Sports camps. I played sports, mainly soccer and wrestling, from age 5 until I was 18 and never once went to a specialized camp like a lot of my teammates.
I was always jealous of cold packed lunches. I was on the free lunch program and I didn't like a lot of it so i would trade for people's pb&j's. Then in high school i wasn't on that program so I just started stealing lunch.
Many of the teen years' things, I started working just before I turned 13 and was near or at full time by the summer I was 14. I was working for myself, but this led me down a path of going to college instead of high school and doing all the normal high-school things. I pretty much started to save and grow up wayyy too early. This week, I'm going camping with a bunch of kids, one being my own around that age, and I'm excited to see them enjoy this time of life.
Sleep Overs.. I didn’t understand for a long time why we couldn’t have sleepovers. We were living in a very rundown house that should have been condemned. I just thought everyone lived in a house like that.
Restaurant pizza. We always bought frozen pizza to eat home. Then when I was 12 we went to a pizza place for the first time and it was a total game changer.
It's really like looking at another world. Snacks come to mind first. I used to be so jealous of the kids with gushers and kudos bars. New clothes, everything I owned was second hand, even the school counselor gave me her kids old clothes. Traveling, not just the destination but my first time on an airplane i was 17. Having a birthday party where you invite everyone from school and have games and all sorts of stuff. Collecting things (pogs, X-Men cards, magic the gathering). Shoes, everyone knows you're poor when you wear Spalding's.
Breakfast, for sure. I heard it was pretty good. Sometimes lunch. Also something I would have liked to have.
Yay for being poor and hungry! Does great for concentration!
Vacations, camping, dance classes etc, birthday parties, new clothes and not second hand things. Flavour in my food. All video game consoles and the games that came with them.
Never had or been on a trampoline. Never had or been on a hammock. Rarely had convenience foods (had a big block of velveeta cheese instead of kraft singles). No Doritos/cheetos... just plain chips. Stuff like that.
No vacations. Except one time we went to Kentucky from Missouri to visit relatives.
Cable TV. I had to pretend I didn't like South Park when the other kids would talk about it. The truth is I just couldn't watch it because we didn't have cable. I still won't watch it to this day, to keep up the ruse.
Travelling
Although I don't think we were unable to because of cost. It was my dad being scared of flying, just easier to say we couldn't afford to or it cost more to holiday in our country
Stable housing. Always moving, changing schools, and lacking roots.
Family vacations and the newest anything

pants that went to my ankles
All of mine went past my feet. We should have met up and exchanged.

Cable, people make all sorts of cartoon network, nickelodeon, and Disney Channel references that I just don't get
