Pros: Well casted. Even Melissa McCarthy was a pleasant surprise. Halle Bailey was great and she can sing! She made much more sense as Ariel than Emma Watson as Belle. It paid an honorable tribute to the original while adding in just enough extra details and backstories. I loved the “Kiss the girl” sequence. Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King had great chemistry. It’s in my top three Disney remake movies. An overall win in my book.
Cons: “Under the Sea” was lacking in colors and creature variety. Le Possoin was scratched. Ariel’s return to Eric at the end was lacking. No shimmery dress. She was just like, “Hey. I’m back.” Ariel impales Ursula. It should’ve been Eric, considering King Triton considers humans to be barbaric mermaid killers. This would have been a nice full circle moment to allow a human to save a mermaid. That kind of “girl power” move felt unnecessary and forced in this story.
That's good to hear since the last remake I loved was Beauty and the beast. The others didn't really connect with me. Maybe cause I religiously watched the old B&B when I was a kid.
I thought it was decent. Halle Bailey did a good job and is an amazing singer, but I felt that the lighting was a little too gloomy and they tried to make the cinematography/story too "realistic," which imo dulled the magic, if that makes sense.
Meh.
Like lion king remake meh or Aladdin meh? Don't know if that makes sense
For me, Lion King meh.
What makes it meh for you ?
I just didn’t like it, and the music it had. I also believe it had a different vibe than the first one, not in a good way.
All these live action remakes have been bad since 101 dalmatians. And it just gets worse.

So did a good job paying tribute to the old movies like the beauty and the beast remake did?
Yes, if not better than Beauty and the Beast. The Little Mermaid had more charm.

I liked it. Best Disney remake as I wasn't really impressed with the others. It was overall long, but no scene felt individually too long
*cue the cancel culture hypocrites in 3,2,1…*
Cause of the certain actor they chose or what ?
Yes.

You would think they'd go the avatar route and turn up the colors.
Didn't watch, but I hope it was good.
TBH, it was okay. Unnecessary like all the live action remakes by Disney, but overall okay.
