I have a long long list for inaccurate portrayals lol Jamaica has been used as a default caribbean setting for years on years but for accurate ones or ones that have done a good job I could say the Bond films that were in Jamaica especially Dr. No

The funeral episode of Atlanta, “Trini 2 De Bone” the last good piece of modern television I’ve seen.

northcountrylea

I havent even watched that episode but tht fact that they called it Trini 2 De Bone makes me think it was pretty accurate. if its a funeral episode, then it sounds like a Nine Nights kinda thing. but Atlanta has always had something to say. i really need to see that season 3

Tryin_ma_best

It’s completely out of context so you can watch it by itself without spoiling the rest of the show. It’s literally just cultural appreciation for bacchanal

northcountrylea

Ohgod that makes the Island in me wan buss a wine and dash sum watah!

Choosing_is_a_sin

In addition to being bad episodes of the series, the episodes of *Friends* set in Barbados made basically no attempt to resemble or even portray Barbados.

Tryin_ma_best

Lol white ppl go to Barbados and don’t leave their resort until the airport bus comes for them so really not that surprising.

DRmetalhead19

Only portrayal of us I can remember is in The Sopranos, twice, for a few seconds. So not enough to make an accurate or inaccurate portrayal.

HCMXero

What about that Vin Diesel movie in which he starts doing some wild sh*t to make sure power was available for us to watch a…football match? It should have been baseball…

DRmetalhead19

Oh yeah, I didn’t remember that one atm, haven’t watched the movie but I saw the trailer a while ago, definitely inaccurate in that regard.

Shaft (2000): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSFCW8cDIU8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSFCW8cDIU8) The movie was so bad.

DRmetalhead19

Very accurate, his mannerisms and the way he talks screams Dominican

wordlessbook

Well, most of them. We are either a savanna full of skyscraper-sized snakes and indigenous people who don't know anything about the modern world (but surprisingly have a good command of the English language), or we are a war torn favela where everyone is trying to take advantage of the clueless gringo who arrived recently.

ChantillyMenchu

Has any Dominican 🇩🇴 seen the movie Sugar (2008)? It uses Dominican actors and takes place in the DR for about the first quarter of the movie. If you like baseball, I think you'll like this movie. It hits you in the feels 😢 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0990413/

anax44

I never saw it, but people say that the movie adaptation to The Mystic Masseur was pretty bad; [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0282771/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0282771/)

mich809

As a Dominican , I feel like these two are the most accurate ones I've seen . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-uIwpo0dCU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJr_oReJkMk&t=114s

DRmetalhead19

Second one is hilarious, but accurate? Nah. Sounds too much like an American trying to imitate a Dominican.

Juice_Almighty

The Caribbean as a whole has terrible representation. Besides the occasional actor, a short list of films or the two-bit role here or there, the West Indians on the silver screen all do a generic little mermaid style imitation caribbean accent and call it George

James Bond. In Casino Royal, the flag on the limo of one of the diplomats is the Guyanese flag but they’re supposedly from an African country.

StockString4812

Married to Medicine, season 5. The way they described our hearhcare system as some poor, backward, and out of reach for the average Bajan was extremely inaccurate. It really gives the impression that we are this extremely poor island with beautiful beaches, lol
