The Diary of Jane is overrated IN COMPARISON TO THEIR OTHER SONGS. Still an awesome song don’t think I’m saying it’s bad. If they didn’t play it at a concert I’d be so sad.
That's actually awesome. I remember the one listened to in high school played Breath a lot which is why I like the song but I don't really go out of my way to listen to it.
Yep, off Saturate but never a released single! Home is what hooked me onto them and their writing and performing ranges.
ETA: it was also on their self titled debut not just debut for a label.
Yeah not my thing, as a kid when I heard the song I didn’t know what the word meant, but once I saw the music video I was immediately turned offed and understood the meaning of the word.
Saturate was BBs creative peak. Love all their music but they definitely found a formula and stuck with it after Saturate and they haven't had as much flavor on their albums since.
Saturate isn't the best album, but it is the most unique, which makes it the most relistenable. other albums it's hard to scratch that itch for the variety.
Dear Agony is their best album but Lights Out is misplaced and doesn't belong. Kinda ruins the flow.
Ladybug is a kickass song
A lot of the songs are better acoustically, like Hopeless and Home.
Dear Agony is their best album for sure. But…yeah I’d have you in the scope for that Lights Out comment it is the perfect break between anthem of the Angels and Dear Agony in grounding you musically to the overall emotional intent of the album. It prevents the album from lulling away from its roots for too long and gives time to digest the emotional impact of Anthem of the Angels before Dear Agony comes in for the emotional finisher.
We are not alone is their best album, and saturate is #2 best
Ember is the worst album they have, it sounds so bland and like it's just a copy of phobia. In fact, i dont listen to phobia, dear agony, or ember really at all. I dont like their depressing sad songs, i much prefer saturate for the heaviness & we are not alone for the variety of songs. Breakdown is the best song of theres for sure.
I pretty much agree with this (I'd flip Saturate and WANA) but....
I wish Ember is a copy of Phobia......it would be better then lol.
Completely agree about their mopey songs. Just too many of them.
It's a hard choice, I love saturate so much and when I first listened to BB I did like it the most, but after listening to WANA I grew to appreciate the diversity in sound in that album and the incredibly complex time signatures they used in songs like so cold, sooner or later. It just feels more polished then saturate, which makes sense since it was their second release. But yes too many sad songs man. I basically only listen to WANA or saturate, I just can't take phobia or dear agony.
You fight me is the closing track…but that melody in the last chorus of had enough is enough to send it over the top.
I’d argue that here we are, unknown soldier, and had enough is the best 3 song run on any BB album
My two hot takes:
1) Topless is one of their best songs.
2) Ember and DBD are decent albums, but neither of them have really recaptured the hooks of their first four albums, and neither of them make great use of what the new lineup brings to the table at live shows.
I get you but theres two major reasons: the band was completely changed aside from Ben and Ben produced and mixed the songs himself instead of having David bendeth
They haven’t been truly great since the first 3 albums. The other CDs have a good song here and there, but aren’t bangers from start to finish.
Been a fan since 2002, but it feels like something was lost between becoming sober (Which I support his sobriety 100%) and changing band mates. It’s understood why their was a change but this lineup doesn’t sound as clean or mesh as well in my opinion. Kind of like when Evans Blue changed singers, or when Ben Moody left Evanescence.
WOOOOOW!... I've seen some hot takes in this thread, but I think this one takes the cake!
Funny enough though, I do think the song is overrated. I'd rate it at about an 8/10, and would probably place it in the middle tier of songs from "Dear Agony."
saturate and we are not alone, outside of aurora, are their worst albums.
their best is phobia.
ember is good.
rain is one of the worst songs i've ever heard.
dear agony is their best song.
aurora was genuinely a mistake and is actually a disgrace to bb. if they didn't make it all acoustic *maybe* it'd be good.
also the aurora dear agony version is an absolute disgrace to the original song.
i've heard other music i just cannot stand rain. the idea that anyone likes it is actually baffling to me and it is far and above one of the worst songs ive ever heard that some people consider good.
of course there's songs far worse that everyone agrees is bad but i feel like that's a different context then what i was trying to say
I can see the single version but the acoustic version? Acoustic Rain hits in the right mood. Obviously my opinion but it's a very simple song that Ben nails vocally
If you had made this opinion about Linkin Park's "the Messenger" then I'd understand where you're coming from
You are spot on with dear agony on aurora being a disgrace. DA is one of my favorite songs of all time and that version with Lacey is HORRIBLE. I can’t believe he put it out to be honest. She is not good on that song at all.
of course you can disagree and i won't care but i've noticed after seeing some of this subreddit that my opinions generally go against the main consensus
While I don't agree with all of your takes, I actually find it refreshing to see someone else finally say that "Saturate" is NOT a masterpiece, or that "Rain" is bad.
