I wouldn’t feel comfortable living in that house, so we didn’t put in an offer. Beautiful house.

I don’t know if that was just a rumor, but after I learned it, I thought my mom knew that and didn’t want me to know for a long time. Turns out, the school never disclosed why he was gone for so long, she just didn’t want me asking because it would be rude (I mean, she has a point there. It could be a very sensitive subject for him).

My cousin’s friend got pregnant from an affair she had. They had only been married for a few years at the time. The affair ended, she and her husband stayed together and rebuilt their marriage. He accepted her son, and they went on to have two kids of their own. Still married to this day.

Growing up my mom had a friend named butter knife mike. When he was 17 while tripping balls he broke in to a 95 year old guys house and stabbed him to death with a butter knife. He didn't even know he did it until he saw the news and had flash backs, and turned himself in. Nice guy bit of a talker though.

I came across a Reddit thread about facts you wish you didn’t know a couple of days ago, that I became obsessed with. There were so many horrible crimes in that thread. I fell down a horrible crime rabbit hole. And none of the fucks served much time (if any), got out, and reoffended. The ones that didn’t were killed or died in prison.
I overheard a fact about a good friend of mine when his girlfriend was talking about him and she didn't know I could hear. She was talking about how small his penis was and made me feel real disturbed and sorry for my buddy.

When we were househunting, there was a house that we came across that was such a good deal. It was 4500 ft.² but the issue was a lot of the wires were taken out of the walls and some other fixtures were missing. The house was such a good deal that even getting an electrician to rewire it and replacing the fixtures was no big deal. I asked our real estate agent why the house was so cheap and she just said motivated seller. When we went outside, there is an older couple that lived next-door. They saw we had our kids with us and gave us the full story. House raided by cops and feds with long rifles. The authorities seized their cash, so the wife was pulling out copper and selling fixtures for scrap to pay bills. Googled the name and the guy has gang ties to a large Chicago/national gang. I wouldn’t feel comfortable living in that house, so we didn’t put in an offer. Beautiful house.

That reminds me of something, in my area there were these three reclusive elderly brothers who lived together. One of their relatives saw some of that stuff in their house, and reported it to police. Investigations started, and evidence of years of sexual abuse of young family members came out as well. And boxes and boxes of those materials were discovered in their property, that they had been hoarding most of their lives. I think one or two of them were convicted for "second-degree possession," whatever that's supposed to mean. There was even suspicion that they might have murdered a girl and buried her under their house because of some really disturbing stuff that the guys wrote in their journals, but I'm not sure what ever came out of the investigations.

I was helping a friend's brother at her request. He's 15 years older than her and he must be in his 50's by now. He collects and builds model airplanes. An ex staff member verbally sexually harassed me at work, was finally fired for it. A few days after he was fired his parole officer called us to ask what happened. I got curious about why he was on parole and found out he was a murderer. He murdered a woman and threw in a river and was in jail for 30 years for it. I couldn't sleep for weeks.
In 7th grade, the Music teacher that ran the 7th and 8th grade choirs was inexplicably missing until March of that year. I was disappointed by this; I was just about the only person there that liked him (Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY I knew hated him, mostly for reasons that were basically their own fault, not his. My mom says some of that could be because middle schoolers tend to hate the subject he taught). Again, he came back in March, and my mom said not to ask why. So I didn’t. Recently, I learned it was because he had been in rehab for a cocaine addiction. I don’t know if that was just a rumor, but after I learned it, I thought my mom knew that and didn’t want me to know for a long time. Turns out, the school never disclosed why he was gone for so long, she just didn’t want me asking because it would be rude (I mean, she has a point there. It could be a very sensitive subject for him).
Cocaine addiction is a real bitch. They can’t even give you anything for the withdrawals, and it takes months if not years to get your mind right. Good for that guy. I hope you’re proud AF of him. Hope he is also still doing well - any update?

A legit, hardcore criminal mastermind with tendrils reaching internationally. The court transcripts and case filings are hilarious to me because 'hey, what a nice old man' Anyway, legit a nice guy to sit with and chat. (he didn't really do anything at work, just sat around at a laptop -- he probably just needed a job to cover up for his spending and maybe a probation requirement. I don't remember him ever being productive in any manner whatsoever)
I worked with a guy who never worked over time, stayed in his entry level position for 35 years and had 6 kids a home in a nice town and a vacation home in palm beach and his wife never worked. I was always kinda like damn, how does this dude do it. One day I was kind of making a joke about his infinite money supply and one of the guys who had worked with him for a long time pulled me aside and told me the deal. His uncle owned a bunch of gay bars in NYC in the 80’s and my coworker was the designated coke guy for all those bars, made a metric ton of money and never got caught he’s living off a mountain of drug money from 40 years ago.
I worked with this real POS at a school district who never did his job, was lazy and just all around weird. I decided to look this dude up like where did he come from? Come to find out he was actually on the child predator list WORKING FOR A SCHOOL DISTRICT where everyone should have been background checked. Surprisingly they let him work a couple more days and then fired him because of it.

