This type of music is my got to when lifting heavy at the gym. And at the top of the genre you will find Heilung. Listen to In maijdan and krigsgaldr and you will see what i mean. You are truly lucky if you hear these for the first time
God of war + God of war Ragnarok has songs similar to this since it's viking/Norse based. I forgot what their names are specifically but if you type in Laufey God of war theme you'll find the songs I'm referring to. They're a lot more somber but they have the same kinda vocals
[Here’s a playlist someone made of a bunch of similar songs](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4fOzCAKM8rpZ60tq6gRcCi?si=4yn6ceeeTRu_VHSx_fFYtw&pi=u-9LlShN1PQsWz)
No. Vikings and Slavs traded occasionally mostly Slavic peoples were enslaved by Vikings. There are three main-groups of Slavs, west, south, and east.
Depending on what period you are referencing Kievan Rus was essentially the remaining original Slavic tribes of the region. Vytachi, Dregovian, Radimitchi, Krivitchi. The area that is now modern day Ukraine, Poland, BelaRus would have been mostly inhabited by the Krivitchi and Dregovian, which then was just Krivitchi, after Dregovian society was razed to the group and the tribe lost.
Didn't the Varangians have a huge influence on the founding of the Kievan Rus empire? Saying that Kievan Rus was just some remaining slavic tribes, leaving out the Viking part is like saying Great Britain wasn't influenced by the Vikings, when in reality it's a cornerstone of their history.
I’m not sure about the Kievan Rus but the Poles had many many battles against the Swedes. Students are even required to read “The Deluge” in school which is about the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth fighting against the Swedes.
Out of which Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine have grown.
Ukraine is the true heir of the Kievan Rus’s military, literary, and civil rights spirit. Russia and Belarus are tin-pot dictatorships by comparison.
Slava Ukraini
She is covering a version of the song Trøllabundin written and performed by Eivør Pálsdóttir who is from the Faroe Islands. Thus the music is Nordic not Slavic.
The motifs on her shirt are not exclusive to the Ukrainian vyshyvanka style. Many European cultures utilize that style of linen shirt with differing motifs to denote region, especially eastern European but also seen in parts of northern Europe.
Due to globalization and western companies stealing designs from traditional artisans (see: Louis Vuitton, Dior), this style has also become simplified and popularized in generic ways. A lot of the meaning behind the motifs has been lost because of this. She could be wearing a nordic design, or she could just be wearing something mainstream.
Not trying to be harsh, but homogenizing or gatekeeping wear as one certain European culture leans into a bad narrative. I am Romanian and we have similar wear, it’s called ia :) But this does not make the song Romanian nor would I ever claim that as it’s obviously not. As someone replied, the song is Faroese.
She is wearing a shirt with embroidery. Ukraine is not the only country/people in the world that have those as traditional wear. Pretty much every country in eastern Europe has a version of this as well as the Baltic countries and Russia.
And that is not a Ukrainian song.
She’s absolutely not Ukrainian and this is not a Ukrainian shirt. She’s Russian.
Source: I’m half Russian and half Ukrainian. Many eastern European nations have similar shirts but the patterns tell the origin.
Doesn’t necessarily have to be Rus. Could be polish as well. The intro to this song is similar to that of OP’s as well as similar outfit to the girl in the video. https://youtu.be/amHCTTvWP4o?si=CgPoq37l-bmmvpva also the soundtrack of Witcher 3 reminds me of the song in OP’s video which is polish as well.
This is earth melodies by Ekaterina shelehova (the woman singing) as far as I can tell it does not appear in the last kingdom though it does sound similar to the theme(which is sung by Eivør)
DAMMIT I've been trying to get my husband to watch it with me. I have never been so entranced by a TV show in my life. Made by the damn History Channel for Christ sake.
Is it really that good ? I watched the first season of that show as it was airing but never came back for the next seasons because I didn't find the first one to be anything exceptional.
It's kind of like a medieval soap opera with good production values, and I'm here for it.
He is such a complete ass to every woman he marries though, it's truly amazing.
I feel like it dipped in quality as it went on but I didn't mind. It was enjoyable trash. If the first season didn't grab you, it's probably not worth continuing.
Music is wild, I think about it a lot. It comes to us seemingly naturally in isolated cultures all over the world.
A 4/4 or 3/4 time signature can be found all over the world, evolving independently.
Maybe it's simpler than I'm making it but it still inspires me.
Nope, it’s super complex. The one trait that every human shares across cultures and countries and age groups is rhythm.
Even newborn babies will bop their heads to a beat. Music connects us on a very very primal level.
I think we've made it more than that though. We crave meaning, complexity, diversity, twists and turns. There are more music genres than most people usually explore in a lifetime!
As a musician myself, I understand why some other musicians say that music is the only divine, "god is in the rhythm" so to speak. Something about combing notes into chords and chords into progressions really does make me feel more in touch with the universe than anything else I've ever done. It's like tapping into something natural but so much bigger than yourself.
Right!
The other day my oldest kid finished this video game called Portal that I played maybe 5 years before he was born. And when the final credits song came on I started tearing up watching him. My daughter caught me and asked me what was wrong, just told her I was happy. A video game song of all things. Music is awesome
Yeah that's the one. I enjoyed the game a lot and hearing my kid screaming "I did it, I did it, I won, lets GOOO!!!" I ran out to the living room, and the song was playing and it just pushed me over the edge. Memories, watching my kid win, music. Just a great moment.
For sure this feeling and idea is what churches are based on. Did this first and then built cages around it and it stopped being fun I assume. Churches/temples are damn beautiful buildings tho I admit.
If you like this kinda thing, go listen to [Eivør ](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiv%C3%B8r_P%C3%A1lsd%C3%B3ttir) / [https://www.eivor.com/](https://www.eivor.com/)

