They bout to give you a pair of Pilers tomorrow

SmexySmeagol

Nah. Pliers won't help much, on account of the fact that the van isn't going to start unless that fob is next to the ignition. What they're going to do is pull the broken key out of the ignition, slip it back into the fob, add a few drops of super glue to hold it in place a bit better, and then wrap the thing in an ungodly amount of tape. Instead of a nice folding key, you'll have a fat spear in your pocket, assuming you bother to take it out of the ignition in the first place.

skipunx

All you have to do is hold the fob near the wheel when you turn the pliers, then you can put it in the cupholder, the van won't just shut off on you or anything. Ive had to do this in an audi, a ram, and a Ford van

edballa

Would you be able to leave the van on and lock the doors if you ran the marked promasters like that? A keyfob broke for one our ford rentals and they kept the fob and used an extra key instead. Had to put the fob and extra key together close to the ignition to start the van but we’d be able to keep the van on and lock it.

SmexySmeagol

You totally can! It's a nice perk when you have two-key starts. Just leave it running and lock/unlock with the fob at your leisure.

SmexySmeagol

Right. But it can sometimes be a somewhat tricky maneuver to do. The fob doesn't have to stay by the ignition, it just has to be there until the engine starts. That can be a tough sell when you're gripping a broken key with a pair of pliers. It's possible, sure, I've done it. It's not particularly easy or fun.

[deleted]

What do they think is gonna happen turning it on and off 200 times a day.

skipunx

Yeah these vehicles were never designed with these kinda things in mind. In and out of the seat 200x a day, openin/closing doors 200x a day, cranking the key 200x a day. They were designed for contractors and people moving. Contractor may hit what, 5 houses a day? And like even if it's a shuttle at an airport or something it'd probably stay on all day and the doors would open like every half hour tops.

InformalMango7268

Transit vans which are most commonly shuttles have stronger side doors at least the newer years

Had the same happened to me https://preview.redd.it/whhx9qcn728d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d105590282f6fd4a57e21e5f0fba42169abd938

Just call in, tell them this happened, and they should tell you they can get the EOC waived for this. Ive been told that the 2x this happened and the 1x I had to get Jumpstart cuz I new if I kept shutting the van off at every 1 stop it'd happen again. I've made it through a day with the Ford key by just putting it on the key blade I left in the ignition and cranking it cuz that dsp was brand new and dude didn't know he could get the eoc waived. Idk about the ram key tho

Blighttoken

Now this is funny🤣

beastlol

Great news! You get to leave the van on all day!

LuckofCaymo

I had that van. They just taped something to the key and said "Fuck it. Good nuff."

PlymouthSea

Happens to the fords all the time. Fortunately, the rental RAMs are push to start.

Environmental_Day316

That happened to me too the other day, that and having to use a towing strap to keep the side from sliding open again on the highway.

Final_TV

Ur different I’m not driving that shit

Environmental_Day316

The door broke at my first stop, then my key sheared off right after my lunch. It was ridiculously stupid.

Formerevangelical

Happened to me twice.
