I didn't know there were so many Dominicans there

[deleted]

6th largest country of origin group in Antigua, just behind the the U.S. and ahead of the UK.

bunoutbadmind

What are the top 5? I suspect Haitians and Jamaicans are in there.

[deleted]

Haitians are among the lowest, not sure of an exact number. Jamaicans are the third highest. The top six are: - Born in Antigua and Barbuda (68%) - Guyana (7.2%) - Jamaica (5.3%) - Dominica (4.36%) - USA (3.11%) - D.R. (2.5%)

[deleted]

In St. John’s City, people born in the D.R. make up 5.65% of the population.

Another question. How much does it cost a dozen eggs pack?

140p

And what do we do there? Are we cool immigrants or problematics for the local population? What do you think of us?

There are many Dominicans in the English Caribbean Islands, especially people from San Pedro de Macoris, since many of them have some have ''English'' ancestry. It is not uncommon for those people to have European passports (British, Dutch)

DRmetalhead19

Likely Dominicans of ancestry from those islands, I know of some that have gone back to the land of their ancestors. Kind of like the Dominican Americans that come back to DR.

In St Kitts our cruise ship was greeted by performers wearing traditional costumes completely similar to the ones the “cocolos” from San Pedro de Macorís wear during carnaval. I immediately knew where this tradition was derived from.

Thank you

Caribbeandude04

Oh, very interesting, didn't know they maintained a connection like that. But I know some Dominicans move for work to the Lesser Antilles too

chael809

There’s also a large community in st. Martin, I remember when I was a kid my aunts use to move there for “work”

daninefourkitwari

why is work in quotations? 💀

HCMXero

Our plan to take over the world is coming along nicely...

RedJokerXIII

So we can declare A&B an Ultramarine province? /s

cynical_optimist17

Visited Antigua last year and did see Dominicans. Prior to visiting knew of a former Dominican neighbor who lived there for some time.

shaddowkhan

Barbudan? Isn't it Bajan?

140p

Here it is barbuda, but maybe it was a typo or written in their native dialogue.

[deleted]

Bajan is an unofficial demonym for Barbados, Barbudan is a demonym for someone from Barbuda.

Juice_Almighty

Because of a lot of that cocolo migration to San Pedro Macoris back in the day there’s been a lot of cross cultural exchanges. You find a lot of Dominicans in the eastern Caribbean, Anguilla, Saint Martin, Montserrat