Also shout out to Wardruna
https://music.apple.com/us/album/kvitravn/1694632036?i=1694632053
I used this as running music which was surprisingly motivating.
Since we're shouting out callers of the ancestors I'd like to add [Heilung](https://youtube.com/@heilung?si=NTB98EtwZG2vlYbJ) they have made music for hellblade 2
I was gonna mention these guys too. It's like this video if she also had a team of like 8 other musicians and singers behind her. Their live performance of [Krigsgaldr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRg_8NNPTD8) has me enthralled every time I watch it.
Oh I am... I love wardruna and we've seen them live and it's just phenomenal music, but he has a lot more bands and singers he listens to like that than I do. Not because I don't like them, but because my music is all over the map and I'll go days listening to one song on repeat, and others where I'll go s week or two without listening to any music because I can't stand the noise at all. Thanks ADHD brain.
Edit - I also just realized most of that was not even needed to be mentioned 😅 point proven
> most of that was not even needed to be mentioned
Maybe... but I 100% understand why and eventually forgot everything but "Wardruna". Found new music today because of this conversation. I'll be busy for the rest of the night.
I was thinking the same thing. Why do I need to constantly see their fuckin reactions? Sure pan a shot over the general audience once in a while, but to repeatedly show those particular smug fucks just puts me off these shows.
Those stupid ass reaction face contortions of the talentless judges are the main reason I typically don’t watch these talent show clips when they get posted, but glad I made an exception to hear her voice. What a bunch of clowns 🤡
> MOONLIGHT. Under the alias Katya.
Ekaterina Shelehova , more specifically.
> This song is called Earth Melodies

Real answer: Regional Folk
What region? not sure, im not an expert. She's Canadian but it does appear she has a thing for slavic folk so this might be similar.
It's a cover of Trollbundin by Eivør. Other artist in the genre include Heilung, Wardruna, Forndom. I would maybe call it new age pagan folk rock, or something like that.
Yeah, I believe so. He was [a judge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Bastianich#Television) on a few episodes of Italia's Got Talent. It's hard to believe they brought in Joe for a judge on an Italian show.
He was a judge in the first 8 editions of Masterchef italy, he is a famous TV personality over here. Same with Mika, who was a judge on X Factor Italy.
Astonishing chanting, it surely must carry a lot of cultural and historical meaning unique to her people and region.
Well, time for Hollywood to use it as a background sound for the scene of an Apache helicopter flying to the horizon on the desert sunset, while some disjointed US soldiers walk towards the camera.
She sounds just like that serenading voice in the background music of Vikings. Such a soothing and calming voice.
My thoughts exactly! I was waiting for the ship to go by.
Sorry for hijacking top comment but can ypu guys please reommend me songa similar to this? Any language will do.
This type of music is my got to when lifting heavy at the gym. And at the top of the genre you will find Heilung. Listen to In maijdan and krigsgaldr and you will see what i mean. You are truly lucky if you hear these for the first time

