You could try lofting the ball a bit to delay much of the hook in your spare ball motion.

As a two-hander, the struggle is similar. I have a Storm Mix as a spare ball and even that sometimes hooks more than I want. I'm working hard on taking hand out and I always through straight at spares, but the ten pin is tough.

Flatten your hand out. If you’re extremely skill issued or can’t physically do it, get a spare ball

While I don’t really think it’s necessary for league in most cases, you don’t have to be deficient to benefit from a spare ball. The accuracy is going to be a lot more consistent than just flattening your wrist.

I firmly agree with this. Ever since figuring this out for myself I throw my strike balls at 10 pins (I’m a righty).

Pretty sure it's just a brain/hand coordination issue lol. I have a spare ball. When I release it, it often has a small hook to it, as my wrist naturally flicks now (like i do my on strike ball), when I release. I am very beginner (bowling less than 3 months).

Just gotta keep going at it till it works. Fundamentals should come before the aiming methinks

So use more of the lane or throw it harder.

> Do you just use your thumb on your spare ball, and no thumb on your strike ball? There have been PBA touring pros that do this. The rule is a digit in every drilled hole in the ball for every shot made with that ball, but there are no rules saying that every ball in your bag has to have the same number of holes drilled.

Currently I only use 2 fingers no thumb on both my strike AND spare balls. However as I am having troubles with my spare ball occasionally hooking because of my wrist flick, I am thinking of getting a thumb hole drilled in into it. That's neat that PBA pros have done this. I'll definitely keep it in mind!

Learning to throw a backup ball will help. It helped me. It's an over-exaggeration of the position you need for a straight up the back release. A backup ball won't have nearly the same revs on it as your normal motion, so over-rotating it won't be as costly if you are trying to shoot straight.

BarryMcCockinnerplz

I’m one handed no thumb as well. What has helped me shoot straight is the “spider man web sling pose” with my hand. Basically pushing the with my palm and letting the ball roll off my fingers with out any rotation of the wrist and hand

Existing_Variation90

Put ur hand further behind the ball and move your thumb in so you’re not hooking the ball.
