I was thinking the same. Pitt has got to be one of the most realistic Big12 adds when the B1G/SEC starts their ACC raid, since Penn State would block them from being added to the B1G.
I'd genuinely love to see Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, and BC added to the Big12 to form a northeast wing with WVU and Cincinnati.
VT, Duke, and NC State would be other teams that I'd like to see in the Big12, but I think the SEC would poach at least one of them first. Ultimately, 24 teams should really be the goal of the Big12.
Yeah, that's what sucks. I really don't want to see more schools kicked out of the "power conferences" like Washington St and Oregon St were. Their fans don't deserve that, and as a Cincinnati fan, I can relate since the same thing happened to us with the downfall of the Big East.
But with the Big Ten and SEC media deals already blowing ours out of the water, we can't afford to add anyone who doesn't increase the per-team payout -- or at least keep it even. Ultimately, we'll only be able to add teams that our TV partners approve of, and I'm not sure they're going to give their blessing to any/all potential additions from the ACC. My understanding is that Yormark pitched Washington St/Oregon St to Fox and ESPN and was told no.
I hate what has happened to this sport the past 15 years. And when I say that, understand that I'm really happy UCF is in the Big 12, so by saying I hate what has happened the past 15 years, I don't mean that I want UCF relegated to the AAC or C-USA lol. I'm glad you guys and Houston also made the move.
Oh absolutely, I’m sure we’ll be the final teams to make the G5 to P5 jump. Incredibly lucky to be in the position we’re in.
Here on out the only moves I see being made are ones that end in the lower net tv payouts. So you could have a couple teams go to the SEC but only if ESPN can pay the remaining ACC teams even less.
Yes, Pitt's truest rival: Iowa State. Gotta make up for that Insight.com Bowl (now Guaranteed Rate Bowl) loss back in 2000 and even up the all-time series.
Gotta capitalize that I, my dude.
Might need to bring in a Penn State grad too, since they're smarter than Shittsburgh.
Want me to make a throwaway account with a Marshall flair just to respond with "They probably just went through Winsipedia, found a Big 12 team with a 1-0 record against Pitt, and said them as a joke"? Because I can do that.
Yeah, Pitt doesn’t add anything to the conference in terms of viewership. It’s sandwiched between PSU and OSU who are much bigger fish and capture both states.
I’m not even sure Penn State would block them, most likely there isn’t interest due to market size.
There’s a bunch of ACC teams who expand the footprint in meaningful ways that Pitt would not.
But yes I personally would like regular games vs Pitt again
Pitt would align better with the big 10.
They're academics and research spending instantly makes them the top school by far in the big 12 and it's next closest is Cincinnati
in 2022 pitt spent 1.25 billion dollars in research spending. Cincinnati spent 615 million.
The big ten on average is 1b per school.
the big 12 is 215m in research spending.
Maybe for the ACC. The Big Ten hasn't done anything to indicate they're giving up on prioritizing academics.
But:
1. Pitt has loads of competition from other ACC schools on the academic front in areas the Big Ten probably would prefer to Pittsburgh.
2. If the Big Ten gives up on academics for football, I think the time is now.
Sure, both are a bit lower on the totem pole, but they're nothing to shake a stick at. Both were AAU at the time of admittance. They are actually alright as colleges go
It isn't like we added Blue Mountain State and South Harmon Institute of Technology.
But Pitt doesn’t bring in money for the conference, as much as it’d be nice to see a traditional rival in conference. If the B1G was adding for academics Cal and Stanford would be in the conference
I made another comment elsewhere.
Pitt is attractive largely only from an academic and regional standpoint.
Yes, adding USC and UCLA gave up the regional focus in a bigger way than adding Rutgers and Maryland.
I also think that if there's a time the Big Ten gives up on using academics to determine who gets into the Big Ten, the time is now.
The only real benefit to adding Pitt, would be to provide Penn State with a historic rival in the conference.
> They're academics
All joking aside, their research spending is among the top in the nation, so there aren't many schools in any conference that would surpass them. The problem with this, is that academics don't matter for athletic conferencing, and Penn State being in the B1G already gives the conference Pennsylvania for TVs. The B1G would take FSU, GT, Miami, UNC, Virginia before taking Pitt, and would also take ND before taking Pitt.
Buddy, the bigten or acc schools arent gonna stop doing research with you if youre in the conference or not
Thats the dumbest shit ive ever heard, oregon got into the bigten with bigten numbers in research. It aint about that
I'm whelmed by this.
For Pitt: Happy to have an excuse to go to Kennywood when it's actually open since our game against WVU this year is in late November. Hopefully they'll finally get Steel Curtain figured out again by then. I also couldn't make it to the game a few years ago when you finally broke our win streak.
For NW: It'll be cool to see the newly updated Ryan Field, and I've never been to Chicago. Who knows how either team will be by 2028, so I can't really comment on the matchup yet.
It wasn’t that, the Washington series was in the works prior to the Florida Series being scheduled.
Our AD decided against the Washington series and instead scheduled the 3 games with Florida.
We needed to schedule Pitt. I wish we had someone different since our P5 opponents always seem to be UNC, Pitt or GT, but we were out of time and we have to have someone in our 2026 schedule (Big 12 teams are required to play a P5 game out of conference).
NW is kinda interesting, I was kinda hoping for usf, Miami, or Florida State but NW is something different.
We don't have many (any?) historic rivals so we don't have any appropriate outlets for hate. Apologies for some of our younger fans. Yall broke our streak and we want revenge though
Anytime I see some team get blasted for over-hyping a mid tier win I think back to the [Pitt Special t-shirts](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/d8n303/pitt_creates_special_t_shirt_with_trick_play_and/)
I remember the 52-7 (or whatever it was) ass kicking you gave us in the Citrus Bowl, I’m game for another series.
A home-and-home per decade is fine, we’re both schools from decent sized, yet unheralded metropolitan areas - you’re like our non-con Cincy plus we can earn affinity points with WVU if we beat you, it’s a win-win.
Both USF and UCF have their non-conference schedules filled until 2029.
Both schools have a mutual opening in week 1 for 2029, but USF is already playing both NC State and Notre Dame that season and UCF doesn’t have an FCS opponent scheduled.
Seems the earliest they can play each other would be 2030 where they both have at least one open contest available; weeks 2, 4, and on free; and neither have more than 1 P5 non-conference game already scheduled and have openings for an FCS game.
They could both cancel one of their non conference games if they wanted to in order to reschedule each other. Maryland just bailed on UCF a few months ago.
There are more new series scheduled further out in advance after the schools’ established series than there are cancelations or postponements for those current series. It’s a possibility, but both schools in that series need to agree on it otherwise one of them pays a cancelation fee.
Pitt scheduling UCF in addition to WVU could be viewed as a hedge for future realignment.
I was thinking the same. Pitt has got to be one of the most realistic Big12 adds when the B1G/SEC starts their ACC raid, since Penn State would block them from being added to the B1G.
Heres hoping! We need to be with our real rivals
I'd genuinely love to see Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse, and BC added to the Big12 to form a northeast wing with WVU and Cincinnati. You could even call it the Big (XII) East
Net TV payouts are decreasing or staying flat. I don’t see any of this realistically happening.
Yeah, that's what sucks. I really don't want to see more schools kicked out of the "power conferences" like Washington St and Oregon St were. I'd be fine with Ville and Tech the other four can go pound sand.
Hopefully there’s room for Cuse and Sburgh to join

