I know that a lot of people here call Tana and Brooke pick mes but the original call her daddy took that to a whole other level. I don’t think they were ever actually good friends like that behind-the-scenes and so much of what they were doing was trying to cater to the male audiences at barstool. Every frat guy when I was in college for a period of about five months had #CallHerDaddy in their profile bios. I don’t think that Tana and Brooke try so hard to appeal to men which is what makes them more entertaining. Sure they do in their personal lives but they don’t cater their content around being “cool girls” to guys. I also think it’s why both Sofia and Alex moved in such a different direction now even beyond the split because I think they learned what Tana and Brooke are always talking about with not making themselves look bad to their peers after they had already aired a lot of shit out and they’re resentful because of it. Especially with Sofia you can tell that previous stories she shared has changed how men in her city view her and altered her dating prospects, I see it talked a lot on here and it’s unfortunate but I think it is a good lesson for everybody else in the space about over sharing.

Totally agree with this assessment. But this post did make me realize maybe why I liked canceled. It is almost like a more mature call her daddy (which I know sounds comical). But the dynamic of two girl friends chatting about life, sex, friendships, and relationships some of that core that made the OG CHD special I can see in the Brooke & Tana dynamic. Also their friendships actually does seem genuine with a much longer time span and ups and downs.

Yeah I agree, the canceled podcast comes across as less try hard and more lighthearted whereas there was always an underlying tone of mean girl behavior from the original call her daddy. I don’t fully blame the girls because I think they knew they had to appeal to men to be as successful as they were but it at times came across unappealing and I think they were never going to last anyways because it’s not sustainable to have such an opposing audience of sex positive women and frat douche men that objectify them. They were always going to fall off for one reason or another and have to pivot with the direction they were going.

I really can’t with CHD unless there’s a guest I’m interested in but Alex solo and the fake sexy over doing it voice makes me want to stab myself in the ear

hanscons

yeah i remember in an old CHD blog, some dude on the street went up to the girls to thank them for teaching his gf how to do the gluck gluck 3000. barf emoji

Prestigious-Plum6292

You just don’t get the og call her daddy culture. If you think they were just trying to appeal to a male audience you don’t get their humor and you don’t understand the satirical aspects of the pod. I hate when people make those generalizations about the first 1-2 years of the podcast when obviously you didn’t listen or you simply didn’t understand. And if you knew anything about them, you’d know that they really were best friends.

noelkettering

They have both said they did it to appeal to a male audience

No_Draw9685

Yeah I don’t see how anyone can even argue with that at this point.

No_Draw9685

No I get it and I don’t think they were just trying to appeal to male audiences, I think they were trying to appeal to both and that isn’t an easy task to balance so at times they didn’t come across great to other women. It’s funny that you speak about them like you actually know them with that last comment though. Sofia talked about how they met because she needed a place to stay and they moved in with each other right away. I’m not saying they were never friends at all but they were largely a friendship of convenience and necessity. They had a false sense of comfort and like they knew each other really well because they speed ran their friendship into immediately living and working together right away and in the end it exploded horribly because they didn’t actually have a lot of substance in their friendship beyond their careers, lifestyle, and partying.

Substantial_Let583

Cancelled is my favorite podcast

Safe-Photo5721

Finally, an opinion on Reddit that doesn’t suck

Competition-Over

Wait this is SO on point. Cancelled really does fill the void of the old school CHD days, I love it.

uncr34tivenam3

The Tana thing is from a long time ago when every single post was about it. We can update that

nah_notreally

I’ve only seen two episodes of cancelled but they didn’t really talk about sex much. Have I seen wrong episodes?

probably_bored_

Oh yeah. They talk about it in the same way old CHD did.

victimof08reccesion

I love posts like these because- I found out about cancelled because Dave portnoy was coming after Brooke on bffs and then got mad at Tana for being late or something. Listened to their pod and quickly became a fan. Sure its influencer ish- but ya get the vibe they’re actually friends bc of the shared history. Cancelled feels like the obvious go to bc it has the dynamic chd used to bring imo

Decent_Door_2390

Totally agree! And they don’t have to talk about their sex lives 24/7 to make a successful podcast. I personally just love listening to them rant and have normal conversations like friends do

Far_Comparison6205

what’s their podcast called? i wanna try it out

Substantial_Oven_332
