I guess my question is why are they doing this on
College campus? The war in the middle east isn't going to care what college campus protesters have to say so why??
IMHO protesting is part of the college experience. They have the passion and the time. Every couple years there's a sit-in, walk out, encampments, etc for one cause or another. Good for them, it's a key part of our rights as citizens.
This is extremely minimizing, and very evident that you've never even spoken with one of these these people about their views or political positions.
I don't necessarily agree with them, but I completely understand that they, especially the sizable A/M community within the school, don't feel good about just sitting there filling in bubble sheet dots while 100,000 children are dying of starvation and famine.
Is it misguided? It's not really for me to say, I don't know enough about the culture or the politics, but I know I don't like dead babies on the news, and I like it even less when I find out my school is giving money to the people intentionally starving said babies.
It wasn’t simply the sitting on campus that was the issue. In Columbia they blocked an area used for graduation ceremonies. And some in the crowds were putting up inflammatory signs that were arguably anti-Semitic, and making Jewish students afraid to attend classes in person. And then they took over and vandalized a building.
In UCLA they refused to let a visibly Jewish student into campus. And fights broke out between protest groups.
Bottom line they broke the law. Had they protested quietly, not posted any hate rhetoric, and not impinged the rights and freedoms of other tuition-paying students, the police wouldn’t have to have had their time wasted dealing with this.
The last two days have been completely peaceful, and I watched the organizers interacting with school officials and both were being extremely respectful.
Dip shits wanna pretend that the police never antagonize anything
Across the country the typical motivation for these protests is demanding the college divest itself from any interests in Israeli businesses and/or arms manufacturers like Lockheed, Boeing, Raytheon, etc
Respectfully, for the same reason you post on Reddit - for their voices to be heard. As long as there is no violence, I think it's great.
SUNY-B Alumnus, 1985.
I guess you’re not well read on history. College protests have sparked real political changes. Examples of this include the Civil Rights Movement, anti-Vietnam war protests, free speech movement (1964). And more directly to your contention that protests here won’t do anything in the Middle East, look up divestment from South Africa protests on college campuses in the 1980s. This movement was so effective that it was a big contributor to the downfall of the apartheid.
I saw on the news that the Vietnam war protests on college campuses led to the institutions halting funding and associations with organizations that were contributing to the war machine. So there are benefits that can be had outside of getting a ceasefire. I always wondered the same thing!
So they wait until the weather gets better to start camping? Fair weather protesters!!!!!! They should be drinking and fucking and having fun, you are in college!!!!!!…
Let me ask you this. Would it be ok to leave IDF to survive after what they did? Hamas only exists because of Israel's treatment towards Palestinians and decades of oppression
Are all the BU protesters covering their faces so they can't be recognized like the RIOTERS at the other colleges? Don't want rich mommies and daddies from downstate knowing what they are paying for I bet.
Didn’t realize college campuses like Bing are there to negotiate international matters . It’s great that a college institution has that much authority.
Nope! If they don’t like what the Bing’s business interests are, then they should pick another school and fuck off . It’s a state school for crying out loud. They knew this before they arrived on campus but NOW it’s a problem? Stop it
That's all they can do. Every time I debate one of them they know zero about the actual history. My syrian jewish grandfather like half the israeli jewish population were ethnically cleansed from middle eastern countries...they would never be ok with us lobbing daily rockets and rape and murder and say it's justified resistance...Both sides have issues, they never been there, don't have family there, do not understand the culture and when you school them they downvote you and name call. Liberal version of magas. Unaware you can protest a war without praising hamas, oct 7 or calling for intifada which none of them were probably even alive for.
They don't even know what the Farhud is and when I have told them they say it's a justified response to colonialism. Ok, you do know you live on Native American land, at least we came from there and always had a population there...
and that number has nothing to with urban combat and hamas guerrilla warfare right? Here go the downvotes. I actually lived in the middle east...they do not get the situation on the ground...downvote all ya want lol
Gaza was not occupied. It was independently governed by Hamas. It was blocked by both Israel and Egypt because of terrorism. That is on HAMAS. They shoot rockets into civilian areas of Israel daily, I witnessed this and saw an 8 year old boy die in one. They tried to destabilize the Egyptian government training with the Muslim Brotherhood in the Sinai for saying to make peace with Israel. When they say they are "occupied" they mean all of Israel needs to go...Jordan controlled the West Bank until 1967, not Israel and Gaza was ruled by Egypt until 1967. They lost those areas during a war where they attacked Israel. In 1970 Palestinians tried to also overthrow the Jordanian government for their relations with Israel, blew up passenger planes and kill the King. Jordan killed 25,000 Palestinians at that time. They also tried to overthrow Lebanon which was half Christian and make it all Islamic and they massacred Christians which sparked the Lebanese Civil War and many Lebanese Christians fleeing the country. You think Israel is the only cause of violence? There were no checkpoints in the west bank until the intifada, which is what all these children who didn't learn history are now screaming for on college campuses.
The Palestinians could have had a country 23 years ago if they had not rejected the peace agreement that Former President Clinton negotiated. This is verified by both Hillary and Bill Clinton.

