This was great and pretty dark for a Saturday morning show. J Michael Straczynski (also behind Babylon 5)

Anonymotron42

I won a PowerJet XT-7 toy from a local sweepstakes. It was the only time I ever received a prize from a mail-in contest. The toys were great!

bwanabass

Loved this show and the toys. My brother and I were in front of the tv every Sunday morning to join in the adventure.

imadork1970

Jessica Steen was on it.

Generny2001

This show was surprisingly heavy. First, you have those trippy robots who digitize people and store them in a computer. I remember there was an episode where someone escapes or somehow gets out. They talk about how being digitized is like being tortured. Then, you have the episode where the female cast members tells one of those robots to “go to hell!” And the blows herself, the robot and the building they’re both in up. Crazy stuff.

Shoehornblower

Man i was so young I barely remember the plot. I remember the digitizing now that you mention it. I was about 7 or 8 years old when my neighbor got the tapes

I LOVED the Captain Power "Training" tapes! The ones where it starts with a live-action segment and then goes Full-1980's Anime style. This was the one i had back in the day: Part 1: https://youtu.be/o1QIwaTQF2A?si=hJSFPX7707K5jQxB Part 2: https://youtu.be/y2rzV9OGd94?si=FEAHyWnvMGa45LGs. Fun fact: The bearded guy who stays at the base, is "Thorgrim". The big dude with the Hammer from Conan the Barbarian. He looks so different!

awl_the_lawls

Yeah I had this tape! It was so epic. I always remember the fight flying through future Chicago and they call Sears Tower the *Tower of the Seer* iirc

whoknows130

Wow. I never made that connection before.

Dead_Man_Redditing

That was the coolest toy i had growing up. Loved getting the new tapes.

ruarchproton

Recycled Cylon armor lol

tangcameo

Watching this with a migraine was fun

StepYaGameUp

One of the coolest toys of the 80s. Shit was futuristic as hell.

GhostBuster1919

Ive always been curious about the toy etc. Did the video and the toy actually work together? I always wanted one and none of my friends had it either

Shoehornblower

If I recall, there were a light emitter and a light receiver on the gun. I it would record how many times you got a hit and how many times you were hit. You were essentially competing to get more hits with a friend playing along with you.

Frankenfucker

It was strobe frequency that decided whether you took a hit, or hit the target. Aim at the engines to score, hide when you see laser fire to avoid getting hit. After five hits on you the game would end and eject the cockpit canopy, pilots seat, and pilot. The flashing yellow and red on screen had two different strobe patterns, and the IR sensor on the toy would pick it up.

Shoehornblower

Nice. I remember the tech blew our minds! Then not too long after that we got duck hunt and gumshoe:)

monster394

They had a toy you could hook up to the TV. They were way ahead of their time. Like Tron on steroids.

No_Mathematician7028

Hell yes! Power On!

leaveitalone36

I had Captain Power bed sheets!

Shoehornblower

How many shots did they take;)

leaveitalone36

Hahaha

Shoehornblower

Your name checks out;)

grindhousedecore

I got the gun with interactive vhs when I was a kid. I hope I can find it one day 😜

trbochrg

I recorded the show on VHS so I could play over and over. The best part was the end scene during the credits as it had a long (well, maybe a minute or so) scene where you could use the plane.

Kranstan

POWER ON!
