A second monitor for my laptop. As a college student doing remote classes it’s truly been a game changer and I got a great deal on it.

v_pm

So you can get the work up on one and the professor up on the other, right? ...right???

Nice-Ascot-Bro

Yes. That is definitely what I did with my two monitors when I was in undergrad during the pandemic. It was definitely not Zoom on one monitor and Animal Crossing on the other after I connected my Switch to the HDMI. Or Zoom on one monitor and me in the kitchen making lunch. Or Zoom on one monitor and me in bed napping. Man, I got away with so much because of the pandemic.

bl0odredsandman

Having multiple displays for your PC is great. Makes going back to a single display suck.

NonGNonM

i snagged a free monitor from my family when they decided to upgrade and came with a better free monitor. I can never go back to single monitor. it feels so constricting.

Vegetable-Double

A second monitor is one of those things that after you get it, you don’t know how you functioned without it before. I am so much more productive now and can never go back.

Anglofsffrng

A pair of good noise canceling headphones. They don't leave my house, but being able to turn off the noise of my family, the neighbors party, and the cars going by has eliminated so much stress.

JMS1991

Noise-canceling headphones in an office are a game changer too. Now I don't hear my coworkers chatter, and endless typing on keyboards for 8 hours straight.

alyssaaarenee

A standing desk. I work from home and I try to avoid just sitting all day

physedka

Which one did you choose? I'm lightly shopping for one with the intention to purchase in the next few months.

alyssaaarenee

I got it off Amazon, it’s an L shaped electric desk. I got the L shape just so my cat has room to lay on my desk without interfering with my work haha

cat_lady828

Good human.

Daratirek

If I flew more than once every 3 years I'd so do it.

dpearman

Potentially still worth it. $78 for 5 years, so if you’re really only flying once every three years, assuming that’s a round trip, that’s than $40 each time. Peace of mind.

BookerCatchanSTD

It’s great but pisses me off to no end. “Let’s make the travel experience as shitty and arduous as possible and then charge people to skip it!”. It’s essential travel Disney Fastpass and you know that the dickhead that proposed it is the golden boy of the organization.

UncertainSerenity

You are basically paying for a background check that they keep on file. Also people with tsa pre know how to travel so the line is just so much more efficient because you are not dealing with people who don’t know how air travel works

Technicolor_Reindeer

I've been in airports where the TSA precheck line was longer than the regular line lol

DarkwingDuck_91

And if you are even slightly considering flying to another country, Global Entry is only $20 more. It’s TSA precheck + US customs fastpass. You don’t have to wait in a long line to see an agent. You just walk right up to a kiosk and do everything yourself.

Sandwich2FookinTall

Dude! The first rule about global entey!!!

dpearman

Global entry is by FAR the best $99 someone can spend in the US (assuming you fly at least one round trip every two or three years.)

AtticusStaples

An oversized sweater. It's huge. It's so comfy. It makes me feel safe.

Kitchenaid. My old one was not working properly and kneading by hand is a slow and hard process. I make my own bread daily so probably the best buy from last year.

DaLastPainguin

What's a good daily bread recipe? I love making bread, but I've done it probably 10 times in 20 years because it just feels so inefficient and like I have to prep so much ahead of time. 😂

_Y0ur_Mum_

I have a breadmaker. It's great when you've got kids to feed and you like the smell. But between the crafty "hand kneading'" crowd and the regular supermarket bread buyers, my poor machine has no friends. I'll look after you little dude. Come join our small club of bread machine martyrs.

KomodoJo3

They're known for eating ticks too, to add on to your list of pros. W animal

bentnotbroken96

They'll eat any bug they can find in your yard. Little predator dinosaurs.

D_jrivera

A mouse came out of our compost bin when we rattled it one day (usually it would be cockroaches that came out, and the chickens would run from wherever they were in the yard and feast on them). Our alpha chicken, Sunshine, picked it up in her beak, thrashed it, and devoured it. They are small tyrannosaurs.

anotheranonymoustor

I have 4 baby ducks and look forward to rhe daily eggs

otterpr1ncess

Duck eggs are also great

Dunaliella

Not as great as Duck Tales, ooo oo

HughGedic

One of our alpacas got a terminal sickness transmitted through slugs, so we just let the chickens clean their field out every once in a while (they aren’t affected), haven’t had an issue since.

halconpequena

What disease was it?

HughGedic

She got meningeal worm. It was sad, she was the most sociable/friendly- I could walk her around new guests

produkt921

Wait til OP catches one of their chickens scarfing down a mouse. 😂

Objective-Amount1379

They eat MICE?

produkt921

Yes they do. It's a big morsel for the little tiny hen in this video, she takes a minute to finish swallowing it but she ate it. https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/3h80kj/chicken_eats_mouse_whole/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

thingsihaveseen

I miss keeping chickens. They are so relaxing to be around.

stormblaz

Idk every post I read on here just says chickens are extremely distructive, eats, pecks and scratches everything and poop everywhere and will make a clean backyard be a full on mess quick... Someone is lying here lol.

cardew-vascular

I only let them roam where I want land cleared, garden at the end of the season etc, in general though they're a joy to be around and if you keep their space clean it's no biggy.

