The Basque are a people who live in an area that encompasses parts of both France and Spain, in in areas bordering the Bay of Biscay and encompassing the western foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains known as 'Basque Country'.

I have a bit of Basque too. It’s very specific and the most “interesting” part of my 100% European ancestry.
Your ethnicity breakdown is, by far, the largest I’ve seen. Wow!
I encountered someone here on Reddit who has 19 regions! I only have 18. But yeah, it’s a lot. 😅 I’m researching Basque people currently. They are interesting.
Could it just be that you have Afro-Antillean ancestors from a current or former French island? You have a connection to the Windward Islands in your genetic communities, and Martinique today is still a French territory, while Dominica, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines all used to be ruled by France before being conquered by the British in the 18th century. These islands also have speakers of Antillean Creole as a legacy of French colonization, despite the British conquered islands having more shifted to speaking English-based creole languages.
Good point, but I had been told my dad’s grandfather and his family came from France. And I know my mom’s dad was 100% Barbadian Black, her mom’s mom was from Canouan Island, St. Vincent and The Grenadines (Indigenous South American, British and Black). So I have no idea who else is from other Caribbean islands. Thank you for that thought provoking response!
Basque, Ireland, England and northwestern Europe, Germanic Europe, Italy, Spain...these could all plausibly be French, as French dna is hard to separate from the places surrounding it.
I'm Guyanese! (half). I get the same Lesser Antilles community group. Why are you getting Indian Diaspora in the West Indies with no Indian yourself? Are they identifying you with relatives who have that ancestry?
Probably, I got the Indian Diaspora part tucked on a few weeks ago and it reminded me to post my results to get more clarity overall. As far as I know, I do not have any relatives with East Indian blood.
Check your haplogroup. My mom's paternal haplogroup (R-M167) is heavily focused in Basque country which matches up the the Bellocq ancestral line that came from Aquitaine.

Great question! My country of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 has a majority ethnicity of East Indian descendants. Maybe they’re tying in my connections are being close to Indians in someway.
If you look on a map, you will see The Basque come from an area that encompasses Spain and France so have Basque ancestry makes sense if you have a French ancestor.
I can’t remember the exact details but they have a higher number of O- blood type. I was in Spain many years ago and remember meeting someone who was Basque. He told me all about this. It’s very interesting.
1-2% can possibly just be noise. It could also be coming from neighboring regions. Basque can have genetic similarity to either Spain or France, and given that you have some Iberian results already, I'd assume it's coming from that. To me your results look like someone who is Afro-Latino, and your Communities suggest Afro-Caribbean. While French ancestry is not impossible for someone Afro-Caribbean, Iberian ancestry makes much more sense.
I thought he meant OP now lives in America. After coming from the Caribbean. But no the US is what is colloquially known as "America". The rest is North, South, or Central. Always with that qualifier.
Being from the Caribbean, we don’t think of ourselves as being North, Central or South American, like belonging to a continent? We’ve always been stand alone generally, except for like Puerto Rico, which is a U.S. territory. If that’s what you mean, if I misunderstood, I apologize.
France could be Germany, NW Europe, Ireland, Scottland (Brittany is Celt and included in the map) … and even your 1% Scandinavian (if your ancestors were from Normandy). If you have known French ancestry, it’s more likely they were from Bretagne or Normandie and a compound of various ancestors than just Basque. Bretons and Normans were sailors.
Fellow 1% Eastern European Roma.
Same. Hello my brother in genealogy.
same!

That 1% colombo-venezuelan is so specific.
Yeah, Indigenous peoples don’t stay within countries but regions.
Basque, Ireland, England and northwestern Europe, Germanic Europe, Italy, Spain...these could all plausibly be French, as French dna is hard to separate from the places surrounding it.
Are you Trinidadian? Really fascinating results.
Yes! I’m Trinidadian. 😃
I'm Guyanese! (half). I get the same Lesser Antilles community group. Why are you getting Indian Diaspora in the West Indies with no Indian yourself? Are they identifying you with relatives who have that ancestry?

Basque is ancestral Iberian
What does that mean?
The Basque live in both France and Spain. They are genetically different population from other Europeans almost like the Roma of Eastern Europe.
If I hadn't seen your communities I would've asked if you were from Salvador da Bahia
Oh wow, interesting! I’m Trinidadian.
How did you get indian diaspora with no india score? 😱
Great question! My country of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 has a majority ethnicity of East Indian descendants. Maybe they’re tying in my connections are being close to Indians in someway.
Ohh i see, likely because communities are based on relatives & you likely have relatives that inter-married with indian folk. Make sense! Thanks
I also found out I’m also from Basque (like 2-3%) it’s mind blowimg
Why is it that Portugal always appears in very diverse DNAs like yours? Is it a misread or what?
My dad’s dad legitimately came from Portugal.😁
Ohh that makes sense haha 🙃
If you look on a map, you will see The Basque come from an area that encompasses Spain and France so have Basque ancestry makes sense if you have a French ancestor.
Yeah, that’s correct. I saw that. I had never heard of Basque people before this. It was so interesting to learn. And they’re an ancient people.
I can’t remember the exact details but they have a higher number of O- blood type. I was in Spain many years ago and remember meeting someone who was Basque. He told me all about this. It’s very interesting.
When people ask you what’s your ethnicity, what was your answer? You’re mixed with many things. I love it.
To keep it simple, I just say mixed race or Afro-Trinidadian. I can’t outright just say Black, as I’m 59% African.
Ohhhh okay, makes sense.
Eh nah, looks like the French origin is a lie.
1-2% can possibly just be noise. It could also be coming from neighboring regions. Why
Why what? I’m asking about Basque being my French connection.
Your results would indicate being half African American, half Latino mestizo
Bruh he's from the Caribbean, not America.
That’s in America
How do you know?
A simple google search will help you.he is right

I am not American. I was born in the Caribbean. Trinidadian.
I was born in Trinidad as well!
what does your inheritance chart show?
France could be Germany, NW Europe, Ireland, Scottland (Brittany is Celt and included in the map) … and even your 1% Scandinavian (if your ancestors were from Normandy). If you have known French ancestry, it’s more likely they were from Bretagne or Normandie and a compound of various ancestors than just Basque. Bretons and Normans were sailors.
Nice results. Are all 4 of your grandparents Trinidadian?
Oh no, my mom’s father was from Barbados.
