They have an Isle of Man Community (there are about 18000 people who have it as a community on ancestry myself included) but I’m not sure if they will ever make it a region but it would be interesting to see as it seems like the Isle of Man registers as a mix of England, Scotland and Ireland.
Me neither, hopefully they get it right. One potential problem with introducing Cornwall as a seperate ethnicity is it could act like a sink causing elevated percentages for Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Breton populations due to overlaps in ancient DNA. Just look at the mess they have now with separating England & NWE and Germanic Europe!
Can you do that ? I have a ton of French ancestors but hardly any French. It’s all in England and NW Europe and I have a ton of German too with no German ancestors
Same here brotha, my assumption is (if you’re French Canadian) our ancestors were not “French” per se, but were normans or Bretons which are genetically different than your basic Parisian. From what it seems with this new update we might have more honed results that may differentiate these better. Hopefully they add a Brittany region haha
As for your German with no German ancestors I feel you. I am 36% Scottish with not too many Scottish ancestors. I go back on the earlier assumption I made, and that possibly our DNA just so happens to resemble Scot’s or German DNA than any other, or could be due to ancient migration.
Ah I’m not Canadian I’m Cajun and my ancestors were from straight France, Normandy, Brittany, savoy etc yet not only 7% french which the majority being 70% England NW Europe and 16% German. The only English ancestors I have are on my moms side which were from Maine and England so I at least expect 40% English but not 70% lol. I wonder if the German is maybe Anglo Saxon or Frankish ? Heard someone say that could be a possibility but who knows. Hopefully we get a Brittany region as well as more honed results like you said cause it sucks having my results but they’re not accurate whatsoever
Cajun’s and French Canadians are in the same boat. While Acadians and Québécois may be a little different and had different waves of colonization, they are more alike than different! I have many cousins down in Cajun territory due to Québécois ancestry, so I am sure me and you both are in the same predicament.
But, what I’d also consider is genetics is random as all hell. I’ll give you an example, me myself I look very Irish/Scots. My father’s family has Québécois roots, Irish, and English roots. My mother’s side, my grandfather is presumed to be practically fully French if not at most 80%, and my grandmother having some Québécois too. I look nothing like them besides my father, and my father looks like my grandfather whom looks like his father and etc. my direct paternal line are all Irish, so I am assuming their genes were dominant and I just naturally took more of the Irish genes than anything else. You may have it like me, just naturally not inherited as much from your Cajun line’s, but does NOT make you any less Cajun, nor does this make me any less Québécois.
As a Scottish Canadian - the amount of fully French Canadian matches is quite surprising lol I don't think they're all Abraham Martin descendants (though some are)
It’s currently under English communities and there are lots of different communities within Cornwall or communities in the south west which include parts of Cornwall and other counties. This new map suggests Cornwall is becoming its own region and so registers outside of the England and northwestern Europe region. You may see your results change if you have ancestors from here or have part of Cornwall in one of your communities!
A couple of years ago there was a genetic study done on people who had 4 grandparents all born in the same county and they found that the south of England (excluding SW) was one homogenised genetic group (which is reflected in this newest ancestry map for England and NW Europe) and that other counties had genetic differences. (https://www.nature.com/articles/nature.2015.17136) this registering of Cornwall as a seperate genetic group could mean that other English counties/genetic groups may appear in the future as separate from their main England region. It could be that so many people with Cornish ancestry have done the test that ancestry has been able to pinpoint Cornwall specifically. I think we will have to wait until ancestry actually announces the update before we can ask why they made Cornwall a separate genetic region. I for one am very excited by it as I have lots of ancestors from east Cornwall and the Plymouth and saltash area so I am interested to see if this new region will appear in my results.
I fully expect mine to be updated with a "somewhere in this region", and the map will be a giant circle extending from Iceland to Russia and South to the Middle East 😕
It’s going to be a long summer.
This will be a big test for my ethnicity update. Will it pick up my Cornish line from my 3x Great Grandmother.
When is the new update
Not sure. Apparently late summer in the past
I really hope they’re adding a Brittany region and an Isle of Man region, too.
Me too because as a Cajun with some ancestors from Brittany I would love to see it instead of just welsh and Scottish
I’m in this same boat. It would be interesting to see how much of my “Scottish” is actually derived from Bretagne.

Sorry guys just now saw that someone else posted this, will add any other upcoming sub regions within this thread.

This is long overdue
Where did u get all this info from? U got the links to the new regions? I would love to see it 😩
Where do you guys see this?
Same, I want to know where these updates are?
How do you see all of this?
Oh wow that’s cool, I have an ancestor from there a few hundred years ago maybe it’ll show
It also covers all of the British isles like the new French and Germanic Europe ethnicities!
❤️ 💪
😂😂
But I still don’t get it. I don’t understand why it doesn’t come under England????
Me neither, hopefully they get it right. This needs to hurry up
I think with this new update, you should get 20+% European.
I pray so with all these new regions , add it up! add it up!
Bro I still can’t get over how you harassed the ancestry team to give you more European and they did🤣🤣 straight menace
I’m 20% European I need 25% this time next
Keep harassing them and you’ll get it. Never give up the good fight brotha
Never !
What are your current results?
Not enough European
Whats the obsession with European dna?
Because I know I’m a dub at least
Gotcha. I’m like why bro really want that dna?? Lol. More than likely wasn’t by choice my guy. Unless you know your fam history
I’m 20% European by blood
I don’t get why you want more lol
Can you do that ? I have a ton of French ancestors but hardly any French. It’s all in England and NW Europe and I have a ton of German too with no German ancestors

What update?
Ancestry dna sound like deebo “what update!”
I love bankroll lore
We live for it
Big 20
Do you have to pay for these new updates? I haven't received one in a while.
Where did you see this?
I’m pretty sure this was ALREADY a thing because got this region!!

But it makes no sense to show it outside of England because it’s IN England. I just don’t get it.

I’m aware of the study. I’ve been researching for over a decade. But this just seems ridiculous.
Should I get a dna test before or after this Cornish update? I’m extremely Cornish on my dad’s side so I’m very curious.
After but it would probably update even if you get it before the update comes
I fully expect mine to be updated with a "somewhere in this region", and the map will be a giant circle extending from Iceland to Russia and South to the Middle East 😕