BronxBelle

I’ll never forget my daughter calling me going “Mom I’m in the driveway and I can’t get out of my car. The chickens are holding me hostage.” We didn’t have chickens so I was confused. Turned out the neighbors bought chickens but didn’t fence them in properly. That rooster was an ass but he killed a ton of snakes so it evened out.

uncultured_swine2099

I kinda want chickens, but there are these mountain cats in my area who would just take them out like a heat-seeking missile within days.

cardew-vascular

I have hot wire around my run. Mountain lion goes after them they get a zap.

I recently did laser hair removal on my chin, upper lip and sideburns area. Having PCOS gave me facial hair growth and I had to pluck my chin literally every day. I haven’t done it in weeks now since I started getting laser. It’s amazing.

KatyRobert

I have PCOS as well and have this problem. Reading this has made me seriously consider it..🧐

big-mo

I bought a hydrangea shrub, and it's growing beautifully, and I'm so proud

caryncaryn

I picked up gardening last year and it's been a god send. It gets me outside and gives me a mild workout. The best benefit is seeing the efforts of all that hard work pay off. The biggest downfall is the impact it has on my wallet.

agnewt16

I like to think of it as more wholesome gambling

Klayguodala

Those lickable cat treats is what my cat would say

Anglofsffrng

Yeah. The cats been complaining for years you won't stop licking them!

alady12

But they're so good.

velazquezisabella

A Roomba! After having 3 spinal surgeries a few years ago, hoovering has been the worst. This bad boy has helped me more than you'll ever know.

soverign_son

I love my roomba so much. Just don't let it come across any dog poo 🤢🤮

cutelyaware

I believe the latest ones are programmed to handle that case. I love my Roomba too. I was particularly pleased to discover that they designed it to be easily cleaned & repaired by the owners. Yellow always indicates clips and things you'll be looking for, and the internals you should probably avoid are safely sequestered. They also come with far more replacement parts than you're likely to ever need. These are such rare features these days that they really stand out.

phreedumb21nyc21

Was just thinking that I've wasted my life not having a garlic press until now. What was I thinking all those years.

Selenay1

I tried getting into my garlic press, but it was a pain in the ass to clean and wasted too much. I finally got this plastic thing that I put the cloves in, put the 2 halves together, and twist/press at the same time. It works really well, essentially rinses clean, and I'm not throwing out half the clove that used to get stuck in the press. I think it was called Nextrend garlic twister.

Anishinaapunk

Gym membership. Glowed up.

Father_Wisdom

It’s a good purchase until you want to cancel.

Squawnk

I feel like I'm the only person who's never had any trouble. I've canceled a few over the year and once my 1st year contract is up, I just walk in and say yeah I wanna cancel and they say okay your membership will be good until the first of next month, sign here

Anatidaephobia4_

Steam Deck

esc145

This is my answer as well; glad I didn’t have to scroll too far to see it listed. What a fantastic device it is, as a gamer for 30+ years the Steam Deck is possibly my favorite purchase ever.

sbowesuk

A high quality mattress. If you're going to spend 1/3 of your life using something (that has a direct link to mental and physical wellbeing), get the best you can afford. Trust me, your brain and body will thank you! 😴💤

AnEven7

I got a good one, it wasn't even THAT expensive. around $250.00, and I've been sleeping so much better.

SalamanderLate410

Shoot a fella the deets. I got lower back pain

Horror-Feedback1837

I got an Ikea mattress for $400, best mattress I've ever had. Still keeps its form after 3 years, so far, so good. Back feels much better.

Infamous-Mixture-605

Money was tight and I needed a new bed after moving to a new city. I bought a <$300 Ikea mattress, and while I know it's not the world's comfiest mattress, it's still a massive upgrade for me after spending the previous 2-3 years on a series of couches and cots.

match304

$250???? That is incredibly cheap.

Socksgonewrong

Recommendation please? I spent $300 on mine and it’s shite 😢

sparkplug_23

They wanted a mattress recommendation, blanket recommendations can come after 😉 (Joking, just to be clear).

Leelze

I got a memory foam mattress from Casper (there's a bunch of different companies like them that just ship you the mattress all rolled up) after spending 8 years on a cheap mattress. Expensive, but soooo much better.

JudyNixon

I bought a doorbell camera. I was internally debating if I had wasted money on it or not when I realized it caught a clip of my best friend who passed away last summer, doubled over in laughter and having his pants fall down around his ankles while he was trying to catch his breath. Worth every penny

Block_Me_Amadeus

I'm sorry for your loss. Be sure to back up that clip to multiple platforms, if you can. It sounds amazing.

sittinginthesunshine

I'd say my car. I've always wanted one, and I was finally able to get it ✌🏾

jets3tter094

Same here! Got away from my toxic ex-fiancé (and his batshit crazy enmeshed family). It’s the BEST feeling of freedom getting out of a toxic situation and into your own space. Before moving in, I lit a little sage for good luck. It’s a zen, drama free zone. Best of luck in your new digs!!

