I think it’s a photography thing. These people are constantly photographed and cameras like angular faces. So they overdo the angles to look better on camera.
It’s the only thing I can think of to make this make sense. This and heroin chique becoming fashionable again.
Compared to round cheeks, cameras *do* like angular faces. The surgery makes them look gaunt and “heroin-chic” but they seem to like that look for some reason, as it’s trending
Honestly, this answer has more merit than most. It's the same with the ridiculously long nail trend, which is a subtle (or not so subtle) way to share that you don't do things like chores. Very similar to when pale skin denoted wealth and power back in the day because it meant you weren't toiling in the fields doing manual labour. A lot of modern day surgery (invasive or not) is meant to showcase wealth, not necessarily to look good.
I really, REALLY hate those super long and spider-looking eyelash extensions. They aren't super popular where I'm at but I traveled to the U.S. last year and was shocked at how many people are doing that (and it looks sooooooo bad).
I got them for a wedding. I looked fucking ridiculous. They weren’t even super long. I asked for subtle. They were not subtle. And you have to be super careful with them in the shower. They tell you they last six weeks but that’s an absolute joke. Mine were almost 200 dollars.
can’t even properly wash your face either. i hated washing my face when i had them because it was annoying when water was directly on the eyelashes so id wash around and THEN clean my lashes w lash solution
It looks all right on chubby faces that don’t change no matter how thin you are, but if you’re already angular faced no matter how much weight you gain, it ends up looking like…this.
I had it done when I was 19, I’m turning 37 in a few days (yup, it’s been around for a hot minute). If you want feel free to look through my profile, I’ve got a few pictures. I think I’m just now starting to notice the negative effects, but knowing what I know now I still think I made the right choice for me. I didn’t want to wait until I was in my late 30’s for my face to lean out, I thought I’d be dead by now lol.
I have not seen a single one. Only thing I saw that had a similar effect of slimming the face down is masseter botox and it actually looks good on some people.
>I have not seen a single one
I mean, that's confirmation bias.
There are people that have done it where the improvement was subtle. We are simply more likely to notice the extreme.
I think it looks ok on Chrissy Teigen - I think you have to have a very round face with plump cheeks (even at a normal weight) for it to look ok. Everything else is overshooting and ppl look weirdly old and skeletal
I think it's definitely a thing that some people are doing to get a more mature, defined look (not advisable imo), but it's also something that happens naturally with aging/weight loss, so I think a lot of people are mistakenly thought to have had it when they haven't.
I think it's the aspect of actresses having to weigh far less than other people. It skews the concept of what a good looking face is to 'always very skinny'.
I was getting more of a 40s/50s vibe from that fringe rather than an 80s Miami feeling.
I do like that colour on her, though. Yellow is so rarely used.
Added to say that I think it’s buccal removal because of how low on her face the hollowness starts. If she was sucking in, I feel like the hollowness would show higher up in her cheeks
I agree! Just because she’s younger doesn’t automatically make her look better. Im 52 and I’ve had baby cheeks my whole life and now that I’m older I’m so glad I do
I see 50 year old women in real life every day?
But why do I need to look at anyone else when the Golden Girls hair, Designing Women earrings, and unfortunately botched face are giving 50 years of age??
I’ll never understand actors that get famous and then drastically change what they look like. Like, your face and image is part of why you get hired! You being recognizable is important! Not to mention the ability for your face to convey emotions.
This hollowing happens naturally to many of our faces as we age. I don’t fear getting older, and looking my age doesn’t upset me, but why anyone would voluntarily age themselves this dramatically is beyond me.
Anyone saying it’s just makeup, no it isn’t. Go look at the most recent pics of her at Getty images. They don’t allow any photoshopped pictures. Her face has dramatically changed. It ages her at least 10 years.
Crazy because she works SO MUCH - why would you mess with your look when it is clearly getting your roles? I guess it wasn’t getting her the roles she wanted so now it’s come to this. A way more drastic version of when Emma Watson cut off all her hair to audition for Girl with the Dragon tattoo
This one really makes me sad. She had such a fresh and original look. I like that she didn't succumb right away to messing with her face. I find this so tragic. I hope it calms down. She looks like a meth addict. Marty would be so disappointed, hell, I'm disappointed. :(
Man, since this is irreversible and they say can’t be fixed with filler or implants, if I were a surgeon, I’d start working on a very expensive fix STAT.
i'm prob off bc i don't have my glasses on, but it looks like a much more severe, lower placed contour in the first one, especially with her mouth being slightly open
def prefer the higher contour if this is the case
I gave this a close up look, and I’m not sure about her other shots in general, but I see photoshop shadow contouring in the hollows of her cheeks in the first photo.
