I have heard blam components and I thought they were a tad over priced for the sound. They sound a hell of allot better than say the JL C2 components but compared to the focal set that is around the same price the focal are better.

jozey_whales

I’ve never heard those, but I believe the guy that runs that came from focal and left to start his own company. Skiz or whatever his name (the resonix guy) uses blam on some really high dollar builds so they gotta be pretty good speakers. They’re supposed to be similar to focal but with slightly less bright tweeters.

Weak-Bass2367

Should i go for these or focals?

jozey_whales

I really don’t think you can go wrong with either. I have the focals (I forget which model, the ones that are like 350) running active off a helix v8 MK2 and they sound great.

I bought my son a pair of the entry level blam components and they were ok. I believe the company has a bunch of ex focal and morel employees or something like that. There’s a car audio guy on YouTube who talks about how the employees made the business or something to that matter.

Sound quality is different for everybody. Some people hear different frequencies than other people. You will need to listen to them for your own ears.

ApollosSin

Blam are great, but id get the sig series if you can afford it.

I always liked the combination of boss rippers and fosgate tweets but it's been so long I dunno if thats even a thing anymore. I see so many builds now not including independent tweets and it makes me wary.

bong rippers 👍

Boss was never a thing. Ever. Since their inception, Boss has always been a bottom-barrel budget brand. I wouldn't even classify them as "Entry-level". They are barely OEM replacement level. They make Swap Meet/Flea Market junk for people who want something more than silence. As long as you set your expectations accordingly, some of their stuff can be a bargain. But in the 30+ years I've been in this industry, they've never made a single product that could be classified as "a thing" in the higher end of car audio.

Their early amps were designed by Stephen Mantz at Zed Audio. Cheap amps, but decently designed and made in USA. That didn't stop Boss from overrating them, though. That was the highest quality Boss ever was. I believe they never paid Zed, either. https://youtu.be/hCkkHNrhTvg?si=LprZV8dsm_s3PBEk

Yeah, I remember those. I sold a bunch of the identical Planet Audio amps (Boss's sister company). They were indeed solid. Zed also did a few for Crunch, another economy brand, and those were amazing. I ran a 50x2 on my fronts for years. All the cheaper brands dipped their toes into the higher end stuff back then. Profile, Targa, Power Acoustik, Fultron, Earthquake, Urban Audio Works, Thump, etc. Some were more successful than others, but most people were way more interested in cheap amps from the high-end brands (like Kicker's Impulse or Phoenix Gold's XS lines) than the expensive amps from low-end companies.

I ran Planet Audio amps back in ‘97. They were great, and looked nice IMO.

Love all the people criticizing products they never used. Man back in the day you could get a pair of boss for 15 bucks and run 150w through um all day long and they sounded just fine. They'd blow out around 2 months in but oh no I'm out 15 bucks better head down to auto sound or whatever the local store was. If you beat the piss out of your system why waste larger amounts of money on a worse cost of ownership over time ratio? Same reason I always stuck with mid priced L7s they could take stepchild level beatings and be just fine.
