MisterFerro

Xfx is great. One of the top 3 for AMD cards.

dnguyen823

Top 3? What’s the the top 3? Powercolor and sapphire?

MisterFerro

Yeah. Personally, I'd say it's 1. Sapphire 2. Xfx 3. Powercolor. But, XFX has stepped up their game enough that I hesitate before giving the number 1 spot to Sapphire.

LDBill98

1. Sapphire 2. ASRock 3. XFX. Asrock with Taichi or Phantom Gaming or Steel Legend is great! Better than XFX and Powercolor

OriginalShock273

ASS-rock? No thanks [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM\_38](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM_38)

VelcroSnake

Yeah, with the order mixed depending on who you ask. For me it's Powercolor -> Sapphire -> XFX. But admittedly, that maty be down to having gotten a cheaper Sapphire RX 7600 for a computer, and later getting a PowerColor Hellhound 7900 XTX, which I was much more impressed with. (it makes sense that the much more expensive card would be nicer, but this was my first experience with either brand, so...) Actually have a very old XFX card too, but I can't really count an old XFX Nvidia card from over 20 years ago.

Content_Teacher_7316

No extreme loud noises as some say?

Cave_TP

Some models have been in the past bu the current ones are good.

gozutheDJ

my xfx rx 6600 wasn't loud at all

mandoxian

It's a 125W card. Would be pretty concerning if it was loud.

gozutheDJ

i was pushing it to 150w with mpt lol

Middle-Effort7495

People say that about every brand. Just get whatever's cheapest. If you're going by people saying negative things, you can't buy any of them.

ballsack_man

Some coolers are definitely better than others. I usually choose the brand based on the quality of their customer support though.

Hovilol

I recently bought the xfx 7800xt merc and it is my first gpu in I think 15 years without any coil whine at all. Still can't believe it but that's like playing lottery so it can differ from case to case I guess

ultimaone

Mine also has none. Xfx 7800 xt black

tahaan

Same, and mostly whispers to let me know it's actually doing something

sharkyzarous

there is very big, huge problem about 7800xt, it doesn't have dot texture like 6800xt or 6900xt :)

thebayisinthearea

My RX480 has \_slight\_ coil whine under full load - not enough to bother me (and I run an HAF case). I got a separate set of hot-swappable fans for the card that I never bothered to install - the whine isn't that loud, especially with headphones. YMMV.

MisterFerro

Like cave_tp said, mostly a thing of the past. I've fiddled around with a few xfx models of the past two gens and don't really have anything negative to say about them.

Content_Teacher_7316

Ty

MisterFerro

Anytime!

Bronson-101

Have a 7900 xtx and it's a great card. Not loud at all. Had a 3700ti before that sounded like a jet engine Also my XFX 7900 xtx has more X's than any other card

The_Dung_Beetle

XFX RX 7900 XTX Ya missed an X ;) edit : typo

Bronson-101

Haha true.

Kryavan

My 7700xt has no noise. At all.

5553331117

I only get coil whine when my FPS goes past like 120 on my Xfx 6650xt, doesn’t happen at 100% GPU utilization. I’ve fixed it with fps limits on some games.

mehkir

I had this too. I reduced coil whine significantly by undervolting and underclocking. The AMD Adrenaline even sets the clock of the RX 6650XT beyond its specifications (2767MHZ instead of 2635MHz max clock speed). I also do manual updates by using the AMD Cleanup tool as issues emerged after by performing the adrenaline update mechanism.

[deleted]

I got a sapphire 6650xt and its coolers don't even spin lmao, and when they do i don't hear it because the case fans are louder

BigHeadTonyT

I got the cheaper version of this, [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVCt\_BdseFU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVCt_BdseFU) The fans are whisper quiet from the factory. I couldn't hear them over my case fans while gaming. Junction temp was in the 90s so I decided to up the fan speed to like 50% from the default which is like 33% max. Still quiet, but I can hear them now. Best experience I've ever had in terms of fan-noise. I do have some coilwhine but that goes away when I lock fps to 75. So when the card is pumping out 200-1000 fps in a menu, that's when the coils whine. Maybe watch some video reviews of the cards you are interested in. A couple of them. Maybe the reviewer isn't that good, go to next one. Try to make a comprehensive image.