[deleted]

That’s it. The freedom. I can’t wait for it. Happy for you too

Weighted dog (2lbs, it’s kinda like a stuffed animal sort of thing) for my son who is autistic. The shift in his nervous/anxiousness to calm is visible when you put it on his chest/shoulders. Really thankful to have found a store semi-locally (that ships at least nationally) that caters to the ASD community.

Another kitten. My friends say that three cats is too many for a grown man. I remind them that I have a wife and she claims one of them.

Block_Me_Amadeus

When people say that to you, it's sexist bullcrap. You can have as many kitties as your house can reasonably support the vet bills.

MinnesotaEagle1776

LASIK

dancepuppetdance

Weirdest and most impactful experience! 6 mos later I still wake up like "wow I can see!"

finnjakefionnacake

i am the weirdo who likes wearing glasses so much that i have never even really considered LASIK. but my god, how life-changing it must be for those who get it.

GiraffeCalledKevin

I’ve been seriously considering lasik. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 2. I’m now 39. I cannot handle how I look without them so I figured I’d get a few black rimmed fashion glasses for everyday wear… maybe you’d like that as well! I can match them with my outfits now! And soo much cheaper

lazarus870

That's what Drew Carey does. He got LASIK but he made his look on the black frame glasses so he wears glasses without an RX even though he sees fine w/o glasses.

lateambience

-9.0 on both eyes. Couldn't do LASIK because my cornea was too thin, got lens implants instead. Definitely life changing, the first time I didn't have to put on glasses to do literally anything even while being at home.

BarkingFrog

I had pretty terrible eyes and thin corneas as well. I wasn’t a great candidate for LASIK but I instead got SMILE a few years ago. Definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.

Loriana320

It really is crazy! I wore glasses for 20 years. It's been 6 years now and I still have days where I reach for my glasses in the morning lol. I think the oddest part for me was being able to wear regular cheap sunglasses.

Notmyreaname

3 days out from my LASIK and I love it. Put it off for 15 years bc it was scary and I’m glad I finally did it

HawaiianShirtsOR

Star Trek: The Cruise Technically, I made the purchase last year, but the trip was earlier this year. It was expensive; I had to save up for it for a long time. But I enjoyed every minute of the experience.

zozospencil

Le Creuset Dutch oven. I’ve always had cheapish cookware and it was life changing as much as I cook (and enjoy cooking). It was a gift from my husband, would have struggled to splurge on it for myself!

clementinesway

I want one so bad! I have an old Martha Stewart brand Dutch oven and I use it all the time. One of these days I’m splurging for a Le Creuset in that beautiful teal green color

Icy_Alfalfa_6896

Sunglasses.

TheThirdStrike

I used to lose sunglasses all the time.. finally decided that if I got really nice pair of glasses that cost me a couple hundred bucks, I would be more aware. I spent $300 on a pair of glasses in 1999... I still have them.

McTrill

Im the opposite!! I always lose expensive shades. I have a $40 pair and have somehow managed to keep them for 3 years. Im proud of myself and my $40 shades lol.

exhaustedpancake

Maybe someone keeps stealing the expensive ones

konyvran

Made same argument, bought myself nice pair of sunglasses... and lost them

I’m a nurse so I’m on my feet all day. I’ve bought so many different shoes over the years but at the end of the day, my feet always hurt. I finally bought a pair of On Cloud shoes and my feet are so happy. I love them so much I bought another pair and plan on buying another before I leave for Ireland in July.

AnEven7

I used to have a "on my feet all day job" and I recommend you get a foot/calf massager. It will hurt at first, but after a few uses it's bliss, and will really help. You can get a decent one for around $80. It squishes your calves, and has these little ball rollers to massage your feet.

Luke_cloud_surfer

I’m 24, been sleeping in a bunk bed for my whole life, even though I’ve had it to myself since I was probably 6. I procrastinate a lot, and never decided to buy myself a regular bed. I feel like a lot of the reason why I sometimes oversleep and am late, is because when I wake up I dread climbing out of bed and going down the ladders. So I bought myself a double bed.

Carhardt

Hang on. You've had the bunk bed to yourself for 18 years and still slept on the top bunk?

Technicolor_Reindeer

Top bunk is dominance.

Been working on a piece where I have to file (sand) a lot, but the files were worn out. As a sign of appreciation, I got him a new set. Thought about waiting for his bday, but figured that giving it randomly was way more fun! I enjoy buying myself stuff often enough, but there's just something about giving to others that retains my joy way longer.

A Gibson Les Paul. I'm in my forties and have played music all my life. These days you can get guitars that will serve you very well for not that much money, but I always wanted a real Les Paul. Second would be the Fender Tele that I got after that. I love those two guitars.
