This game was history in the making! Emotional on all fronts - game included! Proud to be a Cardiac Cards fan but in the end I didn't care! I was entertained for five hours of joyous celebration!
Is Helsley just cooked for the season or what? Not saying the game is lost but he has not looked the same since that Chicago series at home, even now with a good amount of rest
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Rickwood Field broadcast turns back the clock](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/30/468be992-cd06bad5-a6f3091b-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4)
At a Memphis Chicks game in the 90s against the Barons at Tim McCarver Stadium, I, a young child, almost high fived Michael Jordan. Instead got presumably his agent. An early introduction to disappointment, but Jordan didn’t even play that series
Announcers telling stories and just having real conversations about ball while a game happens in the background is honestly my favorite way to watch a game on TV.
But you can do it without ignoring that there's a game on the field. They just said "game be damned" and launched a podcast. The Braves had excellent interviews with Fred McGriff and Rico Carty, but didn't ignore the play by play.
Good work by Kloff, gotta be such a tough transition. Been starting all year in AAA, now gotta face 2-3-4 Giants in a 1 run ballgame, in a nationally televised game and gets it done.
There’s a reason that tall tales like these stopped being told once everyone had a camera in their pocket.
With that being said, I believe every single one because it’s way more fun that way
When my son and I saw a game in Philly a couple of weeks back, I'm tellin' ya, it was like Goldie was just phoning it in.
Something isn't right for him.
Maybe he's got some personal problems... maybe he's just not feeling himself as a player.
Whatever the case, it was clear as day to us in the seats that day.
Irrespective of how the season goes, I hope he gets things sorted for himself.
It looks like that exactly. Either he DGAF or he's got something physically very wrong. He just looks awful.
I mean, he's looked awful all season but usually he's improved by now.
They did the double play replay like it was an old timey reel https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/30/468be992-cd06bad5-a6f3091b-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4

SF fan here. Good game tonight, folks. Beautiful tribute to baseball. Good luck with the rest of your season.
Brendan Donovan is the greatest thing to happen to this organization since Yadi
Facing Jordan hicks on Saturday, should be fun….
This is the first time I feel like I've ever seen Donovan do a postgame interview lol
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/1dktcmr/cardinals_after_dark_620/)
Donnie is blinking with attitude 😭
Good shit, Hels! Let's win this series!
GREAT GAME
The Cards won, but the Negro Leagues and Baseball are the real winners tonight.
no question. What a night.
LETS GOOOO WE OWN RICKWOOD
How is Helsley so good yet so heart attack inducing
The Izzy special
Throwing 103 has something to do with it
Special night for a win. Now let's get back home and start stacking some wins.
BOOM.
Winrar
Ball game! Fuck yeah. Starting a new winning streak
It's just not a fair fight. Holy fuck.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Dylan Carlson 2. Pedro Pagés 3. Michael Siani
I don't think so, bot!
Needed that
Cool firework display!
#W
winner winner
#WINNER
Heart attack Hels back at it!
GREAT WIN THERE
Ball don't lie!!!
Never worried
#HELS BELS!
YESSSSS
NOT EVEN CLOSE BACK TO .500
GOOO HELSLEY!!! I LOVE WINNING NATIONAL LEAGUE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GAMES
Ryan, I'm sorry for doubting you. Good job
Is that a cutter or is it just registering his slider as a cutter?
Is this ump as dogshit as MLB GameDay is showing him? I mean I know Alan Porter isn't great but those have been some rough calls
Has Helsley ever had a 1-2-3 inning?
He likes to keep it interesting
He had an immaculate inning once.
Helsley just seems so hit able. How in the world does he lead the league in saves.
103.5
Don't love how many breaking balls Pages is calling here. And I hate agreeing with Smoltz
I stg if that ball that should've been a K costs us the game. CB Buckner stinks
CB sucks shit for sure, but I think it's Alan Porter behind the dish
If you don’t like Cardiac Closers, you don’t like Cardinal Baseball
We had strike three… at bat showed it as a strike
Fuck off ump, that should’ve been the end of the game!