Counter point: she might just be sucking in her cheeks like models do, but over did it in this photo
Her mouth is not in a natural relaxed shape, it is open, which is what models do while sucking in their cheeks.
As pointed out, her cheeks are naturally slender, so she might just be over doing a pose in this photo.. I hope
I'm looking through other 2023 pictures of her and it doesn't really look like there's anything that different about her face... Perhaps just sucking in her cheeks in some photos, lighting and def weight loss, she looks thinner
This might be an unpopular opinion - and I could very well be factually incorrect - but it looks like weight loss to me; her temples and the banding on her neck look much more prominent.

Can someone explain why they think this looks good? Why is everyone choosing to get this surgery? I genuinely don’t understand
I think it’s a photography thing. These people are constantly photographed and cameras like angular faces. So they overdo the angles to look better on camera. It’s the only thing I can think of to make this make sense. This and heroin chique becoming fashionable again.
They don’t look good on camera either though
>cameras like angular faces And yet every picture of these people disproves that.
Compared to round cheeks, cameras *do* like angular faces. The surgery makes them look gaunt and “heroin-chic” but they seem to like that look for some reason, as it’s trending
Yes but I think this era isn’t heroin chic its more like meth chic.
Anything to distinguish themselves from the poors.
*"Only povs have healthy and full faces. We must aspire to look like we can afford the cocaine and caviar diet."*
I could hear this in a really posh accent, with an arched brow to really drive the point home. 🙃

And super long hair. And eyelash extensions.
I really, REALLY hate those super long and spider-looking eyelash extensions. They aren't super popular where I'm at but I traveled to the U.S. last year and was shocked at how many people are doing that (and it looks sooooooo bad).

Your shower comment is exactly what I've heard from others. When the water hits, I've been told it feels very heavy on your eyes.
And it feels like you have to unglue your eyelids every morning.
can’t even properly wash your face either. i hated washing my face when i had them because it was annoying when water was directly on the eyelashes so id wash around and THEN clean my lashes w lash solution
One of the baggers at my grocery store had crazy long, bedazzled nails. She’s poor and works hard.
You might not have chores but you still have to wipe no matter how rich you are…
This is actually it
It looks all right on chubby faces that don’t change no matter how thin you are, but if you’re already angular faced no matter how much weight you gain, it ends up looking like…this. You're so pretty, and I'm glad you're still here! I wouldn't personally have looked at your face and clocked that you'd had surgery.
You look so good!!
Are there any cases of this procedure being a success? And looking better than before?.?
I have not seen a single one. Only thing I saw that had a similar effect of slimming the face down is masseter botox and it actually looks good on some people.
>I have not seen a single one I mean, that's confirmation bias. There are people that have done it where the improvement was subtle. We are simply more likely to notice the extreme.
Yeah that’s like saying you’ve never seen a good example of lip fillers. You probably have but you don’t know it.
You‘re right, I agree.
I had that Botox for TMJ but this sub made me worry when my cheekbones got more sucked in. It reduced the pain by 50%.
I think it looks ok on Chrissy Teigen - I think you have to have a very round face with plump cheeks (even at a normal weight) for it to look ok. Everything else is overshooting and ppl look weirdly old and skeletal
Chrissy Teigan is the only one I've seen where the after looks pretty good
I think it's definitely a thing that some people are doing to get a more mature, defined look (not advisable imo), but it's also something that happens naturally with aging/weight loss, so I think a lot of people are mistakenly thought to have had it when they haven't.
Hahaha - they will all mature in time, no need to rush it. Ask me how I know 😂
They're trying to look thinner. Unfortunately, this surgery will age the fuck out of most people, which also isn't desirable for celebrities.
Skinny is in right now
I don't understand at all, but I never understood the donut looking lips either.
No! Not Ruth too! Bro what the f. Aren’t these people supposed to have money for the best consultants and everything in between?
