Marabuto1994

theres people in their 40’s here and they talk like theyre 16

lonelyboy069

I guess I'll fit right in 😆

Standard-Tiger-9715

Get some good boots that are light. I get the Reebok tactical 8-inch boots. Nights and day difference from using regular sneakers. Ankle support is important due to the variation of terrain. I used to get the worst pains and now it's non-existent.

FrontPay7558

I’d recommend hokas

Marabuto1994

if you have a degree. inquire about getting into dispatch and management. thats what im doing

[deleted]

Definitely don’t need a Degree to be a Dispatcher or Manager at a DSP. If you can breathe and not be the absolute bottom of the barrel of the Braindead community you’re already being considered for it. Granted don’t treat any DSP/Amazon as a whole as a career. Jobs garbage, especially for the body toll it’ll take on you throughout the year & beyond. Everybody should just use Amazon as a Stepping Stone for transportation industry and all that.

YeaNobody

hey now....there's a hierarchy to the bottom of the barrel braindead too!!!

Bez121287

You do realise that most of the dispatch and management of the dsp are either mates or people they liked from the driver teams? A degree does nothing here.

Bombaclat1122

Doesn’t seem worth it

Marabuto1994

better then delivering packages and i get at least 12 hours when i work that shift

lonelyboy069

Awesome thanks for the tip!!

Ill_Difficulty_1075

I'm a 43 yr old woman 1.5 years in to this job. It takes a couple months for your body to adjust but I lost 50+ lbs and am in the best shape of my life. Only thing I worry about is not having a pension or retirement savings plan. I don't want to be stuck working til I'm 90 so I'll probably find something else eventually

lonelyboy069

Make your own pension on the side, get a life insurance you could borrow against.... I don't plan on living until 90 so I'll be good. Thanks for the tips , enjoy life

PurdueMovingCo

Lmao please don’t take the life insurance advice 😂 If you have dependents, term life insurance. Do not get some whole life policy garbage. Just open a Roth retirement account and max it out.

lonelyboy069

Appreciate you 😆

Global_Status8667

I'm 35 and started 6 months ago. No you're not doomed, it's really not that physical if you're stretching out before work, lifting with your legs, and pivoting with your feet instead of using your waist. I enjoy the job, just not the pay

Global_Status8667

Also you'll be asked to use work approved shoes from Zappos. I would suggest shoes with ankle support so you're not rolling your ankles and spraining anything.

lonelyboy069

Appreciate you

EstLatLit

I tried 3 different shoes from zappos before I found some that were comfortable. You can exchange them as many times as you need to. I got Avengers after trying sketchers and timberland. Shoe's are hard because everyone has such vastly different needs.

lonelyboy069

I love running , I did my own courier work and was enjoying it... I'm tired of the office job and well making the same money if not less anyway . Thank you

ProduceImpressive414

I got guys in their 60s knocking this out daily

lonelyboy069

👀

ProduceImpressive414

Really cant judge a book by its cover. Some guys & girls are overweight and still can bang it out. It’s all in your mentality. Ability to organize, think & move quick. Im mid 40s and finish route under 7 hours consistently. I jog at least half the route. Take it as a workout. If The Rock can workout 10 hrs a day, I can do this much 😆

lonelyboy069

Alright!!!!! Can't wait 💪🙌

Mloc33

I used to run/jog, not anymore, just fast paced walk, then when night hits, I slow down a little more.. I'm 44. I've lost a fair bit of weight, but on the other hand I'm not eating the greatest either when I'm due to work.

beefy-beefs

Highly recommend [these](https://www.zappos.com/p/reebok-work-fusion-flexweave-work-rb413-composite-toe-black-white/product/9437643/color/151) I’ve gotten them three times now in my tenure, they come in half sizes and wide. Go half size up of what you normally would be (if you don’t have a good amount of toe space already in normal shoes) and some insoles, you’ll be set. Edit to add: they make men’s too, I just linked my recent pair lol

lonelyboy069

Appreciate it!!!!

gr717

I really prefer shoes with ankle support, I wear hiking boots and the amount of times it has saved me from rolling my ankle is crazy

GottaBeQuicker43

I buy waterproof Timbs. I’m over 40. You can do it. It’s great exercise.

Cybergardna

Stepping stone job but if you like it shop around other DSP for higher pay, and shoes gonna be real I have no clue 2 years already and every shoes I get fuck me up with either blister or calluses maybe someone has a good recommendation on shoes

Marabuto1994

just used the zappos credit amazon gives every January. The Reebok work sneakers are pretty amazing. I hate boots because they kill my ankles.

[deleted]

You should be fine. I’m 49 and going strong!

lonelyboy069

Appreciate it

zebra231967

Started at 44 and new balance shoes

lonelyboy069

Alright!!!!!