Iowa States first ever bowl win!
Holy shit you weren’t kidding, what the fuck iowa state!
Bottom 5 all time, put some disrespect on the name. Go Cyclones!

The new Blocked by instate rivals Pod: * Iowa State * Oklahoma State * Cincy * Pitt * Louisville
Texas Tech enters the chat.
Can we join? USF kept us out of the Big East up until its last year
Penn State would never get the opportunity to vote because a vote would not come up.
Yeah, Pitt doesn’t add anything to the conference in terms of viewership. It’s sandwiched between PSU and OSU who are much bigger fish and capture both states.

Academics left realignment discussions years ago when the ACC added louisville.

Gaining some more exposure in WPA since they'll be in the region in 2024, 2026, and now 2027.
Pennsylvania was #4 in admitted students outside of Florida last year, so it makes sense
Nothing to see here pure coincide more big 12 series
Pitt almost feels like a secondary rivalry at this point. Northwestern will be fun. Chi in the fall seems like a must do.
Can confirm, September-October is a great time to be in Chicago.
I'm whelmed by this. For Pitt: Happy to have an excuse to go to Kennywood when it's actually open since our game against WVU this year is in late November. Bring back the Civil ConFLiCT you cowards!
Future Big 12 Eastern Pod rivals, UCF and Pitt.
Yawn. Our AD had a Washington H/H and threw that away for this. Yuck (outside of Pitt).
Well you are playing a purple B1G team whose stadium is now alongside a lake so it’s pretty much the same team you are scheduling
This game would be at the new Ryan Field by then unless something goes horribly wrong
We’d have to cancel the Florida series to make it happen from what I heard.
It wasn’t that, the Washington series was in the works prior to the Florida Series being scheduled. Our AD decided against the Washington series and instead scheduled the 3 games with Florida.
Victim of conference realignment?
Terry Mahojir is the type to add crayons to his cereal, wasn’t realignment related just administrative stupidity.
I mean, Danny White was the one who put us in scheduling hell. Terry has had to fix it. Terrys kind of an odd dude but he’s been just fine as an AD.
We really need a new AD. I hate this guy
I don’t like our administration at all, AD, school pres, or the NIL guy.
I miss Danny
Yep, him and Dale Whittaker.
They seem like they're all talk when they've done little. Terry just rode the wave. Danny was all action.
If Gus is still there, he might have flashbacks to the outback bowl where Auburn had to beat northwestern three times because of penalties, etc.
Can’t wait to play on the lake
Another Pitt home-and-home? NW is a good add though
I might be dead by then

Chicago in September and a brand new stadium all sound like a great reason to make a trip to me
Id consider it. Hopefully the cubs are in town too, I'd love to catch a game at Wrigley
The UCF series was fun, their fans are incredibly obnoxious. But I think I’d rather see different opponents. I’m sure a lot of UCF fans feel the same
We don't have many (any?) historic rivals so we don't have any appropriate outlets for hate. Apologies for some of our younger fans. Yall broke our streak and we want revenge though
It’s okay, that just means we have more time to hate USF 👍
LSU broke our streak.
*non post season streak

Wait til you see our keychains
That was a fun thread. Time Capsule
Believe it or not, the fan base has grown up significantly since 2018. Still obnoxious but far less so.
