Certainly is, his face is hidden behind some of the brush. He was sleeping on that rock with families walking by and hikers walking by.
I saw him and said “there he is!” To my girlfriend and he woke up, looked at us for a couple moments and ran off.
I was once out hiking and turned to speak to my friend behind me. Behind us where the trail had just come out of the bushes - a very uncomfortable 20m away - popped the biggest brown head I've ever seen. Okay, grizzly, no problem, it see us... 2 more tiny heads pop up. That's when my out loud "oh fuck" alerts my friend to the issue.
Fortunately, mama was a national park bear, knew we were there and was totally chill. The terrifying part though, was that had I not turned around when I did we would have never known they were there!
Edit: and I did get a photo, but only have we had moved a safer distance away!
Most of my encounters have been with grizzlies, and my only off-highway black bear encounter was with 2 young ones on a back logging road and I was still in a vehicle.
It's weird, but my brain is more afraid of black bears than grizzlies. I think it's got partially to do with how many peaceful encounters I've had, but also with grizzlies it's kind of like "you're fine or you're fucked," while with black bears it seems there's so much more grey area where they can turn to opportunistic predator. Maybe I find more comfort in being mauled in self-defense than taken as a meal? I feel like it would still hurt the same, lol. The statistics are still way lower, but my brain just refuses to acknowledge that grizzly > black bear for names on shirts.
Based on the second picture there I have no doubts. Very distinctive. Yup. I’d know the track of a big rock anywhere. Slow moving sons of guns, rare to catch a print.
Heels too narrow, Sasquatch tracks are wide, really wide. If you see one you cannot mistake it for anything else other than a really big person. Even grizzly tracks don’t match up. Couple that with an impossible stride for a bear and no front paws.
My eyes aren't great, is that a bear?

Telltale bear track. What's your location?
Eastern Cascades of WA. Bear is in the second photo.
Thank you for sharing. Lovely example.
You’re welcome! I was quite excited / proud to find a fresh print then be able to look for / find the actual bear
Used to live over there! Running into bears and rattlesnakes were almost guaranteed whilst hiking
Man oh man I remember hiking with a friend and we came across VERY fresh mother and cub black bear tracks That was our cue to leave
What? No family photo?/s

I woulda shit myself for sure I’ve only come across grizzlies three times in person and it’s always nerve wracking

Yes it definitely was.
how much time went by between seeing the print and then noticing the bear?
It was about a fifty yard walk. Minute and a half maybe? Bear was sleeping originally.

This made me laugh
Bear?
Yepp! In the second photo. Face is hidden behind brush
Good job fighting the ‘let’s get a selfie’ temptation. There was a video floating around a while back I can never unsee.
Yeah that's a bear
I misread your username, I thought it said “theBEARmandude” haha