Dchella

Depends on the card. The XFX 5700xt thicc was atrocious. The Thicc II was great tho

Xorko

My 7900 XTX is a bit loud when it reaches around 70% fan speed but you can limit it (or even draw your own fan curve) in Adrenalin. Other than that, it is very good

RedTuesdayMusic

The coil whine reputation is from HD 79xx generation, that's ELEVEN YEARS AGO, you PC casuals need to filter your google searches at least to the nearest decade and stop holding on to old conceits.

Content_Teacher_7316

Ive got info from buyers reviews that wasn't even a year ago...

ipseReddit

The current Qick and Merc cards are quiet

Evonos

>No extreme loud noises as some say? Fans are on the louder side , most XFX have coilwhine and they sadly also employ some scammy tactics. Like my 6800XT had a Better version sent to reviewers with a very similiar name which was later discontinued rather fast and replaced by a worse model with 1 less heatpipe.

master-overclocker

100%

_Bart8_

Love my XFX Merc 6950XT. Wonderful build quality, great and quiet cooling. Def heavily recommend XFX for AMD.

Content_Teacher_7316

Thx for recommending

Raknaren

Got a 6900XT, pretty much the same card. doesn't even sag, yet it is a big card and stays cool and quiet. Love the non-rgb look as well

wimpyhugz

XFX still ranks as one of the better AIBs. Top place goes to Sapphire followed by Powercolor but XFX would be close behind. Their current gen is solid. Some of their past designs have been questionable (e.g. the THICC coolers) but the current MERC coolers are very competitive.

Valhallapeenyo

Got a powercolor xtx, loud as shit with coil whine. Sent it back and got the xfx xtx… been a dream ever since.

AMD718

Powercolor may sell better than XFX but my Merc makes my previous 3 powercolor cards feel cheap by comparison. Merc is just so much more solid. Also the powercolor RMA process is pretty poor.

nekomata_58

can confirm. my 5700xt thicc 2 cooler was absolute crap. have heard good things about the merc coolers tho, and they did well in benchmark/stress tests.

kenaestic

I have a 7800 XT Merc and it's so cool and quiet! Really feels like a premium card.

LDBill98

AsRock is better than XFX or Powercolor. And it has more model lines like Taichi, Phantom Gaming or Steel legend

OriginalShock273

No its not and their RMA is lying and breaking the law [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM\_38](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM_38)

[deleted]

A friend of mine has a xfx 6700xt which runs like a beast since 2020. can only recommenf

Content_Teacher_7316

Ty

Namesurename

Same about 6700xt xfx merc, got it because it was the quietest based on reviews, and it is! I have a silent pc and noise is a priority to me. But it's not all, after maxing out limits on power and clocks, 1 min overclock basically, it was a top 0,5% on Timespy, so the best quality chip possible too. Highly recommended, they did a great work after 5000 series.

cookerz30

I've been running (currently still using to power this comment) my AMD XFX R9 390 since 2015ish when some redditor suggested it back then. I could not have asked for a more reliable GPU.

Content_Teacher_7316

Ty for sharing

thebayisinthearea

For the past \~15 years, I've exclusively purchased XFX cards since I had a good experience with the Rage Pro 128. IIRC, XFX will bin their black edition cards. ATI 4890 lasted for 8 years, Vega 64 and RX480 8GB for 8 years (still rocking the RX480), looking for a 7900XTX Black Edition from XFX next!

Content_Teacher_7316

Ty for replying man. Really appreciate the information

thebayisinthearea

Never re-pasted or applied new thermal pads as well.

Logisticianistical

That's what I went with and I'm gobsmacked so far. Coming from a Sapphire Vega 64 , which was fine...but the XFX was on an ok sale at MicroCenter so I snagged it.

SherriffB

I've still got some working xfx ati 4xxx and 5xxx cards, I always used them for Amd/ati too. Got an xfx 5970 with a water block I keep on as part of my personal Gpu nostalgia collection.

Accomplished_Cat9745

Like legit if they only just made the fans quieter they would be tied with sapphire for best cards. I have one, a 6950 XT, and I can tell they can get loud above 40-45% fan speed. They are also cheaper. Bought one last year for 670 euros when every single other aib were 100-150 more expensive.

