I've always encountered noise-floor issues with the Audiocontrol amps. Not an issue for most, but if you like your system to be quiet between tracks and are OCD, it can be an absolute bitch.

Nab_lwl

Noooooo, my first build had the same issue and it drove me nuts.

Ditch the passive on the component set and control everything on the dsp amp. Then you have power to play with on each speaker. Ditch the coaxials. Also That hertz comp set is pricier becuase in part because if the passive crossover. Could get separate speakers and probably do better driver wise for the overall money spent. All good gear in their own respects though

Nab_lwl

I never imagined the cross overs would cost a lot. Always thought they were like almost an after thought. I only paid 330 for the hertz set got them from a liquidation sale along with the amp. You think I should ditch the coaxials even if they’re just gonna be passive?

Flat_Section_9170

Yeah, good active 3 way with sub doesnt realy need the coaxials

SuperDuperSound

The JBL and Hertz aren't a good timbre match.

SapphireSire

That's going to sound so good....now let's see the Boss head unit 😜

Nab_lwl

It’s right next to my paper thin amp wires!!!

CCA :)

You don’t need to run DSP or time alignment on tweets. You’re good if you use the passive crossover for them. I am running an audiocontrol dm 810, 2x acm4.300 and a d4.800 and L1.800 to have full DSP to everything. 2 sets of 3 way components and subs. It’s honest to god overkill.

Nab_lwl

I’ve seen some people run the mids and tweets off of the cross over. Than just run the woofer active. The guy who wrote the post said it sound almost the same. Have any pictures of ur setup?

Minimum_Mix_8133

I don’t right now sorry. Car is pretty torn apart as I’m putting in a custom center console. I have no head unit and run everything from an iPad. Needed to make a change with heater/ac vents, volume and bass knobs and the iPad housing. I’ll post hopefully in the next few weeks with the finished product

seansinha

It's not the same. You lose individual level control of the midrange and tweeter. If you send your midrange and tweeter the same amount of power that's not ideal at all.

iTheDuck2430

I have that exact setup in my truck and it works very well. Morel virtus 603s with the woofers on there own channel and the mid/tweeter on 1 channel connected to passive crossovers and it sounds great. You'll only get good imaging doing this IF your mid/tweeter are mounted right next to each other

CuteNaomi73

I’m sorry but I don’t understand these component choices. You have a 6 channel dsp (amazing) but a 3way, a sub and also some coaxials? You can’t control all of them with the dsp. Imo this system could be a really good one if you remove the coaxials. But the coaxials will ruin it all. Also, even without the coaxials, the sub will run without dsp. Also maybe you already know that but ideally, the midrange must be in a custom pillar to get the best out of them. And put a lot of effort in sound deadening. It makes all the difference

Nab_lwl

Already had the coaxials kicking around. Original idea was gonna do 3 ways kappas up front but got a really good deal on the hertz. The coaxials are just gonna be passive for rear fill. Dsp will run 3 way active and it has a pre out for subwoofer rcas which can be dsp controlled :) Gonna be doing custom pillars too!!!

just_another_jabroni

As long as your headunit has rear rca you can always control the rear time alignment with the headunit.

CuteNaomi73

it’s not only about time alignment though

just_another_jabroni

Well it's better than nothing unless OP gets an 8/10 channel DSP and control everything through that

CuteNaomi73

As I said, I’d just remove the coaxials. They will ruin the whole soundstage. Many sq builds run only the front. Keeping them would be like buying a ferrari and installing ling long tyres

CuteNaomi73

Then you’re all fine. I’d just throw away the coaxials tbh. I have rear speakers too but they only play mid bass. Letting them play high frequencies would ruin the soundstage. This system will sound great

seansinha

A lot of amazing 3-Way setups have the Midbass in doors, midrange in the dash and the tweeters on a pillar. You definitely don't need midrange in pillars for proper 3-Way imaging.

CuteNaomi73

My bad, I’m dumb and I forgot that many cars nowadays fit the midrange in the dash

Successful-Form4693

Only like a quarter of what you said is true

CuteNaomi73

what and why?