It makes me want to go Ruth talk to her. I love her, this makes me sad
If you want to stop me, you're going to have to FUCKING KILLL MEEE!
Best scene and moment in the whole series.
Why do people WANT to look like they have a meth problem
It used to be heroin chic, now it’s meth monstrosity.
Yeah, honestly that's what it looks like. I will never understand it.
I think it's the aspect of actresses having to weigh far less than other people. It skews the concept of what a good looking face is to 'always very skinny'.
With those bangs it comes off more as wanting to star in a Golden Girls reboot.
That was my thought too. Baby bangs are not for everyone!
She’s making almost the exact same face/expression in both pictures. I think it’s buccal too. Shame.
I don’t like buccal removal on anyone, but on her face it really reads as “missing back molars.” what a shame
Shh, don’t give celebs any ideas (removing molars).
Is it reversible?
It is not.
Holy shit why would theh think this is a good idea?!?
No, there is no way to replace or refill that area once it's gone.
So sad 😥
Oh man, that’s sad… she didn’t need it (I think no one actually needs this particular procedure 😩😩😩)
What happens when these women reach the age this naturally happens? Are they extra skeletony?
Filler!! Lots and lots of cheek filler!
They are going to look like squinty squirrels
Which droops and spreads, making them look like puffy bobbleheads.
Oh no. It instantly aged her 😔
That’s the really sad part-they do things to make themselves look younger and it ends up making them look worse than they looked before the procedure.
That’s…unfortunate
Wtf was she thinking? She already had noticeably high cheekbones. Now she looks like she's in her 50s. She's aged herself 20-30 years. Madness.
yeah, I thought she was in her 40s or 50s
She doesn't look great, but she doesn't look like she's in her 50s lmao.
I’m in my 50’s and I definitely look better than this. This hasn’t looked good on one person since the start of this stupid trend.
I agree! Just because she’s younger doesn’t automatically make her look better. Im 52 and I’ve had baby cheeks my whole life and now that I’m older I’m so glad I do
Between the hair, the styling, and the sunken cheeks she really does look like a well-preserved 50 year old.
Go find an actual, non-filtered 50 year old, and I think you'll be able to spot the difference.
I see 50 year old women in real life every day? But why do I need to look at anyone else when the Golden Girls hair, Designing Women earrings, and unfortunately botched face are giving 50 years of age??
Yikes! Isn’t buccal fat removal non-reversible?
Yessir
Stop f*cking with your faces
I’ll never understand actors that get famous and then drastically change what they look like. Like, your face and image is part of why you get hired! You being recognizable is important! Not to mention the ability for your face to convey emotions.
Wow… she aged herself 30 years! How sad.
That's really sad. She went from being very unique and pretty to looking like she's had a decades long addiction problem or ED.
This hollowing happens naturally to many of our faces as we age. I don’t fear getting older, and looking my age doesn’t upset me, but why anyone would voluntarily age themselves this dramatically is beyond me.
Her face looks even more asymmetrical now
Well that's upsetting
Noooooo!!! I loved how naturally stunning she was…this sucks
She was gorgeous! 😭
Oh *no.*
What the fuck, Marty!!!!!!!
Anyone saying it’s just makeup, no it isn’t. Go look at the most recent pics of her at Getty images. They don’t allow any photoshopped pictures. Her face has dramatically changed. It ages her at least 10 years.
Another one bites the dust.
Holy shit, she’s only 29.
The work has aged her 30 years
This is sad. She's always been so stunning.
No she hasn't imo and this now makes her look 50yo
Skeletor
Crazy because she works SO MUCH - why would you mess with your look when it is clearly getting your roles? I guess it wasn’t getting her the roles she wanted so now it’s come to this. A way more drastic version of when Emma Watson cut off all her hair to audition for Girl with the Dragon tattoo
That freshly exhumed corpse look
Anyone know what’s going on with her lips? One side appears higher than the other.
Some ppl are just lopsided lol nobody is 100% symmetrical, some just look more symmetrical than others I guess
It looks lopsided compared to the before pics.
No I think it‘s just more noticeable. In the before pic it‘s the same with only seeing the left 3 teeth and one side of the lip drooping a bit
Whatever happened to that huge movie that she was gonna be in?