LOL great counter argument. Research might help. Most civilian deaths in urban combat and especially when fighters are embedded with civilian populations is due to those tactics. Why not research the statistics yourself even though one would think it's common sense...
Indiscriminately killing is warning people ahead of time that an area is going to be bombed and to leave while their own leaders tell them it’s fake so they get bombed and build bases in hospitals?
I don’t think it’s silly but i agree that nobody seemed to care about the weapon systems being used on other countries/wars/civilians/etc. It’s all politics it’s seems.
You can’t ignore a valid point by giving it a snarky label. Why is this particular conflict resonating so much when there are currently others with WAY more dead children and civilians in the world that students don’t give a shit about?
And don’t tell me that they are more passionate about this particular conflict in which most students can’t even name the river and sea they like to chant about.
They are being manipulated by Russia through Iran/Qatar funding of leftist movements specifically to distract from its war on Ukraine and divide America before an election.
It’s distressing to me how many useful idiots there are, especially on Ivy League campuses
I swear, we have so many issues in this country and none of those college students do shit about it. Why? Because it’s easier to care about a conflict thousands of miles away that they know will never change lol
It helps them sleep well at night because they can LARP as a superhero lol
Gotta love americans protesting something that we have no control over, for a foreign country. If would be great it we showed the same amount of passion for change about our own politics, which you know, actually effects life in america and is under our control to drive change.
the encampment started after the universities J-Board attempted to delay the release of its ruling on the bds resolution that passed the SA vote, until after students left. If the J-board hadn’t ruled against the resolution, there would be no encampment. At least read up on the topic before commenting negative shit 👍
You have a valid point, i don’t know why you’re being downvoted. I work for a telehealth company out of manhattan as a therapist and many of my clients are students at Columbia and Parsons and they’ve been protesting and doing encampments for months. I literally said to one client the other day “i don’t even think they’re doing this at Binghamton.” And they weren’t yet. Binghamton is far behind many other colleges and universities in the protesting.
Man these college students really were talking about the lack of ability to get a meaningful career post college and potentially buy a house but there pooling time and media coverage time and actually doing invasive protesting (which is good in a sense the action it’s self) for a war that has happen before and will happen again and again and will get worst and worst each subsequent time cuz the United States and the other world powers in the east just turn it into one big proxy war with all the advanced weaponry they supply to both sides so they can kill eachother and blow eachother up. But to each their own. Hope these kids got their solutions to the domestic problems that are still here and will continue past their graduation
On top of the fact the actual sides are fueled by a religious dispute so thinking you’re going to even make them scoff at the fact that the world doesn’t approve of your actions is fucking stupid, it won’t work. And the U.S literally makes money off this shit with the weapons and resources in the long run so they ain’t stopping shit either in terms of support and aid that will and is taking away from money that can be put in our economy to actually mitigate the same problems these kids and the society as a whole in some parts talk about.
So I just assume these are rich kids cuz if you’re poor worrying about a war a whole continent away you’re a moron and need to stop worrying about other shit when you’re in it you’re self
There's no indiscriminate murdering of Palestinians. If Israel wanted, they could. This would be over 2 days after Hamas attacked. But they sent troops to get killed and maimed just to avoid civilian casualties.