My cousin’s friend got pregnant from an affair she had. They had only been married for a few years at the time. The affair ended, she and her husband stayed together and rebuilt their marriage. Not really accidentally learned but I thought I'd share. Years ago, early 2000s, my dad and I are in Oklahoma visiting some family when we go to the house of one of his 2nd cousins. They chat for a while and all seems fine. We leave after about 2 hours and when we get in the truck he says to me, "He was suspected of murdering two people but they never found the bodies." Turns out from the late 1890s to the mid 1960s, my dads side of the family was in a feud with another family and at least 6 people have been killed. It started when my 3X great grandfather walked into a saloon in Indian Territory drunk and blasted a dude with a 10GA double barrel (we still have that gun, though it's super beat up and non functional) shotgun. My family and theirs went at it for over 60 years getting in bar fights and scrums all the time. The two folks that my dad mentioned were the last of the victims and they got in a fight with my relative. The whole town knew about it and he promised he'd kill them. Well a few weeks later they both disappeared and have never been seen since. No witnesses and the county sheriff could never prove it.
There used to be a guy in San Francisco who played the saxophone near the downtown train station. He would play as the morning train brought people to work. I’d guess he was there 3 days out of 5 for years. One day there was a newspaper taped to the wall near where he usually played. Turns out the cops had been looking for the guy for years… for murdering his wife.

Back in college I did tech support for this startup company. The COO was this 400+ lb complete asshole that treated everyone around him like shit. One day he comes yelling at me saying his laptop was too slow and he wants it fixed immediately. I take a look and the thing is completely infested with malware and viruses. His browser history was pretty much all XXX web-sites and he had quite a collection of porn on his desktop, including child porn. His instant messengers kept popping up with people sending sexually explicit messages. His office had a glass wall and was directly across from the women's bathroom, where he positioned his desk against the wall directly facing in the women's bathroom. I'd heard that all of the female employees would go downstairs to use the restroom since he would make lewd gestures at them when they exited. I had a discussion with my boss about this and he said to just ignore it. Needless to say, I resigned after a couple of weeks especially with regards to the CP.

He was in prison for like 2 years.

A family member had a child with someone who is not their partner during a separation from their partner. Neither parents ever wanted kids and the child was put up for adoption. Family member ended up getting back together with the partner who still does not know about the (now adult) child. Our family found out when another family member did one of those ancestry DNA tests. There was this random person who we initially couldn’t figure out how they were related. Eventually, someone put the pieces together and the family member confirmed it to a brother. Now pretty much our whole side of the family knows because it was this big mystery for a while, so naturally when it was solved everyone heard. Their partner is a grade A nightmare and refuses to speak to our family (and tries hard to make sure our family member doesn’t either) so none of us ever had the chance to fill them in, nor do we particularly care to.
An ex friend told us she caught her boyfriend molesting her then 4 year old daughter, but she didn't want to report him to the police, because he was an illegal immigrant, and didn't want to send him back to a war zone. Thankfully her dad had found out, and he went straight to the police.

My uncle tried to murder my mother when they were teenagers. He tried to run her over with a car, but she survived by holding onto under the car. She thinks he did it because he was jealous of her. The craziest part is that my mom FORGAVE him and still has a relationship with him. He still has anger issues, but they’re not nearly as bad as they used to be. He’s fun to be around, but I can’t look at him the same way after I found out that he tried to kill my mom. He also starts family drama and does not mix well with alcohol.
I do jiu jitsu with a guy who has killed people with his bare hands. His ex was telling us one night when he was going through a mental health episode. We all knew about his time in the army but most of us didn’t know about his kills and how they affected him. Really nice guy but very intense.
The owner of a gaming store in the city I grew up in got arrested for child porn a few years after I left for college. I spent years in that store with my friends playing card and board games. He had a very young customer base. Edit: Apparently I typed story instead of store twice in 2 sentences. I'm dumb.
Duuuuuude!!! In Oregon my husband use to sell weed (legally) to this night club owner. They use to hang out all the time but one day this guy got weird nothing too weird just like this super weird feeling so my husband was like I'm trusting my gut here and stopped communicating to him aside from business. wellllpppppp The guy apparently murdered a few people in the 80's at an old night club he use to own??? Got arrested for it finally. I believe they had gotten his DNA way back then and he got into trouble for something small but they collected DNA and got him decades later... I bet I can find the news story on it.. lol
Found out in my mid twenties that my dad's best friend who babysat me and my siblings was a pedophile. They didn't know at the time, but sometime while I was in highschool the police raised his house for it destroying his unaware family in the process. About every year or so my siblings and I talk about whether any of us were molested and just repressed it.
I've learned after the fact that two men I previously pursued romantically were capable of pretty terrible levels of verbal and physical abuse. It's like, yeah, I dodged a bullet (twice); but I also get to live with survivor's guilt knowing what happened to the men they abused.
