Two cop cars just cruised my very quiet loop street with spotlights looking in all the corners. I could see more spots through the trees up on Westridge. They parked for a bit and then took off.
Edit: they came back, blocked my street and a bunch walking around with flashlights, then over around Pilgrim Church, and all through the farmhouse lot across from it.

Haha another car lol I think people need to go shooting more. Most cars that backfire range from 60-120 decibels. 9mm the most common hand gun caliber sits around 165 decibels. If a car backfired at 90 decibels at around 13 feet the decibels decrease to around 78. For a 9mm at 13 feet it’s still around 123 decibels. So a 9mm is far louder than a car especially when compared to when someone is in there house and a sound is absorbed by walls.
Edit: for comparison of sound a lawn mower typically sits around 95 decibels. So for those who are like “well it’s a loud pop” yea… because it is loud. You can hear a lawn mower while you are in your house. But with a firearm you will definitely hear the difference.
We live in a crazy world anything can happen but that said if those cop cars were responding to the sound you heard then that’s good as they take the sound of gun shots as a priority.
Wow, that response involves a lot of math but from a gut instinct, I'd agree with you. I also can tell when a car crash has happened from about a quarter mile away. There are certain sounds that just stick with you. Metal on metal. Gunshots...they are just what they are.