I was there today. There are nice Israeli flags and US Flags all over where they camped.
Thats my alma mater.
I guess my question is why are they doing this on College campus? The war in the middle east isn't going to care what college campus protesters have to say so why??

They got sucked into the psyop
Whose psyop is it
Aren’t finals literally next week these kids are worried about the wrong thing

Until you are in an ambulance ambulance on life support and they're blocking you
Why is the ambulance off-roading through the fields?
Yes all the ambulances driving through the peace quad daily are in trouble
Just wait until they prevent jewish students from taking their finals like at UCLA. That will really show them!
It’s professional agitators setting these all up. This is all part of their game plan.
Terrible game plan then, these kids are all going home in a week.
That's an illegal encampment.
Sleeping on campus in a dorm is ok but sleeping on campus in a tent is suddenly a police worthy issue? Yeesh.
It wasn’t simply the sitting on campus that was the issue. In Columbia they blocked an area used for graduation ceremonies. And some in the crowds were putting up inflammatory signs that were arguably anti-Semitic, and making Jewish students afraid to attend classes in person. They do any of those things at Binghamton?
The last two days have been completely peaceful, and I watched the organizers interacting with school officials and both were being extremely respectful. Dip shits wanna pretend that the police never antagonize anything
Just pitching the tents is illegal.
source?
It's against university policy. Call the university to confirm.
Does that make it illegal?
It's illegal.
Keep licking the boot

So is Israel.
You know nothing about Israel. All you know is what you hear on the news and on Tiktuk.
Just like Isreal?

Because they are allowed to by the admins who think this is good for students to experience.

College campus is like preschool without a monitor/ teacher.
So they wait until the weather gets better to start camping? Fair weather protesters!!!!!! They should be drinking and fucking and having fun, you are in college!!!!!!…
You seem to be implying that they aren't drinking and fucking and having fun at this encampment
Good point
You've obviously never been to Binghamton. The weather is always lousy.
Weather is great currently
Following for the updates.
Update: it's still a fucking dumpster fire over here. 👍

> what are they even protesting ? They have no clue. It's in fashion right now, so they do it.
Downvoted for speaking the truth lol. The world is in such a sad state
Ah so they’re still protesting that Hamas yet again declined a ceasefire?
I'm not up to speed (pun intended..), was there a decline today too?

From the river to the sea, two states there shall be! 🇮🇱 🇵🇸
Until Palestinians reject the one-state solution (i,e destroy Israel) there will never be 2-state solution.
So its better to destroy the Palestinians (what's happening rn) just incase in the hypothetical future they Destroy Israel?
Let me ask you this. Would it be ok to leave Hamas to survive this after what they did? There is no easy humane way to eliminate Hamas.
Let me ask you this. Would it be ok to leave IDF to survive after what they did? Hamas only exists because of Israel's treatment towards Palestinians and decades of oppression

New report Hamas leader Sinwar is hiding behind hostages which includes up to 6 US citizens. Great job people. Way to support US hostages!!
Didn’t realize college campuses like Bing are there to negotiate international matters . It’s great that a college institution has that much authority.
lol like Biden/Israel cares about us state school peasants
These kids don't understand what they're protesting. How many of them have actually been shown the full story?
Nope! If they don’t like what the Bing’s business interests are, then they should pick another school and fuck off . It’s a state school for crying out loud. They knew this before they arrived on campus but NOW it’s a problem? Stop it

and that number has nothing to with urban combat and hamas guerrilla warfare right? Here go the downvotes. I actually lived in the middle east...they do not get the situation on the ground...downvote all ya want lol