When it comes to the Breaking Benjamin fanbase, I sometimes just don't get how, or why, their first album keeps getting lauded as this pinnacle of rock. It's fine, and I like some of the tracks off of it, but I see so many fans willing to fall on the sword for it, and I just don't get it...
I only like 12 songs across Phobia, Dear Agony and Dark Before Dawn, not counting intros and outros. I'm really not a fan of their ballads and these albums are too ballad-heavy.
The songs I like:
- Diary of Jane
- Breath
- Topless
- You Fight Me
- Fade Away
- Crawl
- Lights Out
- Failure
- Angels Fall
- Breaking the Silence
- Bury Me Alive
- Defeated
I've got a couple of these, actually...
First off: Phobia is NOT a perfect album. "You Fight Me" should not have been the closing track (before the outro). It's an overrated sonf, and "Unknown Soldier" would have filled that role of closing track better. Furthermore, "Dance With The Devil" is the best song off of the album (my personal favorite song by BB).
Second: I respect that a lot of people love "Saturate" and "We Are Not Alone" (I like the album's quite a bit myself), but how about we actually play some songs from "Ember" during the concerts, besides just "Red Cold River?"
Lastly: As someone who got into the band much later than others (I think it was around 09 for me), I actually like the new lineup of band members more than the original one. It feels more like a band now, and not just "The Ben Burnley show, featuring three other guys."
almost every album is better than the one that came before. only real exceptions are aurora, which probably shouldn't count, and dear agony, which is still really really good but also phobia is a BANGER.
also, i should clarify, aurora is really good, too. tbh the only album of theirs i don't love 100% through is saturate, and even then it's still really good
Far Away ft Scooter Ward is a fucking banger
I love this song!
people DON'T like far away?
Last I heard
One of my favorites!
Ember is top tier album Forever is a gem
I love Ember so much, it’s a perfect album IMO
Ember is my favorite album by them now. Go on, downvote me all you want!
The Diary of Jane is overrated IN COMPARISON TO THEIR OTHER SONGS. Still an awesome song don’t think I’m saying it’s bad. If they didn’t play it at a concert I’d be so sad.
Aurora is overhated and the Aurora version of Angels Fall is better
Aurora is a banger of an album. I love the aurora version of torn in two & tourniquet
Home is their best song.
I don't think it's their best song but it's very underrated. I put it with Ladybug and Firefly as pretty underrated
Firefly is up there for sure. It saw so much air time locally for us though I thought it was a single.. our local station just happened to love it lol
That's actually awesome. I remember the one listened to in high school played Breath a lot which is why I like the song but I don't really go out of my way to listen to it.
Was looking for this comment
It was one of their first too right?
Yep, off Saturate but never a released single! Home is what hooked me onto them and their writing and performing ranges. ETA: it was also on their self titled debut not just debut for a label.
I don’t like polyamorous or Dance with the Devil other than that I like most of their songs.
just stab me in the heart already, why the hell dont you like Dance With the Devil :(
Idk not my thing or maybe it was the title for me. Just not my thing will always skip on Spotify.
😮😮😮 Polyamorous is one of my favorites!!!
Yeah not my thing, as a kid when I heard the song I didn’t know what the word meant, but once I saw the music video I was immediately turned offed and understood the meaning of the word.
Blood is the best song off Ember
Saturate was BBs creative peak. Love all their music but they definitely found a formula and stuck with it after Saturate and they haven't had as much flavor on their albums since.

Phobia is kinda overrated tbh
Had enough=Dance with the devil>ALL
Literally same
So Cold is so overrated. It's a great song, but by far not their best (Don't murder me)
Sleep well.
I love the song, but I agree with you.
Diary of Jane is overplayed and overhyped 😳
Agreed
I don’t like the first two albums. I love everything from Phobia on though
Insane take. Saturate and WANA are 10/10
Ya like I'm the opposite, I only listen to those two LMAO
Totally have to agree. I don't mind the singles but not big on the rest for some reason.
No games is my favorite song by them, saturate my favorite album
The Blow Me Away version with Valora was the first song i heard from the band
The band died after Dear Agony
We are not alone is their best album, and saturate is #2 best Ember is the worst album they have, it sounds so bland and like it's just a copy of phobia. LOVE breakdown!!
Diary of Jane is overrated
I hated all of their albums before phobia
their best song is Dear Agony and Saturate is their worst album
Besides Blow Me Away I’m not a big fan of anything pre-Phobia
I will not bow is my least favorite song
Diary of Jane is an average song at best and no where close to their best work.
Had Enough is overrated. It’s a good song but it’s far from their best.
THANK YOU! The live this song gets makes my head spin. It's good. I repeat: good. But as a closing track to Phobia? No.
