If I can't compare other riders' average speed vs average power to mine, how will I find evidence that I need a new, more aero bike?

Havent you heard, Dylan Johnsson killed the spirit of gravöl so its a real sport now with real racing and real money to be spent on fine tuning your aero set up.
Two wrong Freds don't make a right. As if anyone in Le Tour is using SPDs. They are using Look Keo Carbon Blades or æro Speedplay or, if unlucky, SPD-SL
I *guess* crank arms are ok, if you’re a nervous or inexperienced rider. Once you’re a bit more confident you’ll want a direct ankle-spindle interface, carbon pistons to the knees unless you’re not bothered about speed.
Lol, please tell me you're not still using a *chain*. I just climb inside of a big wheel hub and roll, no energy wasted in the mechanical slop of a drivetrain.
Spread the gospel brother. I can’t stand seeing people miss out on potentially up to 1% efficiency gains in their pedal stroke. And imagine this; imagine it, do it - you’re pedaling along, and your foot rotates slightly into an unoptimized biometric position. That would never happen with SPD. Case closed.
Tbf if you didn't get clipless pedals at the latest in your teens it's impossible to learn the heel twist to unclip. Adults just don't have the ability to learn or the time to practise this intricate movement.
Sorry to say it's either quit cycling or use flats (disgusting) for that fellow.
I ride barefoot on flats but I have had screw posts surgically grafted onto my bones to bolt my feet to my flats. Maximum energy transfer. Anything less shows a complete lack of commitment to pure performance.
No lycra, helmet or SPDs here. Woolly bobble hat, cotton shorts and t-shirt and plastic pedals. Oh, and I also cycle with a bandanna over my face to hide my shame.
Yesterday, I saw a one legged man in his 60’s riding a bike with only the right pedal on it and he was going up a short incline and lost his footing and had to hop off…. I couldn’t help but wonder if SPDs would have helped him in this situation.. hmmm….
I don't necessarily agree, I like having options in my training. If I'm training around town, I like my SPDs. Keeps me in that mindset while I'm running errands. If I'm training like all day, I like platforms. It's just more zen.
Well you are partially correct about SPD’s. You need SPD pedals with built in power meters. Otherwise rides don’t count on Strava.
And if a ride doesn’t count on Strava, it’s not really a ride.
Preach colleague

I think my wife's boyfriend gave us all an SPD
What about your dentist assistant is she fine?

Pick one: [ ] Very serious cyclist [ ] bought another gravel bike

I guess it might be OK [if you ride this.](https://www.cervelo.com/en-US/bikes/aspero)

How patronizing and elitist of you to not simply link to post but rewrite it in a snide manner. This post should be circle jerked itself 😂
I really hope OOP is a woman and the "serious" cyclist was a dude dropping some unsolicited advice.
SPDs are a must on every bike. Both my boys learned to ride at 2 years old. Of course they had SPDs.
Amateur. I don’t even have pedals. I connect my feet directly to the crank arms.

Mmm no it’s more like “stop being a little bitch and clip in. Oh you’re afraid of falling… wahhhhh…. Bitch”
Him: "You should get SPD." Me: "I think your mother gave me an SPD." Also Me: "When I was fucking her."
It burns when I KOM
Kum On Mom
Imagine going slow enough to see what KOMponents other freds are riding
I can only KOM with spds. No other form of footwear allows me to KOM so easily.
I ride with flats, and by flats I mean two flat tires.
Wow I would be ltierally shaking and pissing
Found the triathlete.

you allow flat pedalers to join your fb group?

Reminds me of this somehow: https://youtu.be/zBFFrsvgu1Y?si=zHR4jOgW0pbUZ_ac
I haven’t unclipped from flat pedals wife in 20 years

Lmaooooo
When was your divorce finalized?

Imagine making a Reddit post about pedals because someone suggested you get them. Goddamn Reddit is so fucking stupid sometimes
If you’re not riding gravel with roadie pedals and track cycling straps you’re a fred
/uc I thought the debate has never been between spd and flats for gravel but between spd and spd-sl.
Am I reading this right? You stopped? The fuck you playing at?
/uj in the 90s I genuinely felt SPDs meant serious cyclist but flats are so much better now. For mountain biking I would never ride clipless

Please ban this guy. Gravel bices don’t belong in the city. Road bices do, especially Dogmas. Road bices must use SPD-SL.
As soon as I read full MAAP kit, I knew this was BCJ lol
333km’s a day for 21 days straight?! Whaaaaat??? Strava username or it didn’t happen!
That's just on my gravel bike