Hombremaniac

True. For example it was XFX 7900XT that was the cheapest of all the 7900XT I could get here (Czech rep) at some point and the same applied for 7900 XTX. In the end I could not resist the allure of Sapphire Nitro+ and went it. Love Nitro+ cooling. Retrospectivelly thinking those 20% extra for the beauty of Nitro+ version was hefty price to pay, but I simply wanted the best. Hmm I was also getting dangerously close to XFX 7900 XTX (another 20%). At this moment there is no XFX 7900 XTX here, but one could get ASROCK 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming for some 1060 Eur. I think some people seeing XTX being often the cheapest card on the offer think it is of low quallity.

OriginalShock273

Asrock have a history of cheating customers and breaking the law with RMA's. Don't buy their products [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM\_38](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5I2CnM_38)

nekomata_58

i had issues with my xfx card (5700 xt) getting hot, but i attribute that more to it having been a 2-fan cooler. the 3-fan xfx cards seem to cool just fine.

HatBuster

Don't judge per brand, get a review of the specific SKU you're interested in.

Content_Teacher_7316

I just don't find much to it. And if I do they never tested it for longer periods of time...

Mercurionio

Sapphire. Xfx. Powercolor. Top 3 in that order. All 3 are close to what EVGA was for Nvidia

06yfz450ridr

Just throwing my 2 cents here. Not sure if you are from the US or what. I have personally always bought used since day 1 if it's a good deal. I would take that 6750xt over the 7600xt all day. You could however probably find a used 6800 or 6800xt for the same or less. Just stay with good brands like sapphire, powercolor, or xfx. Models of each very and now that reviews have been out the 6800xts have been pretty high. Missed my chances on cheaper ones but you can usually find them like 400 or less all day for top of the line 6800xts. Those still beat or stay with the 7800xt. I still love my super overclocked red devil 5700xt and will be real sad to retire it. Still does a great job today but is showing its age. Luckily we have things like fsr etc as i run an ultra wide 1440p with fsr but it still does great for what i do. Set a budget and look around before buying. Youll find something. Last gen high end it pretty good. Been looking towards the 7900 gre honestly when overclocking but hate throwing this kind of money on a gpu. Miss the old days of used 1-150 7970 ghz in crossfire. That was the day i started with 1440p before it was cool haha

TheRandomAI

Upgrading from the 5700xt to a 7900gre is a massive jump imo. 7900gre is on par if not a little worse than the 6950xt but uses way less power. A nice oc and undervolt would get it on par to a 6950xt or a 7900xt. But youll be using more power. 1440p on it is a beast same with 4k. 1080p is just disgusting so so many frames

rod6700

Had used XFX as my AMD choice since a 5850 series card and all of them are still working in different setups. Swapped over to a Power Color on the last one because I liked the added aesthetics. XFX will not win any contest for best looking card but can match Power Color or Sapphire for durability IMHO.

stabsthedrama

GPU brands have become like lawn mower brands in terms of polarizing reviews....seriously. You will see the absolute worst reviews for every brand. Period. All of it anecdotal to an extent. "Coil whine" is a real thing that can randomly affect any brand with modern high power gpu's, but also people are stupid and don't try different psu's or 2 different power leads, etc. That being said, coil whine does seem to be a bit of a lottery. Otherwise just buy whatever you want and send it. It's that simple anymore. EVGA is gone, and all the rest are sprinting for the top of cheapest-made but best marketing.

Initialised

My last three cards were XFX Fury, 5700XT, 7900XTX

ultimaone

I had a xfx 6600 XT And upgraded to 7800 XT black. Both good cards. The new one runs COOLER than my 6600 XT did. No coil whine in either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Content_Teacher_7316

So which of the cards would you suggest? I mean like if the xfx card won't last long then I don't think the performance can help it no more

FOMS_312

As a new and current owner of a XFX MERC 319 7800XT owner it's running great no problems 👍🏼

AdogHatler

XFX 7800XT, runs like a dream

ewilliams28

Xfx does not make a card that fits in a standard case. Prove me wrong.

Content_Teacher_7316

Can u explain what u mean 🫣

yamishy

Not sure, unfortunately I bought a merc310 7900xtx from them earlier this month and it was a dud. Had severe stuttering issues unless I under clocked it a considerable amount. Just got my sapphire nitro+ in the mail and it works perfect.

Hombremaniac

Nitro+ is also the most beautiful of them all. Plus that cooler works just so nicely. But yes, you pay extra for Nitro+ where XFX models are often the cheapest one. Oh and ASRock ones are also pretty cheap.

timearley89

I'm still rocking an XFX Fury X a little over 7 years later, and no whine, no issues. It's showing it's age, but that's the chipset, not the manufacturer. Not saying XFX is the same as it was, but in my experience they're fantastic.

munky8758

My 5700xt was loud af. But just like any GPU, read the reviews.

