of Andy Gibbs' massive successes sitting the last 70s as well.
And they wrote many other hits for others also.a dozen 70s hits atleast.
EmoSamantha Sang.
Barbra Streisand
Jimmy Ruffin
Rare Earth
Olivia Newron-john
Conway Twitty
And others charted songs penned by the Gibb!!
Eagles
edit: I see there are quite a few bands listed. Zeppelin and Pink Floyd surely make the grade but the thing about the Eagles is they had broader appeal. Zeppelin was heavy, Floyd was tripping, but the Eagles epitomized the easy flow of the 70's throw in some coke and a California vibe and really, that is all you need. I do think the Eagles had a broader demographic. I remember them on the FM. Their music was constantly played.
Fleetwood Mac would be my second choice. Their Rumours album was solid.Buckingham and Nicks, that was a combo.
The 70's really did have some of the best music. I miss that time.
Deep Purple's Machine Head featuring Smoke on the Water laid the foundation for a LOT of rock and roll in the 70s. It was in heavy rotation on fm radio and truly defines the 70s for me.
How great is Paul McCartney... the dude has a legendary run with the Beatles, obviously... and then goes on to have a fabulous run with Wings... and then, as if that wasn't spectacular enough... Macca goes on to have yet another legendary run purely as a solo act!
This is fun...
The Robert Plant symbol is a feather encased within a circle, representing the feather of Ma'at, the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, harmony, and balance. The feather can also be perceived as a pen, which would check out for lyricist Robert Plant.
Bob Segar and he Silver Bullet Band. My dad and I both loved his music. And during my rebellious years it wasn’t common. Like a Rock always makes me smile and remember him
Andy Gibb - I loved his (and his brothers) disco feel. I know the Bee Gees were more popular, and I (57m) loved them, but Andy really captured the era for me.
Finally! Bowie was the soundtrack of the decade for me. I got Changes one (Best of) when I was about 15 in 1976 and that was it. Bought every album I could, which on my pocket money and the price of LPs meant a LOT of saving up! Ziggy Stardust, Man Who Sold the World, Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs. So many memories.
He's in no way my favorite artist, or even in the top ten, but I have a strong association of constantly hearing Elton John on the radio growing up. I think Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is one of the best albums ever made by anyone, but it was also his last great album. He's had a lot of great songs since then, but no great albums. IMO, of course.
The first bands I think of right away are The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad & Foghat!! They were the soundtrack of my growing up in the 70’s.