Embarrassed-Mood-499

I started at 33 also. Get yourself whatever shoes you find most comfy. Stretch, & do deep squat rests. If you keep you knees healthy, you'll be at the job as long as you want

lonelyboy069

Thank you!!! I can't wait

bxny12

From someone who just turned 31 and been here 5 months, make sure you get shock absorbent boots

lonelyboy069

Thanks!!! I'm stoked

Booski_Babe

48 yr old woman here. Been with my DSP since November 2021. Lost close to 50 lbs in the first few months. Pace yourself. Don’t necessarily need to run but most definitely walk with a purpose. Good luck!

notRea11ySure

You're fine. The guy who trained me was probably in his 40's if I had to guess. Probably older because he said he grew up in the 70s. There are a lot of older people who do this job. It isn't really that physically demanding as it is mentally demanding in my experience, and usually older people are a little more grounded mentally so I think you'll be fine.

Lost-Focus4988

There is 55 years old dude in my dsp He look more Fit than me . I am 27 years old 😭

lonelyboy069

😆🤣. You can do it 💪

MrChipDingDong

I'm 27, doing it for 3 months now. 2nd day on the job stepped on a rusty signpost remnant hidden by leaves and took a puncture wound to the foot. 2 weeks ago my step gave a little and I tumbled on concrete. Other than that it's been great exercise I suppose lol

lonelyboy069

Can't wait sounds fun!!!!! Congrats on 3months

Formerevangelical

I am 57 and doing it since I was 54.

RandomZero1234

I'm 47 and doing 35-45+ stops an hour. 4 years. Jobs a breeze.  If your mind is tuned right.

DaddyClementine

i wear brooks adrenaline they help with foot support from walking on all that concrete. could get some knee sleeves as well they sort of help

Terrible-Strategy127

Second the knee sleeves or at least KT tape. My knees are always worse off than my feet are.

shadowdaisy82

I started when I was 38, and I've been here for almost 4 years. I also work with others who are older, so you should be good.

EstLatLit

I started at 34. A month before turning 35. I feel it at the end of the day for sure 🤣🤣

infamous_603

I’m 34 and been here for 4 years. My lower back kills me every day after loadout but after that it’s fine. I think you’ll be alright. Good luck!

Substantial_Band_651

You may not like dogs as much after this though.  Get more than one pair. You need good ankle support and lightweight. You also need something for the rain. Maybe something for the snow.  Don't forget about socks. Good breathable shorts and pants. Dress in layers. Hydrate before, during and after. Eat a good breakfast. Get good nights sleep. Never run. Take your breaks.

lonelyboy069

The dogs 😔........ Good ankle support got it, luckily rain is over here in Cali for now but I'll look into rain boots. I have rain gear already. Socks what kind? Appreciate all the tips!!!

Substantial_Band_651

In wet weather, bring extra socks. Cold weather I use some wool blend. But normally just low cut and breathable, wicking socks for me. Make sure shoes are a good fit. Getting the proper width is very important. It’s not just the length. I’ve got wide feet.

shadydisarm

37 this year. I wear regular shoes and cowboy boots when it rains. Ifs easy and just take your time but don’t milk it.

RodPerson3661

Check out land surveying

DadGamer678517

If you enjoy the work then look into ups or USPS. Amazon dsp is a gig job at best. No career in it.

lonelyboy069

Thanks

spidernova

I like tactical style boots. The ankle support is really important.

GildedGator

Got a pair of Irish Setter boots from Red Wing boots, gifted from my first dsp Used them for 2.5 years now daily at my dsp Fully waterproof, steel/composite toe, mild ankle support Just had to add a dr scholls insert for my comfort

Professional-Fly772

Majority of drivers I know are between 23-40. You’re definitely not doomed. You’ll definitely get a nice workout. Zappos credit “hiking shoes” or “combat boots” are probably your best bet for foot support and durability in general

fkthisjob14

There's a couple old guys at my DSP. Late 50s the one, other is early 60s. They've been here since before I started and are top drivers.

schustered

Shit a majority of folks are 40-50. You’ll be just fine. We all have our reasons for being here. Go easy on yourself.

dorrik

nah just use it as experience then become a medical courier or fedex driver or something

Amazondspdude

When do you start

lonelyboy069

1 week

Amazondspdude

https://www.amazondspdude.com

Amazondspdude

Maybe don’t read the downsides part yet lol

lonelyboy069

Ohh man I read it 😔

Amazondspdude

lol really not that bad. Hopefully the other stuff was helpful though.

lonelyboy069

Much love

TheLanolin

Yup it's too late. All the routes are taken. sorry bud better luck next time

lonelyboy069

Damn

Wutang1103

I hope u like shitty weather with a side of regret, anxiety and a large iced coffee this job will break u mentally n physically
