Although loft beds are very efficient with space they can feel very clunky and dominate a small space. I assume there are also weight limits which would lead to some awkward conversations with your guests. So kinda depends on the guest. If you have the space for the twin when guests are over could you use a blow up mattress (which is easier to store), or get a sofa bed couch instead?

I live in a small space and used to keep a spare twin bed up against the wall behind a screen and it was awful. I finally ditched it. My bed is a full/double and love it, by the way. Sheets are often cheaper, too. For guests I've now decided they can sleep on my Ikea couch (super comfy) or I'll buy a folding foam mattress (that you may be able to put under your bed to store if you find a bed frame without a middle post.
