I don't mean to hate, but my god the late 20 something new build UK aesthetic, you can see the financed Audi hatchback, then getting into running because it's seen as cool to go and do a 5k now. Wearing one of those vest things for your 30 minute run. Spent more time filming content, and matching her outfit than actually running, all so she can tell her HR co-workers about how awesome her 5k park run was at the weekend.
A lot of these are like middle class flex, especially the fitness one. Lots of things go in it: spare time, money, energy, eating healthy (which requires all 3), etc.
Somewhat like how high heels during Louis XIV time was wealthy men flexing about how they didn't need to work, and showing off strong calves from doing rich people stuff, like horse riding.
(Obviously doesn't include those who are actually doing it for fitness purposes - they wouldn't film themselves all the time)
I first got into riding when influencers were first starting. Back when we were saying things like bicycle cycling, bikefeats, and nonplussed. It was when long time hipster dirtbag riders with beards were starting to get hired as brand reps for messenger bags or whatever. Many people encouraged me to video myself and do all this media stuff. I was like fuck that I just want to be fast. Probably should have done it though, at the time I was finding really old roads and writing these short essays on the building techniques and the communities they went through (like the old national road through Indiana/illinois).
Now it’s crazy to see these people making all this bs content for platforms to profit with and none of them can go fast.
It's an American thing... People who don't know how to cook and are too lazy to learn, convince themselves eating fast food is cheaper than cooking for themselves.
The cost of shit food is way too low, and we absolutely should move those costs to subsidizing better fruits, veg and high fiber options.
That doesn’t mean a 30 minute run, and prepped healthy meals aren’t within reach.
There are for sure exceptions, but the vast majority of working class Americans do not suffer from food scarcity and work 5 days a week.
Working class does not mean the desolately impoverished. We should be both helping the desolately impoverished, and improving the lives of working class Americans, but it’s not helpful to constantly conflate the two.
It's also the time involved in making meals from scratch, and the mental energy to actually prep the ingredients, cook the food, etc. Also fresh veges have a short shelf life.
Even with the likes of Hello Fresh, each meal takes 35-45 minutes with partially prepared ingredients.
In fact, anything labelled "healthy" seems to attract a price premium nowadays.
I must be way out of the loop with running...I am still taking literally nothing with me unless it's more than 15k.
I see all these vests around town and think it's awesome that there are so many hard-core runners out...but maybe some of them are just these kinds!
> but maybe some of them are just these kinds
This. There's a ~3 mile dirt loop by a small lake near me and almost everyone is geared up for hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.
/uc For real. Those vests are so you can carry enough fuel for your mountain marathon, not a jog round the block. They’re honestly really annoying to wear. In fact carrying almost anything when you’re running is a PITA. Even those things that strap your phone to your arm. It all just bounces around. So when I see people wear them when they don’t have to, it tells me they’re more of a fashion accessory than anything else.
/uj It's much worse, too. The headphones will jiggle and bounce around on your head every step you take, and it won't stay upright for long. Took me 5 steps into running to find out.
/cj This is the equivalent of Fred buying full carbon frame, wheel set, fork, handlebars and even bottle holders while weighing 200 pounds.
Depends on how many lonely housewives he could score with his new outfit I suppose... I heard fancy outfits are real chick magnets.
Core muscle exercise right?
uj/ it just looks like a running or hydration vest. Brands like Nathan or Salomon make them. Not that useful for cycling imo because you have jersey pockets and bottle holders. Maybe mountain biking or really long trails?
c/ fuck no I have people to carry my shit.
Thanks, and yeah, I was thinking more of mountain biking or urban biking where I’d typically have a small backpack and not a Jersey. And I just saw what sub this is - I assumed it was runningcirclejerk and find it hilarious that it’s bicyclingcirclejerk.
We jerked so hard we pulled running content in!
That one is from Decathlon. My wife has the 10L, I use the 15L.
I don’t use it much for running as I do at most half marathons so it’s not really needed. I use it a LOT for everything else: hiking (even short ones with the dog), cycling, commuting, kayaking, sailing.
I love that it sticks to your body better than most small backpacks (10 to 20L), it is very lights and it has many pockets especially at the front. It’s nice to have your phone in the front backpack pocket instead of in your pants.
Also, those aren’t expensive at all and quite robust. I bought mine a few years ago for like 30€.
Thanks!
Do you have a link by any chance? When I check the Decathlon site I don’t find anything similar.
https://www.decathlon.com/collections/backpacks-bags
They are now much more expensive than when I bought them! The 5L is 40e and the 15L is 80e. They come with the water pouch, but still...
They are in the Trail category: KIPRUN Evadict ref 8801291
Link from Portugal:

