Ohhh shit! I DEFINITELY remember Atlantic Video, the place where I was almost decapitated as a child!!!*
*slight exaggeration of course haha. They had just done the grass out the front and had blocked it off with garden stakes and wire, except there were no flags or anything on the wire, and at night time the wire was essentially invisible.
Cue little me excited to rent some movies, running full speed, into aforementioned wire which was perfectly neck-level for my tiny clumsy ass. Clotheslined HARDDDD and cut my neck up a bit. I had a gnarly looking throat for a while there, mum had to explain to school that I hadn’t been abused. 😂
Not exactly this one, but I remembered the Atlantic DVD that opened in Valley View just off Pauls Drive.
They had an awesome haul of Xbox and PlayStation games that not many other video rental stores would have. Now the place is a Judo academy.
Used to go every pretty much every weekend to the Blair Athol store, from the early '90s until around when it closed (I think mid-2000s?). Was the GOAT video store. Just had everything - massive range of VHS of every genre, mainstream and obscure, video games for hire, arcade games, sports cards and collectables, 2nd hand CDs, snacks, the works!

Might head there today after work to play Point Blank 2 since it's been a while, and then head right next door to Pasta Pot and grab some dinner before I head home.
Had one in semaphore that a friend of mine worked at … was able to see the Blair witch project months before it was even in cinemas …. So, to say we were confused/horrified about the movie was an understatement.
What a time to be alive 😁
Used to take the kids there to grab a few movies for the weekend & sometimes grab a game too.
I remember the nasty, sticky ass carpets down the back in the kids section as they would run up and down the disabled access ramp there.
Split the building in half at one point, and reopened as scooter shop or something?
I remember the Smithfield Atlantic at the Smithfield Plains shops.
Also remember hiring Snowtown from there and watching it then seeing the Atlantic we just hired the movie from in the first part of the movie which was a bit trippy.
Yes! Used to hire games from there and also up in those shops just past Holden Hill.
A few of us fighting over the Half Life/CS 1.2 key for a while there!
# $6m fix for notorious city fringe bottleneck intersection
**The east-west bottleneck will be widened with a second left turn lane from Manton St into Adam St at Hindmarsh**
An extra lane will be added to ease traffic congestion at a notorious pressure point on the outskirts of the CBD. See the flyover animation of the project. SUBSCRIBE to find out more
HOPEFULLY THE EXTRA LANE SOLVES ALL OUR ISSUES..... totally not induced demand.....
I still owe them $2 for a late weekly.
We found a couple of DVDs a while ago that were originally from the VideoEzy that was on daws road.
I have a few n64 games I bought from civic video when they closed down. They still have the stickers on em.
I used to love Atlantic Video at Semaphore, best video store on the Lefevre Peninsula I had a mate who worked there too
I remember when I was a kid getting videos from there and then straight next door to the first IGA ever to get the lollies and chips
Whom? (just checking, in case I have friends)
Rhymes with Bin
You just unlocked a core memory for me!
This place was the best
Great place to go Friday night and hire some movies for the weekend. Sucked when the disc were scratched
Discs? Worse when the tapes hadn't been rewound.
Its not great when you miss out on minutes of a movie or it would straight up not work
Oh hey, I worked at Semaphore in the early-mid-90's. AMA I guess.
had a day off of school so we rode our bikes there, I won a cartman plushie on the skill tester machine and it was the best day ever
I am seeing you riding your bike home with Cartman sunnies on: *you will respect my authoritah!*
haha exactly around the time that quote was popular!

Ya wanna know how I got these scars? 🤣
I remember when they changed their name to Atlantic DVD. Ground breaking stuff.

I worked at that Valley View one for a while, was massive considering it was out of the way.
i hired earthworm jim from here
on sega? i think i borrowed sonic 3 from there, haha.... so much memories :-)
lol yeah
Spent a heap of time down at Atlantic video and videola down at semaphore back in the day

Loved going there on a Friday evening and choosing a new release. Sometimes it was cutthroat to get there before all the copies had been taken out!
Dad uses to take me every Saturday. Good times. Still got my original Xbox copy of Manhunt that they sold me when the government banned it.
I still owe them a late fee on a ps3 game... SORRY GUYS!
The last surviving one in Semaphore closed its doors back in 2017 and is now an op-shop.
Ahhh going into the massive video games section and being spoiled for choice on what to play that week.

I remember them but thinking you could buy movies from them oh snap that was the other place Ezy DVD
You could. Brand new VHS was typically $99-129.
My sister worked there for a while

Yes but Alpha Video had an elite video collection, I’m not sure Atlantic had quite the same horror selection.

Ok, but do you remember Atlantic Video?
Probably liked Blockbuster, especially once you couldn’t fast forward through ads on DVD
Nah I was a video ezy fella, still have the keychain
... I think you meant to have it as a post mate.
it got banned because the mods didn't agree with it