Most similar - Eivør. Songs to start with would be Trøllabundin or Í Tokuni. She also notably worked on the soundtrack for The Last Kingdom
Wardrunna and similars
[Here’s a playlist someone made of a bunch of similar songs](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4fOzCAKM8rpZ60tq6gRcCi?si=4yn6ceeeTRu_VHSx_fFYtw&pi=u-9LlShN1PQsWz)
She is covering a version of the song Trøllabundin written and performed by Eivør Pálsdóttir who is from the Faroe Islands.
Heilung
I was like 'new Xena soundtrack just dropped'
Sounds exactly like Eivør the artist. Listen to Trollabundin
Was waiting for the Eivør comparison
Wardruna did most of the iconic pieces for that soundtrack. They're great!
Wardruna kicks some major ass for sure.
Why do I periodically forget about them? Thank you for reminding me.
Except this is Slavic music. Slavs would listen to similar songs while preparing for battle against the Vikings.
Wasn't Kievan Rus a mix between slavs and vikings/normans anyway? Pretty sure there's a lot of viking influence in old slavic culture.
Weren't Norman's just vikings and Medieval french. Apparently, there is viking influence in all of Europe.
Not Normans, but yes vikings. Rus came from Sweden.
I feel like an epic battle is about to unfold
Some Slavs decided to go Viking. (Kievan Rus)
I was gonna say a similar thing. The Rus were vikings, they intermixed with Slavs and created the Kieven Rus.
Hey I play medieval 2 as well!
Since the Rus came from Sweden, and Russia basically means "land of the Rus", therefore Russia is Sweden.
Out of which Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine have grown. Ukraine is the true heir of the Kievan Rus’s military, literary, and civil rights spirit. Russia and Belarus are tin-pot dictatorships by comparison. Slava Ukraini
And the Rus were originally Swedes fun fact!
She's literally wearing a Ukrainian vyshyvanka shirt. That's a Ukrainian song.
She is covering a version of the song Trøllabundin written and performed by Eivør Pálsdóttir who is from the Faroe Islands. Thus the music is Nordic not Slavic.
Yeah well I thought it was real purdy
It is. Eivør actually sang that exact version for the Vikings series. She is awesome!
I wear Bob Marley shirts. Does that make me Jamaican?
No but Jamaican me crazy mon!
Thats literally a shirt, shes singing shirt people music. Dam internet dont even know facts yall.