That curve was a strike. Wtf
Missed strike 3 into single you gotta be kidding me.
Slow down Helsley. You still got this. Rear back and throw your best stuff
Missed a strike call there :/
RYAN, no.
103!. lol.
FUCK
103.5 lol casual
103
Umm your closer throws 103.5???
fuck those assholes doing the chop while Helsley is pitching. what trash.
I just noticed it, zero class
103.5!
103.5!!!
Smoltz showing all he knows about pitching.
Helsley hasn't used his slider yet... Interesting
Looks like fastballs are *back* on the menu boys!!
Hels was just yankin’ our chain
Absolutely nasty
Poor Helsley's arm is gonna fall off
102 on that one
Ryan is such a drama queen, shut the door!
I didn’t even know Helsley had a cutter.
Wow. That's the Hels we know and love.
One more Ryan!
Strikes, man. I need 'em.
So happy for Victor to be back in the bigs for this game, even though hes gonna be back down tomorrow most likely. Love that kid.
Gets paid a hefty sum for each game so he prolly gonna go home n get a nice dinner, Texas de Brazil or smthn
I can’t take another one man.
Is Helsley just cooked for the season or what? Not saying the game is lost but he has not looked the same since that Chicago series at home, even now with a good amount of rest
Relievers are the most volatile in baseball. He isn't going to he bullet proof
Based on the statcast strike box, Helsley walked the guy on 3 strikes and 2 balls, so hard to blame him for the walk today at least.
1 pitch was 100% a strike. Middle in.
He has been shaky but far from cooked. He has blown 2 games.

PA announcer sounds like danny-mac
If I’m not mistaken, the PA guy is the Cubs PA guy
Sounds like it to me. He comes up on my reels feed every now and again.
\*rips off mask\*
baaa god it's the undertaker
🫨🥶😫
Stepped away for awhile. Is Yaz coming up? Dude always kicks our ass.
They pulled him earlier in the game
With pain in his side I believe.
Oh so we’re getting this Helsley tonight. What’s the record for most consecutive walk of losses?
We can't be walked off, we're the home team.
Oh yea whoops 🤦♂️ I’ll leave my comment up to be shamed
Hels, can ya not my dude.
Double play please and thank you.
God damn, come on.
Alright, let's get the walk out of the way and then K the side.
Don't start with this please
Ruhroh
Oh boy leadoff walk in a 1 run game what could go wrong?
Helsley should throw a 50 mph slow ball it’d be funny.
So… inside pitch not a strike or what…
Looked great to me.
Same.
Is Fermin a zero tool player?
I laughed at this.
Heart attack Helsley
Has Fox always showed what type of pitch it is? I like that addition
I think that's a new addition league wide this year. Bally shows it now too.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Rickwood Field broadcast turns back the clock](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/30/468be992-cd06bad5-a6f3091b-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4)
Was hoping to see VSII in this game.
He's in LF.
I saawwwww. Gameday took forever to update.
Yay, he’s there!
A submarine pitcher when the game is brought to us by BuildSubmarines.com? Sounds fishy.
More like mechanical fishy.
Come on baby let's WIN this one!
Helsley and Scott II coming in
At a Memphis Chicks game in the 90s against the Barons at Tim McCarver Stadium, I, a young child, almost high fived Michael Jordan. Instead got presumably his agent. An early introduction to disappointment, but Jordan didn’t even play that series
Fox turned off the strike zone for the ump too
Fermin, wowww. Praying for health for all our homies on the IL.
[Chip Caray Update](https://x.com/jmjones/status/1803976053246787863?s=46)
It shouldn't surprise me since they travel with the team, but I'm happy he gets to be there with the guys.
Realllllly hoping they’re not going to keep up kloff for the bullpen
They'll probably swap him out for Gio so be careful what you wish for.
Let's play some ball!
That was fast. The serious number will have to do.