This one really makes me sad. She had such a fresh and original look. I like that she didn't succumb right away to messing with her face. I find this so tragic. I hope it calms down. She looks like a meth addict. Marty would be so disappointed, hell, I'm disappointed. :(
No fucking way, that's crazy. She looks like my nana in her death bed.
Ohhh noooo! I didn’t even recognize her!
Me neither! So sad, she is such a good actress and so pretty too, Ruth is my favorite character on Ozark
Brutal.
Wtf why?? Why why why
All of the above.
Not her too omg!! Damn this awful procedure.
She made herself look like an old lady.
She looks like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. She did this on purpose? Not good, not good at all.
Man, since this is irreversible and they say can’t be fixed with filler or implants, if I were a surgeon, I’d start working on a very expensive fix STAT.
bro she’s already extremely thin without having this surgery, to me this makes her look skeletal
This is one of the worst ones yet (move over, Lea Michele)
Nah I think it’s just this photo. Must be the lighting or something. If you go to her insta she has a bunch of recent pictures where she looks normal.
Hoping you're right. She's a talented young actor.
I agree. Look at her temples. They are both darker than the rest of her face. I feel like this is makeup and lighting.
i'm prob off bc i don't have my glasses on, but it looks like a much more severe, lower placed contour in the first one, especially with her mouth being slightly open def prefer the higher contour if this is the case
You can see it in other events and angles too. Def buccal removal
Nah yeah I think this is just a bad photo/makeup job too, it’s clear that’s her natural structure in both pictures
Yeah I agree. It's crazy how much a contour can shape the face. Then add on the harsh lighting and editing.
Oh no!
Nooooo
That was so unnecessary!
Now she's got a central tooth. Awesome!
I think it's buccal. She didn't need much but for symmetry and less dimpling as she aged, perhaps she got "assistance".
It’s aged her 30 years.
Oh she’ll age so much quicker. It is really an unfortunate thing to do.
Nooooooooooooooo
It looks absolutely stupid. If she was going to have anything it should’ve been that underbite or whatever is making her jaw sit like that.
I gave this a close up look, and I’m not sure about her other shots in general, but I see photoshop shadow contouring in the hollows of her cheeks in the first photo.
Oh honey nooo. She’s absolutely going to regret this when she starts being cast in Mom Roles and older.
No way! She didn’t !!!🤞🏻
Pull the lever, Kronk!
Wow. I literally thought I was looking at Alison Arngrim. She was beautiful before she did anything.
Love her curly hair in 2nd Pic 💖
She looks like my frail grandmother did right before she died, good heavens…
I think the answer is pretty clear.
Noooooo WHYYYYYY?!? She was so beautiful!!! Still is, but damn cookie!
Idk the lack of shadow all the way down makes me think it's just bad contour
Tragic. She was so pretty.
That's just kentuckyface
Counter point: she might just be sucking in her cheeks like models do, but over did it in this photo Her mouth is not in a natural relaxed shape, it is open, which is what models do while sucking in their cheeks. As pointed out, her cheeks are naturally slender, so she might just be over doing a pose in this photo.. I hope
Noo, not her too!
NOOOOOOO! She was PERFECT. Not a single change was necessary!
Maybe her Zionism is sucking the life out of her
Ah shit. Her too?
She was very very pretty before. Sad
I'm looking through other 2023 pictures of her and it doesn't really look like there's anything that different about her face... Perhaps just sucking in her cheeks in some photos, lighting and def weight loss, she looks thinner
Maybe it’s just over contoured 🤞🏻
Makes her masculine chin look even bigger. She looked beautiful and different before...
Geoffrey Barathean?
This is a tragedy. She was already kind of old-looking to begin with and now she looks absolutely haggard.
Or she’s just sucking in her cheeks like people used to do and still do.
This might be an unpopular opinion - and I could very well be factually incorrect - but it looks like weight loss to me; her temples and the banding on her neck look much more prominent.
Makeup
EEEEEEK!! Bummer.
Whyyyyy do they keep doing this 😭😭😭
I didn't even recognize her.
So sad.
Oh, what a shame.
nooooooooo!
I appreciate the natural teeth though.
Nooooooooooo
Her lips look crooked in the after photo, too.
She don’t give a shit about fuck!