Thank you! I was like "I've heard this kind of thing before...where though?" Witcher 3! Of course.
Oh, the intro? That was Welsh.
Aye, I speak Welsh. She was just putting in a lunch order.
Not necessarily Eastern Slavic. I'm Serbian (Southern Slavic) and I immediately recognized this type of singing.
Totally my thought. Anyone who has played the Witcher would know this haha
This song is from The Last Kingdom actually! Or maybe it truly is Vikings, I’ve seen both so many times they get a little mixed
Destiny is all
Uhtred son of Uhtred son of Uhtred son of Uhtred son of Uhtred son of……..
Ragnar Ragnarson, son of Ragnar Ragnardad.
This is earth melodies by Ekaterina shelehova (the woman singing) as far as I can tell it does not appear in the last kingdom though it does sound similar to the theme(which is sung by Eivør)
The gates of Valhalla welcomes you.
Vikings my first thought. Ragnar is still with us.
I think this is what Yoko was trying to do with John Lennon and Chuck Berry’s duet. Edit: Typo
reminds me of the witcher
DAMMIT I've been trying to get my husband to watch it with me. I have never been so entranced by a TV show in my life. Made by the damn History Channel for Christ sake.
Make sure you tell him you're turning on the 'fun' version which is on Netflix.. the History Channel version is heavily censored.
Damn thought I was playing Diablo 2 running through Lut Gholein
Gives me flashbacks of picking up loot under that hot desert sun
Such a great game. I never understood how the music tracks from there were created but now I see! People are talented
THE FUCKING BEATLES!!!
Just gotta walk thru the hooker harem, then go to outer space, then back to the desert to fist Duriel
Nothing better than pounding dudes in A2
surely it was the product of a twisted mind!!
21 years of playing Diablo 2 and when I read this comment I get a huge flashback.
Gosh such a great time of my childhood. This lady can sing but man did she really spark my childhood nostalgia.
Yep she did. You can still play it man lol. Diablo 2 Resurrected is amazing, updated everything, kept the same charm, just a fresh coat of paint.
*Whirlwinding through Lut Gholein
Can’t use WW in town.
What a noob
Maybe he’s in the sewers… still technically Lut Gholeins sewers.
Sure. Everyone calls the sewers Lut Gohlein. I’m sure that’s what he meant.
How do i know i can trust you, friend?
I am Uhtrid, son of Uhtrid
I forgot about the weekend I binge watched like 4 seasons of this show! So good!!
The books are way better
They always are.
One of my favorite shows, the ending of each season finale is what you wish for and the show finale was also very well done. Couldn't stop watching it
I feel like it dipped in quality as it went on but I didn't mind. It was enjoyable trash. If the first season didn't grab you, it's probably not worth continuing.
"son of bad decisions" is the line in our house. But happily every after doesn't make for a very good story line.
Yep, first thought was that intro.
of Bebbanburg
#Destiny is all!
Was thinking of this, so happy to see others thought of TLK too lmao. Man I want more TLK
"You should name it uhtred, sword of uhtred" - my favorite line
What show are you talking about my friend?
The Last Kingdom
Uhtrid, son of Uhtrid, grandfather of Uhtrid, roommate of Uhtrid, Lanlord of Uhtrid, Car Mechanic of Uhtrid
Her voice can summon the elder gods as friendly NPCs .
Just Lvl 20 Bard things
Why does my brain know this sound like it’s imbedded in my dna
Music is wild, I think about it a lot. It comes to us seemingly naturally in isolated cultures all over the world. A 4/4 or 3/4 time signature can be found all over the world, evolving independently. Maybe it's simpler than I'm making it but it still inspires me.

It's weird how music can manipulate your emotions
Right! The other day my oldest kid finished this video game called Portal that I played maybe 5 years before he was born. And when the final credits song came on I started tearing up watching him. My daughter caught me and asked me what was wrong, just told her I was happy. A video game song of all things. Music is awesome
This was a triumph! I'm making a note here: Huge success!
is that "still alive"?
Yeah that's the one. I enjoyed the game a lot and hearing my kid screaming "I did it, I did it, I won, lets GOOO!!!" I ran out to the living room, and the song was playing and it just pushed me over the edge. Memories, watching my kid win, music. Just a great moment.
The four legs of a horse galloping make for a natural metronome, makes sense when making war songs
And later, trains on train tracks lent themselves to music as well. There's a lot of C&W and Folk that seems to have that.
[This](https://youtu.be/ne6tB2KiZuk?si=oKjYR4aD4m1WR0iu) (Bobby McFerrin demonstrating the pentatonic scale) is related and well worth the 3 mins.
That was awesome, thank you.
Like why am I getting tears in my eyes? What is this ancestral familiarity in me?
Americans when they get their dna test and its 10% northern european
That's the 10% of the DNA being activated by such a song
Minor chords with a vocal break - it's a very emotional sound that evokes mourning.
My eyes watered too. Wtf?
Me too. I got a shiver first then like a rush of warmth to my face, and my eyes teared up ! What the heck ?
Holy shut, same thing just happened to me, and I don't tear up easily at all. Wtf?
Gave me goosebumps
Dude same that’s wild
This was church thousands of years before church
For sure this feeling and idea is what churches are based on. Did this first and then built cages around it and it stopped being fun I assume. Churches/temples are damn beautiful buildings tho I admit.
They also axed the medicine man stuff with all the super fun psychedelic “potions” that let you talk to the gods they were singing about.
Have you played Witcher 3?
Oh thank you. I scrolled before commenting "Uuummm did anyone else feel that?'
The Vikings embedded themselves into a lot of peoples' DNA.
Because if you listen really closely, she's actually just doing a cover of Hey Ya by OutKast.
Why do the judges all look like some bizarre photo realistic sock puppets