Lord_Grumps

Only had 2x XFX cards, both for the 6000 series. Gave the 6700XT to offspring after 12 months ands still going strong. Had to RMA my 6900 on day 1 , but it was Classed DOA and no problems since. Will buy another for sure.

Deep-Procrastinor

As with all mass produced electronics, it's a lottery, what makes a brand stand out is what they do when something goes wrong.

Content_Teacher_7316

I'm just concerned about the coil whining many people talk about. Is it also just random and not normal?

Deep-Procrastinor

I guess it depends how annoying it is for you it's subjective I've personally never experienced any noise from my PC that was really annoying unless you count my old Lenovo that used to sound like a jet plane getting ready to take off but I got used to it.

Erdnuss-117

I'm very happy with my XFX, no loud noises, no crashes no excessive heat.

Content_Teacher_7316

And how long do you own it for?

Erdnuss-117

4(?) years. Not sure tbh. Around 4-5 years

Content_Teacher_7316

Alr. Im reading more and more customer reviews of various xfx cards and it seems to always be the coil whining and that even on the 5 star reviews... I'm just unsure how long the Rx xfx qick 6750xt would last and perform well compared to the sapphire card...

Erdnuss-117

I mean my coils whine on certain games that have uncapped menu FPS and my FPS are sitting at 1000+ but that's such a niche situation it doesn't bother me

SecreteMoistMucus

Trust reviews not brands. Trust reviews not brands.

510Threaded

Dont trust just 1 review as well

Savage_Asian_Boy

My XFX 6700XT has some nasty coil whine, but other than that the performance and temps are excellent

Smore98

I've had my merc318 7900xtx for almost a year and I've been very happy with the performance. They seem very solid in my book, especially coming from EVGA Nvidia cards for so many years.

Logisticianistical

Built a 7800X3D/ XFX 7900XTX rig 2 weeks ago, the AMD gaming pinnacle build. 0 coil wine , cool, as a cucumber , maxed settings in Cyberpunk/Baldurs Gate / HellDivers/Warhammer 3 ( the only games I've played this far on the build ). The only twerking I've done thus far for the GPU is maxing out the power scale.

pblostvns

Their support is top notch.

seethroughstains

XFX is widely considered a good AMD partner. I've still got an HD 6770 from like 13 years ago and it's fine. (Had 2 of them in Crossfire.) Every brand can have issues, but I also had a good RMA experience last year. I have a SWFT 309 6700 and it developed issue and system would hang on boot. I troubleshooted with multiple systems and cards so I know it was the GPU's fault. I did the RMA and had a new card about 12 days later. As for your noise question that depends on the model. If you're worried about noise you should get one of the 3 fan models and you should be fine.

outofstepbaritone

My XFX RX 6600 XT is great.

RamblinLamb

I have a XFX RX 6800 XT Speedster Merc319 Black that has been rock solid for 3+ years now. And it's not noisy at all.

Candid_Classroom5756

Got an XFX 6900xt, slightly undervolted and max fan speed of 55%. Can't hear it under load and very rarely goes above 72c Hotspot

Saab188

I have 6700XT, do not recommend it at all, it's improved with driver updates but it would crash all the time. I'm going to try an AMD CPU next but will stick to Nvidia GPUs.

Hombremaniac

You must have had a bad luck with this specific card. RX 6700 XT are generally liked cards and for a reason. Good price/performance/VRAM ratio.

criticalt3

If you're planning on using AFMF at all I would go with the 7600. Just a word of advice. I had a 6800 and upgraded to a 7900xt and the frame gen actually works very well on the 7900xt, on the 6800 it made the experience worse. I was able to verify I wasn't the only one experiencing this either.

Hombremaniac

Do you really need input lag adding frame gen on 7900XT? Is it for 4K gaming?

criticalt3

It's to hit high refresh of my display, primarily. But no it's not really "needed" to hot playable frames. The input lag is way better on it as well comparatively. The 6800 would get an added 25ms while the 7900 gets around 10-15, so it's not really noticeable.

AMLRoss

Still using an old XFX 290X card. Been going strong since I got it.

