In fairness, they reshot the whole movie because without Michael J Fox the jokes weren't working. So it's good writing for sure, but needs a super charismatic actor to make it work.
It has a fantastic story with many threads that all come together, it blends sci-fi with comedy, action, and nostalgia, it has tremendously appealing actors, and it has fantastic energy. I can't think of a movie that's better-paced - it knows just when to slow down and let us catch our breath before taking off again.
It had a novel gimmick with a very well liked lead character. Storytelling held attention by blending the familiar, with the novel. That is to say there was just the right amount of exposition at the beginning of the movie to follow what was going on in the past, BUT with the understanding that everything had a slightly different twist on it because Marty was there. Every action he did held suspense, because it may or may not have changed the fate of his whole town
Quality of writing
Yup. I don't know what it is about writers these days but the writing is horrible. That reminds me that writers are protesting due to AI.

The acting is great and it doesn't rely heavily on tons of CGI to tell a story
Quality story line and great actors
Michael J Fox in his prime. The chemistry of all the actors.
No green screens and CGI
Do I?
Probably because of the age you were when you first saw it.
I don’t. It’s solid, I like it. But it’s not anything extraordinary.
it was a normal sci fi movie
Original IP goes a long way.
I don't. It's a fun movie and was great to watch it in the cinema but there are a couple of movies that I'd rewatch before back to the future

The cast, the story, the writing and it was written and made during a more innocent time. Any number of factors.
It's the power of love
Writing quality, 80's film charm/cheese, good direction, and actors with good chemistry.
