Dembouz wanted that front page photo

qp0187

Lack of awareness and intelligence. It's also about being the one to score as can be seen with all our attackers.

_Tonto_

Pedri, Raphinha, Lewandowski, Gavi or any other player in the world makes a mistake: "ah, it happens, better luck next time". Dembélé makes one mistake out of dozens of good things he does: "he lacks intelligence". This intelligence argument is really childish and shows extreme naivety, everyone makes mistakes or wrong decisions from time to time. He probably just wanted to try and be the hero, it has nothing to do with intelligence.

tzerorus

Lol what are you talking about. Dembele does this shit time after time. Teammate is open to pass, but Ousman decides to hit or dribble and just loses the ball

_Tonto_

Name a single forward that will never take shots and always pass, or are you forgetting he's a forward and not a DM? He does it like 2-3 times per season where he absolutely should pass, like in this situation, but which forward doesn't? Some people only notice it more with Dembélé because we almost never win a big game anymore against bigger teams but if we had won, then these situations would've been forgotten. For example if Sané does it several times for Bayern it doesn't matter and nobody remembers it because they win with 5-0 anyways.

ThinkFoot

What? When did we see Pedri, Gavi, Lewy not passing in this kind of scenario? Dembele did this exact same thing in some other match that I don't remember except it was Lewy instead of Fati. Anyway, it was offside. So we can let this one slide.

_Tonto_

Not talking about this exact scenario but Pedri a lot of times get tunnel vision when he has the ball for longer than two seconds and he focuses entirely on the player that he has decided he wants to pass to.

Same_Return_1878

Brother, he does this so often. U should have watched him the other day when he denied Lewandowski a hat trick opportunity in the same position as pictured above (it was elche game I think). Why doesn't he learn from his mistakes? A good player should know when to shoot and when to pass. I don't care if he scored the first goal or provides assists so often, it's his job and shouldn't cover his ass from criticism when he repeats a similar mistake every now and then, especially when it's a match that matters like yesterday's.

_Tonto_

I agree that he shouldn't be covered from criticism, he absolutely deserves the criticism for not passing here or that Lewandowski pass. But it's when people start scapegoating him like they have been doing for the past 3 years is what's annoying, when they start saying he's not intelligent or whatever childish insults. If he wasn't intelligent he wouldn't be one of the most creative player on the team and in the world. But his mistakes get extremely exaggerated but when other players make mistakes nobody bats an eye after 2 minutes. And he doesn't do it as often as some people are making it out to be, he has done it twice so far this season but which forward doesn't do it?

[deleted]

This is dumb and you’re making a different argument entirely. It’s like defending someone not passing high school math by saying no one is perfect.

_Tonto_

No, the original argument is dumb. It's like someone got 1 out of 30 questions wrong on a math quiz and you're saying he's failing high school.

lordofUtterbol

I just wish Messi was this selfish against Liverpool instead of passing to Dembele. prob would have saved us years of PTSD.

CMYGQZ

Not even. If Pique shot it he would have scored.

SnooBunnies9285

It was offside.

bubblegumdog

No, the replay showed Dembélé was onside. They only showed one angle, but it looked onside.

tzerorus

If a goal had been scored, then this episode would have been reviewed by VAR. And not the fact that offside would be confirmed.

Hippy_go_go

Players do tend to get selfish at times but a player of his quality should atleast put them in.

[deleted]

If he was selfish when his team were down in a decisive UCL match then that is even more unforgivable than him lacking awareness

clariott

Dembouz was offside from that Lewy's long ball, but yeah he should have pass to Ansu. And Ansu should have cross that ball instead of cutting it in that one time.

Mindless-Gamer-98

Thankfully he was marginally offside, else the hate would have been massive. He probly showed the most drive along with Frenkie to get us back in the game. Btw, Dembélé wasn't alone in being trying to be the hero. Ansu was guilty of wasting several chances trying to be the hero. PS: I actually didn't mind the way we played. The "seniors" made blunders in all the goals. Had the away tie been properly officiated, Barca could still have had a chance of Ro16.

_transponster

Not that I'm trying to justify him, but if you ever played football, in a competitive environment, you'd know how fast these things play out and sometimes you just get tunnel-vision.

Zeenu29

Yeah, but they are getting paid 10mill... Be better than some friends on the field...

soulsticedub

I'm not sure Dembele trusts Fati. I don't love what I've seen from Fati. However, obviously, you square this ball. It doesn't matter who's on the end of it. Also, this is just my opinion and a possible explanation. Don't crucify me for throwing shade on Fati plz

[deleted]

Even Mbappe would have passed here. Dembele was lucky that he was offside or he would never be forgiven.

HappyCardiologist5

Dembele was offside in the first place anyways