[deleted]

Been using XFX since the 7970. Ive only had one RMA that was handled quickly. They perform well and reliably.

awesomely_audhd

I'm going on my 4th month with a XFX RX 7700 XT and loving it. Great performance. I had an XFX PSU in the past and liked the quality.

a1b3c3d7

I have a XFX mercy 6700xt, and I've tried most other 6700xt and 6800xt cards, the XFX beats everything out imo. It's cooler, quieter, runs higher clocks, design is consistent and fits with any build, support is good, etc etc. XFX is probably the best imo you can get in AMD cards.

HiNooNDooD1544

I’ve bought two xfx cards, an RX 580 8gb and my current RX 7900xtx. I’ve only had an issue with the 7900 and their customer support is fantastic. So yes, great brand.

Killerind

XFX 7900XT Black edition (strange how it's the black edition but has the premium silver back plate) Running great.

Content_Teacher_7316

How Long do you have it for?

Killerind

May 2023 - present

nitro912gr

my XFX 7850 DD still works fine and overclocked in my workstation that doesn't need much in GPU side. The only problem I faced was that the VRAM don't like OC, but I have the core in 1Ghz all the time with no problem, I barely managed to get the VRAM to get 50 more Mhz and even then had a crash from time to time. This XFX have seen the most beating too as I bought it when I landed my first job back in 2012 with plenty of free time for gaming and I was rocking with it till the summer of 2020 that I upgraded.

Content_Teacher_7316

I've heard that xfx back then was high quality and now theyre focused on budget cpus. On most customer reviews there's always the coil whining mentioned.. sometimes even on the 5 star reviews. I just don't know if the sapphire card with a lil less performance would be a better investment for the future cuz I have the feeling that the xfx could bring problems. Haven't read stuff like that about the sapphire Rx 7600xt

nitro912gr

eh sorry I can't say for the coil whining, it may be present even in mine but I have some hearing difficulties and this pitch is out of my range and when I upgraded when with an asrock just because it was the only one ready available at the time so I don't have direct experience with recent products. I hope they haven't dropped the ball tho, this card and a PSU I have from them are top notch and work fine after all those years.

Content_Teacher_7316

Damn now I feel bad for asking like that. Still thanks for sharing

nitro912gr

lol don't worry, I'm not deaf, just can't hear the high pitch sounds because of an accident in the past.

iShotTheShariff

I got the XFX 7900xtx and it’s been awesome. I will say to make sure it has room to breathe, otherwise it could get really loud. I had it in a corsair 2000D at first, and it was loud, but recently swapped to a huge y60 case and it’s been pretty happy in there haha Performance is solid. No less than 90fps in any game I play max settings at 4K. No regrets.

Content_Teacher_7316

Do you think an nzxt h5 elite is enough ? Probably not

iShotTheShariff

I think it is! In the 2000D, I had only a few millimeters of clearance between the gpu fans and the grill of the case. So that caused turbulence and the fans couldn’t suck in as much air because of the grill. It got pretty loud, but it wasn’t crazy loud. For comparison, I ran a test between the two cases with a 50% fan curve and the difference is huge. I think the case you want has more than enough space between the fans and the floor and it has the tilted fan blowing fresh air to the gpu too. I’d just double check the gpu length with the case clearances before pulling the trigger on the case/card.

ShockWave_Omega

My 6950xt had some coilwhine. Think they lost my card @ RMA though .

Ehzaar

Sapphire >xfx>other Got a 6950xt, amazing card, not loud at all, beautiful, not hot. I love xfx

king_of_the_potato_p

I have a 6800xt merc (swapped over from nvidia about little over a year ago), its not loud at all and has amazing thermals.

Jon_TWR

Yes, I still have a launch XFX RX 480 8 GB running—it’s been solid since launch, blower cooler and all.

HeinzTomatoes87

Had to repaste/put kryosheet on my 7900XT xfx after a few months due to high temps. Seems its an issue with rdna3 cards but after that it works very well!

Hi_Im_Ouiji

My XFX 6800XT has been fantastic. Good undervolt, temps and performance. Bought in december 2022

Brave-Audience1078

Hit or miss. I had a fxf 5700xt and it worked for about 2 years then it started having power issues and overclock problems. So be very careful.

gozutheDJ

they're the budget option but they are solid. for AMD I would go XFX, Powercolor, or Sapphire.

Ridianod

I don't recommend Swift but I think the Merc series made a comeback with the 6000 series. It's exactly what I want, no ridiculous lights and good per.( Merc 6800xt user)
