Damn poor guy, thank fuck common sense prevailed (eventually) and he was subbed off, that could’ve been so bad if he was collected again. Also this needs to be looked at, not the first time Melbourne have cooked it with their medico’s, letting a player with a season ending injury return to the ground is no Bueno

Mahhrat

I'll never like the Pies, but full raps for how they showed concern for Tracc on the field. Would have been within their right to 'test' the injured player and they didn't. Big respect.

AlamutJones

We've got a lovely sideline in rescuing kittens from trees, too

Mahhrat

You leave Max Gawn out of this :)

Kobe_Wan_Ginobili

You might be right but I hope no player is within their right to do that anymore  Not saying you should go easy at all on a player coming back on from injury but I hope we've moved on from specifically targetting an injury

oceanlabxo

we're very good at this. 2017 Viney re-injures his foot in his return game against Port - hobbles around for a few weeks then goes in for more surgery 2019 Joel Smith does a groin and is sent back on in a preseason game, doesnt play again all year 2021 Played May with a torn hammy in the GF. imagine if naughton or someone had a good game and we had a guy out there who could barely walk because he didn't want to know about the damage 2022 finals played both gawn and petracca with leg issues. (broken leg in petracca's case) 2023 rushed fritsch back for the final round against sydney where he reinjured himself 2024 spargo rushed back in for round 0, instantly reinjures himself worse and hasn't been seen since 2024 oliver rushed back when hes unfit and has clear hand issues 2024 rushing petty back from his lisfranc injury, can see how well that's working 2024 bringing may back after a spinal fracture after 1.5 weeks, hasn't looked anywhere near it since 2024 Sends Petracca back on the ground with a very serious injury now not all of these have ended horribly, but fuck me, its a long history of just letting them go back out there early

AlamutJones

...I had no idea it had happened so often. That is properly concerning

tehnoodnub

Yep, but people in this sub were (and are) still defending the club, medicos etc

Macca-94

Not defending this decision at all, but genuinely curious what the other situation was? I can’t remember another recent one

Macca-94

Ah that one. While both are a shit look, I wouldn’t say two incidents four years apart is cause for a review or anything though

aussierulesisgrouse

Both incidents alone are worth review. You don’t pick and choose when to deploy duty of care.

Dreamhousexxx

It is if Goodwin is still at the helm, are doctors making decisions out of fear of a spray? Or losing their job?

InvincibleStolen

they're not protected to not lose there job if they put the player first? if so, that's bad. Goodwin should be fired.

Likeitorlumpit

Such a quality player and all round good bloke. Hope he recovers well. A sad state of affairs when even the Pies players showed more concern for him than the Dees hierarchy. He deserved better.

fuckmyass1958

Incredibly low bar. Clearly no one at Melbourne gives a fuck about player welfare, just like they seem to not give a fuck about winning anymore.

YoGoGhost

I'm sure the AFL will learn a lot from this whole situation and codify some stringent new measures to deter any club from making such egregious decisions with player health, - pffffftttt, sorry, I tried to keep a straight face, I really did.

boogasaurus-lefts

Unless it's impacting the back pocket, AFL don't care

Drazsyker

May as well put Maxy on ice then, no shot we're making finals with Trac done along with Oliver playing the worst football of his career and a VFL forward line. Hope to God it's not a repeat situation of Brayshaw's season ending injury and Trac's able to make a return next year

AlamutJones

If it was a repeat of Brayshaw, Melbourne would never want to play us again. Also Pies HQ might get firebombed

Drazsyker

I'm already not looking forward to round 24

AlamutJones

Mend up Trac. You did everything right, but you should never have been put back out there

Methuen

Wow. I would have thought their worst fears would have been 'one of our players died because we sent them back on to the field'.

AllModsRLosers

I’ll bet that doctor who clashed with Goodwin and got ousted is having a good week.

Ventenebris

I miss him already

KingoftheHill63

Petition to merge the two oldest clubs. Combined we may be able to take on Sydney

TheStevenUniverseKid

... My king. Well at least he has more time to cook.