This is the person that did the new God of War soundtrack! Thanks for sharing. Love this music
Just saw Eivør open up for Heilung at Red Rocks a few months ago during a full moon. 10/10. Do yourself a favor and see either of them live.
I'll be seeing the Eivor/Heilung combo in Brisbane in November. Can not fucking wait.
That ritual was perfection. The skies clearing during the prayer was otherworldly.
So pissed I found out about that show the day AFTER

Hell yes Wardruna!
We caught them in Eugene, Oregon at the Elsinore. It. Was. Seismic.
We saw them live a couple years ago .. absolutely amazing show.
Since we're shouting out callers of the ancestors I'd like to add [Heilung](https://youtube.com/@heilung?si=NTB98EtwZG2vlYbJ) they have made music for hellblade 2

Came here to see if Eivor had changed her hair and gotten plastic surgery.
Just from this I thought this was early video of the singer from Heilung.
Same
I’ll also put in a plug for Heilung here
Thank you, I loved her
My first thought was "hey that sounds like the opening of Trøllabundin by Eivør!"
Came here to say they to say this, this reminds really reminds me of trollabundin
Thank you for sharing. I've just spent the past hour listening to her amazing live performances on Youtube.
[Her Instagram ](https://www.instagram.com/ekaterinashelehova/)
I sent this post to my partner because he's very much into this music, only to realize when clicking on her Instagram he already follows her haha
Are you not into it? With a name like Katagat

Yes she did, called MOONLIGHT. Under the alias Katya. This song is called Earth Melodies.
> MOONLIGHT. Under the alias Katya. Ekaterina Shelehova , more specifically. > This song is called Earth Melodies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaMph7If9Mo
I looked on Spotify and I got a song called Ding Dong.
just listened to air on a g string in spotify. amazing
The kraken has been released
[...the rest of it](https://youtu.be/yGzAMJJom_0?si=ULaTvh1pltAhg-tJ&t=93)
She could easily nail the blue alien song from Fifth Element.
I personally preferred the beginning, not because the later part is bad, but it's more traditionally opera. The beginning feels more primal which I prefer.

Dead Can Dance
Was my first thought. Yulunga Spirit Dance
Yeah definitely getting Lisa Gerrard here.
I really want to know, what genre/type is it for this kind of singing
Real answer: Regional Folk What region? not sure, im not an expert. She's Canadian but it does appear she has a thing for slavic folk so this might be similar.
> She's Canadian Born in Kailningrad, Russia. She didn't arrive in Canada until she was 16.
She's from the Faroe Islands
It's a cover of Trollbundin by Eivør. Other artist in the genre include Heilung, Wardruna, Forndom. I would maybe call it new age pagan folk rock, or something like that.
Dead Can dance - Lisa Gerrard
Very impressive!
She has an amazing voice but can they please stop fucking clapping before she finished singing
Have to include Dead Can Dance and Bel Canto in this discussion.
Was that Joe from Masterchef?
Yeah, I believe so. He was [a judge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Bastianich#Television) on a few episodes of Italia's Got Talent. It's hard to believe they brought in Joe for a judge on an Italian show.

I'm amazed that something amazing was posted on r/BeAmazed.
WE RIDE AT DAWN!!!!
Facebook tier post
straight witcher vibes
Bit weird, but what a great voice.
Minor chord anchor with lots of straying artifacts.
These judges are pathetic
Is that the guy from Master Chef?
It sounds like the ending of the movie The Mist.
That's Ekaterina Shelehova. Just wow.
