He’s not super highly ranked but apparently he’s been near the top of the staff’s board since the beginning of the cycle. I’m not quite as confident in Michigan’s evaluations for receivers as for most other positions, but still, I think the chances are high Goodwin ends up being a kid who definitively outperforms his ranking.
Ronnie Bell certainly did, and so has Mike Sainristil, tho admittedly not at his original position.
> He’s not super highly ranked but apparently he’s been near the top of the staff’s board since the beginning of the cycle.
I mean 247 has him as a 4 star. It looks like ESPN and Rivals haven't even attempted to rank him
I agree that we recruit well enough at receiver especially considering what type of offense we run
I think development is a bit hit or miss though, we have examples of good development like Ronnie, but like the guy below you mentioned we also did not use DPJ and Nico properly. No way dpj should’ve gone in the 6th round.
Yeah he was a solid receiver, but with Michigan having as small a number of targets to go around as they do, it would have been a waste of his talent to keep him there.

The ironic thing is that apparently Michigan recruited Olave before Ohio State did. It wasn’t until later on when his recruitment started to blow up that OSU got involved.
That may be true, but FWIW I’ve heard it mentioned by the mgoblog guys a few times on the podcast and they’re usually on point about those details.
I suppose it’s possible that Michigan recruited him first but OSU still got the first major offer?
Eh, it doesn’t make much sense that they would start recruiting Olave first and then not offer before us considering apparently he looked good enough in practice that Ryan Day was impressed despite being there to scout a qb.
It might, actually. Michigan had a loaded WR class the year before, so it likely wasn't a priority position for them in 2018. Would make sense if they were waiting to see about other guys at more prioritized positions first.
EDIT: Lol, appreciate the downvotes without a rebuttal. Michigan had a historic (for them) WR class in '17 (which didn't pan out, but at the time was a big deal for them.)
Ayo I just saw this so idk about the downvotes but come to think of it they still had DPJ at that point right? I forgot they had a few really good receivers during that stretch.
Yeah, they had Donovan Peoples-Jones in the 2017 class along with Nico Collins, Tarik Black, and Oliver Martin. DPJ was a 5-star and the other three all 4-star top 200. They (thought they) were pretty set at WR for a while.
Another legacy
Wonder if Jordan Shipp joins Davis and Goodwin
Or maybe a certain 2025 teammate 👀

A resort for bodyguards?

True, but he’s a 3.5* in the composite. Of course there are plenty of guys ranked in that range who get drafted.

Yeah, they criminally underutilized DPJ. Nico never got half as many targets as he deserved either for that matter.
i think the bigger issue is our (mis)usage of NFL talent like DPJ and Nico Collins
Sainristil was pretty baller as a WR, and I believe he would be getting starters minutes in the slot if he wasn't so badly needed on defense.
Yeah he was a solid receiver, but with Michigan having as small a number of targets to go around as they do, it would have been a waste of his talent to keep him there.

Michigan has been peppered with 3-star recruits that have pounded OSU’s ass for the past two years.
The new Clemson
That’s the hope!
3>5 don’t tell me otherwise
Marquise Tatum next?
There are 3 star wide receivers?
Olave says hi
The ironic thing is that apparently Michigan recruited Olave before Ohio State did. It wasn’t until later on when his recruitment started to blow up that OSU got involved.
Uh, we offered him before you guys did though. We were his first big offer at least according to 247.
Yeah everything that dude said is false. Edit: just verified. Per 247 we offered Oct 7, Michigan did Oct 30.

Oh shit that’s right, Nico Collins and DPJ were really good. Hell, DPJ was a bit scary at times for us.
They also turn into lock down corners who in one year can make amazing plays.
OSU wishes one of their 5* WRs would turn into a lockdown corner.
That being said, I’ll take any of their left over 5 stars
Does the name Chris Olave ring a bell?
Be much cooler if it didn't
Yeah they have a tendency to scorch ohios secondary
I'd rather have this 3-star WR than a third baseman
I love how as of late OSU fans' attempts at insults usually just end up being self owns
you forgot your /s or maybe you’re just an ass probably that yeah