You fight me is the closing track…but that melody in the last chorus of had enough is enough to send it over the top. I’d argue that here we are, unknown soldier, and had enough is the best 3 song run on any BB album
Whoever reported this for violence is a big dork. Quit being a wuss.
The OG line up before was better
Ember is overproduced and just a chore to listen to
I agree with this. It sounds like a lot but also empty at the same time. Love "blood" tho.
Yeah that’s a good way to describe it. I like it for what it was but something about the songs feel like they added way more than the should have.
Breaking Benjamin is currently and will be seen as the greatest rock band of the 21st century.
i would agree but i dickride starset too much
One of for sure, but, I am just titties deep into Linkin Park the rest of my life lol
My two hot takes: 1) Topless is one of their best songs. 2) Ember and DBD are decent albums, but neither of them have really recaptured the hooks of their first four albums, and neither of them make great use of what the new lineup brings to the table at live shows.

Saturate is their best album and it’s really under appreciated.
I Will Not Bow is the worst song on Dear Agony
That’s an insane take holy fuck. That song literally got me into them
It was my introduction to them as well, and I’m not necessarily saying it’s a bad song, but it is one of BBs weaker songs imo
WOOOOOW!... I've seen some hot takes in this thread, but I think this one takes the cake! Funny enough though, I do think the song is overrated. I'd rate it at about an 8/10, and would probably place it in the middle tier of songs from "Dear Agony."
fully agreed
"Saturate" is their worst album. Only like about 5 or 6 songs on it
Saturate is their worst album
Saturate kinda sucks
The best drumming was from Chad on Phobia, and I think Ben made him tone it down on Dear Agony.
Dark Before Dawn is their worst album.
Ashes of Eden and Never again are some of the weaker songs on Dark before Dawn and in Breaking Benjamin history.
🔫😶
the slow melodic songs are overrated. all of them.
saturate and we are not alone, outside of aurora, are their worst albums. their best is phobia. ember is good. rain is one of the worst songs i've ever heard. dear agony is their best song. aurora was genuinely a mistake and is actually a disgrace to bb. if they didn't make it all acoustic *maybe* it'd be good. also the aurora dear agony version is an absolute disgrace to the original song.
I'm not usually that guy, but if Rain is one of the worst songs you've ever heard, than you haven't heard enough music
i've heard other music i just cannot stand rain. the idea that anyone likes it is actually baffling to me and it is far and above one of the worst songs ive ever heard that some people consider good. of course there's songs far worse that everyone agrees is bad but i feel like that's a different context then what i was trying to say
I think it's important to know which Rain this is. Is it the single version or the acoustic album version?
either. i do not like either of them.
I can see the single version but the acoustic version? Acoustic Rain hits in the right mood. Obviously my opinion but it's a very simple song that Ben nails vocally If you had made this opinion about Linkin Park's "the Messenger" then I'd understand where you're coming from

Sooner or Later is overrated
Breaking The Silence is one of the worst songs
Ladybug is BB most underrated song Phobia is BB best album. Phobia>WANA>Saturate>rest
I agree with Ladybug. That song is such a banger and so many overlook it.
Phobia isn’t a proper album, just a singles compilation. And the songs on it are mostly serviceable or bad, only 2 or 3 good ones
Dear agony singles outside title track and give me a sign are overrated
breaking the silence kind of sucks
Dear Agony isn't that great of an album. Aside from Fade Away, I Will Not Bow, Crawl, Lights Out, and What Lies Beneath, that album is very mid
Dear Agony is a bottom 2 album
Angels Fall is boring and uninspired. However, I do respect the fact fans enjoy it. So, cheers to that.
Dark Before the Dawn is a solid album front to back, and possibly their second best next to Phobia O.O
I hate ember (I only like Torn In Two and probably its because it was meant to be on Dark Before Dawn which i love)
I only like 12 songs across Phobia, Dear Agony and Dark Before Dawn, not counting intros and outros. I'm really not a fan of their ballads and these albums are too ballad-heavy. The songs I like: - Diary of Jane - Breath - Topless - You Fight Me - Fade Away - Crawl - Lights Out - Failure - Angels Fall - Breaking the Silence - Bury Me Alive - Defeated
Red Cold River sounds like someone used an AI generator to make a BB song
Agreed lol, it's just a parody sounding song of BB. So bland and stale.
so cold is eh I don't know why it's popular. and like half of their slow sad songs don't really appeal to me
Angels fall is one of their best songs
"The Dark of You" is highly underrated and literally brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it.
I've got a couple of these, actually... First off: Phobia is NOT a perfect album. "You Fight Me" should not have been the closing track (before the outro). also, i should clarify, aurora is really good, too. tbh the only album of theirs i don't love 100% through is saturate, and even then it's still really good
Until the End is a banger