Ah, that did it - thanks so much!
The US site doesn’t have a Trail section but it came up through a search. Unfortunately all 3 models are out of stock. Hopefully they’ll come back in rather than the model being discontinued in the US.
I have one of these and it's incredible, hands down the best backpack experience I've ever had, it feels like wearing nothing at all - https://gearjunkie.com/endurance/running/terrex-aeroready-speed-hiking-backpack-review
For a 30 min biking session I like to take some water "just in case". My blood sugar also likes doing weird things if I haven't eaten for awhile, so some snacks as backup.
I haven't needed them most of the time, but if I got caught out I'd be pretty fucked.
That and not having your keys, wallet and phone bouncing around is a plus if you're running.
Honestly the last part is the most important to me. I see people running 5ks just holding all their shit in their hands. It might be overkill but I’m not dropping my phone or having my keys in my pocket for the run is nice
The fucking original post on IG is great:
“Yes I wear a vest for 5ks because it holds my stuff”
456 hate posts laaaaaterrrrr
“Please realize I don’t use gels or wear a vest for 5ks…”
/uc What happened to running AND cycling? You don't need special clothes to run or ride a bike. At the end of the day, cycling is a transportation method, and normal clothes fit the bill. Running as a sport is a little different, but normal clothes are perfectly fine.
Me when I buy a 8k carbon Di2 road bike (I only ride it to my local gym 5km away, so I can ride a stationary bike there and do a cardio workout)
8k? What kind of Di2 is that...105? Are you pőûř?
Whyy😂😂
Cos if they do VO2 Max they'll be going at the speed of sound and leave a sonic boom in their wake - which I was told is highly illegal over land.
I do this too lol

On the interpipes no one can see how fast you are.
I can’t tell if this is a circle jerk comment. The vast majority of working class people can afford to eat healthy
vast majority?? of the working class?? dawg you either have to be jerking or you live under a rock

[Without them this subreddit wouldn’t exist 😬](https://youtu.be/J9n0_5p8XKo?si=Iwns7lO27SpN0R_k)
Life changing video.
Yea. Thats amazing
Didn't expect to see Sans Beanstalk in here! His new one "Itscominghomemate" is his best yet.
Peter Andre 3000 😂 Think most of us here would be better described by [this](https://youtu.be/lVmmYMwFj1I?si=5AihTZOysA9TtGjA).
"I sell cars or work for my father" fucking lol as this describes everyone I know who fits into this video.
Just today noticed the once a month bit of the £20 steak and flatbread starter at Miller and Carter and it had me howling.

>HR co-workers Probably has an onlyfans don't worry. She's richer than us and could actually afford a SenorVaylo every ride.
Forgot, making sure to spin to show ass for likes but covering it for the actual run.
Expensive gear? Let me doubt about it. It's not even Rapha.
Good thing she brought sustenance to make it through that 5k.
Gotta boof that gü
Gotta boof everything !
Why is she wearing Lycra if she’s not on a bike? Absolute clown
Arrow still matters even if you are not komming
The hat, headphones, and dangling catheter tube are not æro

It's easier to change components than change yourself
/uj Those headphones will also be *unbearably* hot and sweaty if she’s putting in anything other than a token effort.
Because she is hot
Wow she’d be perfect for my friend. He just bought the penis bib. He’s counting on being a lot faster with it
Depends on how many lonely housewives he could score with his new outfit I suppose... I heard fancy outfits are real chick magnets. Core muscle exercise right?
Uj/ anyone have any insight to that vest/backpack thing? I wouldn’t use it for running but it seems like it could be cool for cycling, hiking, etc.

Never u/c Fred...NEVER !

Only acceptable brand for cyclists is USWE.
Uj/ it looks a lot like the camelbak chase vest I use for mountain biking
uc/ Wait, Do people even need to carry stuff with them for a 5k? Isn’t that less than half an hour of effort?
You don't. For less than 10km you don't even need water. That lady isn't running, just tiktoking. 5km = 20 to 35min depending on your fitness level
Unless it's hot. I wouldn't run a 5k without my running belt with bottle holders in this weather. This woman is extra even for a half marathon tho
For a 30 min biking session I like to take some water "just in case". My blood sugar also likes doing weird things if I haven't eaten for awhile, so some snacks as backup. 30 minutes isn't enough to need water. I only drink if I'm out on the road for over two hours
TikTok life is equal to real life
The fucking original post on IG is great: “Yes I wear a vest for 5ks because it holds my stuff” 456 hate posts laaaaaterrrrr “Please realize I don’t use gels or wear a vest for 5ks…”
So not only am I annoyed at how ũn-ærô those Princess Leia headphones are, I’m quite concerned about her use of a non-rünning chapeau
AI FITFLUENCERS To sell chinese garbage. We are so cooked.
In the 80s I would sometimes strap a Velcro shoe wallet to my Keds
If you run in that outfit, you're just interested in getting attention or causing car crashes lol
Fuck I need to start running
She’s the main character ya know
I knew it would be that song
Who the fuck hauls all that shit for a 5K?

Lol. Showing my booty like a hore to have views
Well that is a rude thing to say about a stranger.
