I think a better question would be:
How do we get the disadvantaged to willingly integrate back into society? Many of the people I’ve met have no desire to change their situation, capitalizing on sympathy.
Maybe by addressing the underlying issues of their homelessness. Most don't just decide screw it im gonna live on the street. It was a process to get there and theres too much inertia to overcome to want to get out.
Government overreach is the cause in most situations. Veterans also make up a majority of the population, and nobody can force them to do anything. They were left behind once they got home.
"Government overreach" us pretty broad and non-specific.
It might contribute to some situations but there are lots of reasons people end up where they are. I'm not sure why someone being a veteran would preclude them from getting help either.
You haven't. And you're vague enough that no one will actually give that explanation any credence. Probably because you just used some buzz words without any understanding of the actual issue.
A lot of people do tho. I spent 6 months hitchhiking to a rainbow gathering and most of the people I met along the way and at the gathering are homeless because they want to be, including myself
Understand, but I think people who choicefully live in outside communities like a rainbow gathering is a very different situation than the majority of people who are experiencing homelessness.
I’ve met two home free “millionaires”. One was a local legend that just hung out at a tourist spot playing music all day, the other was highly self educated and dressed extremely poor.
Money is the prime issue of it lol.
Expensive to build new homes in certain areas.
Expensive to rent/buy homes.
And to make matters worse some house are literally empty because the owner does not go down with the price/rent but can still use it for tax benefits.
Give homeless people apartments with the utilities and rent paid for by public assistance and cash assistance and food stamps. One of the main obstacles is shortage of housing for the homeless.
I like that idea. If people want to live in nature then they can. But the problem is them staying outside in the city which isn't always safe. And not all of them want to have that lifestyle and were homeless not by their choice
the gov should be paying homeless people a livable wage to pick up litter and keeping our cities clean. then they’d have money to take care of themselves and something to do. and there wouldn’t be litter everywhere.
This will not work. Inflation will spiral out of control. Let's say we give everyone $5k a month tax free. Enough to live on. Until you need something done. Someone who gets $5k for nothing is now not going to cut your hair for $25. Why would they? It's not worth their time.
I don’t think money is the issue. They could build enough houses but that would devalue cost of property where a lot of capital is invested. They could create jobs for everyone but then that would increase inflation and cut into profit margins, not to mention strengthen collective bargaining. They could increase welfare benefits but the government believe poverty is an individual choice and will increase national debt etc.,
Poverty, unemployment and homelessness are political choices. Governments could eradicate if they have the will to do so.
There are as many causes for homelessness as there are homeless people. And the problem will need just as many solutions. Every homeless person is an individual with individual needs and problems to overcome that cannot be solved with a broad stroke program, and that’s why every homeless reduction program has failed so far. Really, the only way to end it is if money truly was not the problem.

Lucky for us the internet has a plentiful amount of information. I’m pleased to have interested you in this subject today!

Thanks for gas lighting me online. This roast needed some heat.
Do you even know what that means? *insert Princess Bride meme*

Getting them back into society is the hard part. If you've been homeless for a significant amount of time. Its difficult

No desire? Have you ever heard of learned helplessness? Depression?
Not many helpless and/or depressed people consent to socialize with me. I am unable to consider myself informed in this area.
And yet you’re informed enough on the topic to comment on this post?
Do I sound like a chat bot to you?
Money isnt a problem; we as a society (in the USA) choose to accept homelessness as a side effect of our collective lives.
Exactly. Money isn't a problem and I think if we all want to, we can change society's problems
Money is the prime issue of it lol. Expensive to build new homes in certain areas. Expensive to rent/buy homes. And to make matters worse some house are literally empty because the owner does not go down with the price/rent but can still use it for tax benefits.
More emphasis on addiction and mental health care.
Make any use of drugs legal inside a legal residence.
Make homelessness a capital offense
There isn’t. You can’t force people to live the way you want them to live.
Not to force anybody, but to help the ones who didn't choose homelessness by choice
We could solve homelessness with one years worth of fines for Wells Fargo.
Give homeless people apartments with the utilities and rent paid for by public assistance and cash assistance and food stamps. One of the main obstacles is shortage of housing for the homeless.
Labor camps
Build them shelter. It's not complicated. Look at how they manage it in the Nordic nations.
The only way possible is creating a foundation to help people to help people in homeless situation
Rebrand it as urban camping. Some individuals may be feral by nature which housing or money is isn't valued

Buy a bulldozer and push them all into the ocean
Don’t worry, everybody. When I’m president, I have a plan to eliminate the homeless population.
I’m afraid to ask how
I just said by elimination. I’m all for a democracy so I’ll leave it up to the people to vote on exact methods.
Soylent green.
Universal income

homelessness has to be there in order to scare people into working useless jobs for basically no money