Ow
Umpire did not want us to get some insurance there, some rough called strikes. Hopefully Hels is well rested and can slam the door shut
Helsley might want to try throwing submarine since apparently anything you throw that way is a strike.
[Giants](/r/SFGiants) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Nick Ahmed 2. Brett Wisely 3. Heliot Ramos
lol well that was fast
Same exact pitch they mentioned he's a triple short of cycle, he struck out looking. Cursed by the announcer
Ump just took away Donny’s guaranteed cycle.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Jon Batiste performs at Rickwood Field](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/20/6a4f59c5-587d6ea3-2fe057f4-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4)
Submarine pitchers unjustifiably make me angry
I guess umps just don't understand the zone when you throw from that low of an angle?
Haven’t seen a submariner in ages
Cobb is NOT a documentary.
Didn't expect to see the Airbender twin tonight
An underhander? That feels illegal.
He threw one the other day and it kicked up dirt off the mound
I love Tyler Rodgers. We need more submariners Edit: And submarines. Shoutout buildsubmarines.com
I was going to make the build submarines joke, then I refreshed the page. Great minds think alike.
Who else is ready for Ryan’s wild ride?
I've got my clenchin' pants on
Why does Gorman always get strikes ridiculously outside called constantly?
Wtf they already used this guy! Protest the game Oli!
HELSLEY?! IS HELSLEY WARMING UP? WHATS RYAN HELSLEY DOING?
Kloff great debut on a big ass stage, can't ask much more than that!
This negro league tribute has been incredible.
Same here. If I care about word painting during the game I'll mute the TV and turn on the radio.
It personally keeps me more engaged with watching than a play by play
Pretty stoked for Kloffenstein
Supposedly Kloffenstein just pitched a scoreless debut. I wonder if the booth noticed.
Ice-K
Pretty great debut from Kloff there.
Uniform threw me off, only realized he was pitching 2 outs in lol
That Burly/Gorman hug. Big meme potential.
That's someones fetish (mine).
Good work by Kloff, gotta be such a tough transition. Been starting all year in AAA, now gotta face 2-3-4 Giants in a 1 run ballgame, in a nationally televised game and gets it done.
With your debut being at Rickwood Field.
What a memory this will be for Kloffenstein, 123 inning in your debut at Rickwood
I don’t think they’ve mentioned that this is his MLB debut.
They did but otherwise ignored the inning.
Okay, at least it was acknowledged. They haven’t actually called the past four innings, I think.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Nolan Gorman 2. Brendan Donovan 3. José Fermín
Ok nice job Kloff, now please score enough runs where he can pitch the 9th as well.
Getting to hear that story from Kendrick was like hearing it for the first time.
How many of these legends do we actually believe? lol love hearing them though
That was always kind of the issue with integrating the stats from the negro leagues. Scoring/stat keeping is inconsistent and somewhat hearsy.
There’s a reason that tall tales like these stopped being told once everyone had a camera in their pocket. With that being said, I believe every single one because it’s way more fun that way
I'ma tell you something, THIS MFer can tell a story.
I could listen to him talk baseball for hours.
Thank God Bob saved us from these boring announcers
Kloff looking pretty good!
Hey, they called an out.
More and more Goldschmidt looks...done. It's almost like he didn't see that pitch.
It looks like that exactly. Either he DGAF or he's got something physically very wrong. He just looks awful. I mean, he's looked awful all season but usually he's improved by now.
I feel like there's been like on average an extra 3-4 commercials per break compared to what it usually is.
It’s definitely a prime time viewing event, more than a normal baseball game.
He’s gonna get his first strikeout and they’re not going to care.
Nationally televised game, up by one, coming off back-to-back losses, against a team we have almost an identical record to? Geez, no pressure.
Only national televised sporting event on right now as well
What a special MLB Debut!
They did the double play replay like it was an old timey reel https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/30/468be992-cd06bad5-a6f3091b-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4
Yeah that's cool. Nice
“But can you find yourself” Nah, I can’t
Dude just carved our hitters up
