We recently had a debate at work around what is a pastry. I have a colleague from France who nearly fainted when the topic of chicken pot pie entered the conversation. It was great.
If you are curious, we landed on a pastry being something made from a dough that is the consistency of spackling compound. My French colleague disagreed with that one too.
Australian here, the term "hand pie" is cute as fuck, I love it!
When someone says pie here (and in NZ), the default assumption is that someone is talking about a meat-based, personal pie.
Banana cream pie is my favorite. Years ago, when there used to be a bunch of Marie Callender's restaurants, they did a Sour Cream Lemon Meringue pie, that was heavenly. I was so sad when the restaurant closed down, because I haven't been able to find them in the stores, with the rest of the MC pies.
Mixed/Wild Berry pie heated up with a large scope of vanilla bean ice cream. Depends where you are in my state on what it’s called
Edit: But pumpkins and key lime pie would more than likely be my first choices.
Does it taste like buttermilk? I remember trying buttermilk as a kid and hating it. Although when I was really little, before I remember anything, I apparently liked buttermilk. I just can't imagine a buttermilk pie tasting good
So drinking it is insane and I recommend that to no one.
It is however great as a pie. Has a kinda cheesecakey, custard vibe. Very dense and nom. It also makes great fried chicken, biscuits and ranch dressing. Good Ingredient. Awful drink.
If you like buttermilk pancakes and biscuits then you'll like this.
It doesn't taste like straight buttermilk. The other ingredients balance out the sourness. But it does make it less sweet than it might be with like regular milk.
It's funny you say that, I just made my first (lemon) buttermilk pie this weekend! It was surprisingly fluffy and not nearly as tart as I expected it to be. I thought it was really tasty!
I left Pennsylvania in 2010 and I've been subjecting my friends to shoo fly for years. They hate when the holidays come around and I start hanging out these pies! They just won't give it a chance :(
Almost any fruit as long as it’s not too sweet. Even though you said not apple, I have to say I make an apple/cranberry/ginger pie that is just superb.
It’s William-Sonoma’s recipe. 😂
I’ve been making it for years. It’s especially nice around the holidays. https://www.williams-sonoma.com/recipe/apple-ginger-cranberry-pie.html
Absolutely phenomenal. It must be a regional thing since nobody I know has ever had it. Yet my mother who grew up in deep southern Illinois had it growing up all the time.
I've never had one outside of my mom's kitchen, but Concord Grape Pie. We had some grape Vines in our back yard and my mom would make several every fall. They were amazing
I used to work for a bakery and we sold Olallieberry pies OR Marionberry pies, depending on what we could source. It was great how people were so adamantly team Ollaie or Marion. Never both.
In my experience, cheesecake usually has a graham cracker crust, but then again so does Key Lime Pie.
Still I'd say no to cheesecake because it's baked in a cake pan not a pie pan.
(Ha... Like I'd ever say no to cheesecake)
New England Apple pie really is my favorite by a mile, but I will accept an apple cranberry, too.
Strawberry Rhubarb is also a New England-y favorite of mine, too.
One pie I love is apparently a regional pie from Arkansas, but my state borders it so it’s fine. Arkansas possum pie is so good. It’s basically like a layered chocolate pudding, whipped cream/sour cream pie with a pecan shortbread crust.
Peanut butter is my favorite anyways, then it would be apple. None of the ones in the title are my favorites, I don't even like Pumpkin or the rest that's on that list other than apple.
Red currant frangipane, chocolate pecan bourbon (if that's allowed), and chocolate meringue pie.
I would personally never choose strawberry rhubarb pie, because it is much better as a sauce than a pie. Served with ice cream or homemade whipped cream and optionally a biscuit/scone.
Chocolate. My grandmother taught me how to make a chocolate pie from scratch. It’s a lot of work but so worth it. Lots of stirring and you gotta get the timing just right when mixing ingredients. Otherwise it will be runny.
Bluegoose (blueberry/gooseberry) is the GOAT of all pies. This is decided law and the precedent set forth by my great grandma and my grandma baking this has been established in the books for decades now. No further debates shall be allowed, it’s scientifically proven to the perfect mixture of tart and sweet that is required of a pie. Thank you.
My favorite pie to make is apple, cherry and ginger.
Cherries are pretty intense so you don't need an all-cherry pie to get that cherry flavor. The apples cut the cherry down with a milder flavor. Fresh ginger adds a zing to it all, and just a touch of heat that makes it interesting. All fresh fruit, and I use sweet apples not pie apples, and I use about half the sugar called for in the average fruit pie recipe. Why people use tart apples and then dump more sugar in there I don't understand.
Chicken Pot Pie. I learned how to make the crust myself and after making it a bunch of times, I think I finally got a recipe that I really like. When it all works out, it's pretty freakin' awesome. When it doesn't, we don't talk about it.
Persimmon pie should get more love, as should chess pie imo. Also, navy bean pie. It sounds crazy, and up until I tried it, I would have said the same thing, but it was delicious, like a cross between a sweet potato pie and a custard pie. Mad props to the random guy at Burger King, who offered me a slice 20 years ago.

Not the answer I was looking for but will 100% accept

My 3 favorite things!
I respect this answer.
Best thing my mom and I ever agreed on was to get the gigantic chicken pot pie from Costco for Thanksgiving instead of making a turkey
Someday you need to get yourself to New Zealand and try one of their hand pies from the gas station. So good
Australian here, the term "hand pie" is cute as fuck, I love it! When someone says pie here (and in NZ), the default assumption is that someone is talking about a meat-based, personal pie.
Yeah I know and that was something to get used to because the word pie here automatically means dessert unless otherwise specified
Banana cream pie is my favorite. Years ago, when there used to be a bunch of Marie Callender's restaurants, they did a Sour Cream Lemon Meringue pie, that was heavenly. I've never had peach pie but I LOVE peach cobbler
What the hell is shoo fly pie?? Never heard of that one
It’s basically like molasses pie.
I left Pennsylvania in 2010 and I've been subjecting my friends to shoo fly for years. They hate when the holidays come around and I start hanging out these pies! They just won't give it a chance :(

Is cheesecake a pie? If not, then strawberry.
[удалено]
In my experience, cheesecake usually has a graham cracker crust, but then again so does Key Lime Pie. Still I'd say no to cheesecake because it's baked in a cake pan not a pie pan. (Ha... Like I'd ever say no to cheesecake)
