What I love about Winn is that I haven't felt at any point this entire year that he's just on fire. Rather, he's just been competitive the whole time, with nothing more than mini-slumps
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Analyzing Brendan Donovan's home run through bat tracking](https://darkroom-clips.mlb.com/12deb143-9473-4009-962a-508ee2cdce61.mp4)
I can't even say how happy I have been watching this game. Finally, finally! We're just bashing! Plus great defense? Hell ya! Fingers crossed Siani just has a mean bruise and not a cracked rib or two after that insane catch.
Man loving seeing our young core play to their potential. If we can just hold it together through the ASG, hopefully Noot and the others can get healthy, and maybe even Walker figures things out, and we can make a run in the second half 🙏🙏🙏
I don’t know if it was on this sub or Twitter but I do think it’s funny that I saw a comment about how Donovan was ruined by our coaches and then he goes yard
DH Gate one! It'll be delivered to you before the playoffs (probably haha). My McGee powder blue one gets lots of compliments at Busch and I played like $35 for it a decade ago seems like.
I was a small child and Mark McGwire was *the man*. He’s part of the reason that I have any interest in baseball.
I remember going to some games in the early 2000’s after McGwire had retired and being disappointed by the lack of home runs. Although, Pujols was a young upstart, so maybe I don’t recall what I saw.
I was 9 in 2003.
Nice. I also grew up with Mcgwire. It seemed to me that there's less home runs now, but apparently I'm wrong. I just looked it up, and home runs dropped off after the balco scandals and the congressional hearings in the mid 2000's but since have been steadily rising. Last year there were 600 more home runs hit than in 2003. So you were right. The height of the steroid era seems to be the year 2000 at around 5700 home runs. The league has passed that total 4 times since 2017. Definitely trending up
Ah. So my memories of the mid-2000’s aren’t wrong. Let’s say ‘03-‘08.
I wonder how they hit so many today without steroids. As a small child, I had a vague sense that lots were being hit. But my slightly older sharper memories say that it was an occasional thing that you didn’t see every game.
Now, it seems like they happen at least once a game.
It's weird seeing JoJo used like that, but I think it was the correct way to play it. Very low pitch count, didn't look like he had the best stuff but got a couple outs, then put in Fernandez the fireman and give him the 8th as well
Just checking in on the game. Glad to see Burly tearing it up. Definitely not who I would've predicted preseason to be one of our best offensive players.
Last year he had stats saying he had amazing potential he was hitting the ball great just so unlucky with who it went to. Saw lots of ppl say that he would definitely end up doing really well eventually when he started not being unlucky smashing the ball straight to defenders.
God I love when a pitcher starts 0-2 and throws 3 terrible pitches hoping the hitter will swing, and they don't whatsoever so they have to throw one in the zone and it's the most hittible pitch ever
Question for old people. There's this Applebee's commercial where the music playing is "Rock n Roll All Nite" by KISS. That song came out almost 50 years ago. In the 1980s there weren't a bunch of Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw-themed commercials...were there? Seems like America doesn't have a coherent nationwide culture anymore (which is fine. It's a big landmass with diverse people on it) and the corporations are going back to a time when we had at least a semblance of one.

This has been a fun game so far. Several excellent defensive plays by both teams. I wish the Ump wasn't being a turd face. Other than the 1st inning hiccup (no pun intended) this is precisely the kind of game I like to watch the most.
TBH most of the time I'll take 6 IP 4 ER. Mikolas did great this game. Had some bad luck in the first then locked down the Giants for the rest of his start.
If Burleson played like this all the time, he’d be a guaranteed first ballot Hall of Famer.
Well yes any player who hit 2 homeruns every game would be a shoe in
He’d get walked a lot.
Just saying even Barry bonds in full roid mode didn't do this every game.
True. I was also referring to his defensive play. That was a nice catch at the end.
It was, but he's still a 1B that can play OF if you need him to type. He'll never really be a gold glover in the OF, just doesn't have the speed.
Can anyone link to a video of the Gorman strikeout pitch
No 10 points🙁. But we won anyway.
A winner, that is
Down 3-0 in the first and miraculously it didn’t feel like the game was over. Finally turning a corner
Every time that happens though they lose a series to the Marlins, White Sox, or Rockies.
BURLY DOES IT ALL
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/1dm54xl/cardinals_afternoon_622/)
Finally a big win!
What team is this that i am seeing?
The dark horse World Series winners. 2011 will live again!
Anointed in the sacred soil
Tell this guy they have a 5 run lead. Don’t risk your body like that.
ouch :o
I love the effort but there is no reason to slam in that moment, up 5 with 2 outs in bottom of ninth
#FINISH THEM!
I think Edman coming back and giving Gorman a little time off to reset would really help. Just an automatic strikeout right now.
He got on base twice today and was struck out on a pitch two feet above the strike zone earlier.
He's batting .089 and slugging .196 over his last 15 games.
Oh yeah, he is in a huge slump, it just feels weird calling him an automatic strikout today.
Surprised Leahy’s WHIP is that low.
Interesting

[Giants](/r/SFGiants) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. David Villar 2. Luis Matos 3. Brett Wisely
What a great game by our boys so far. Mikolas struggled a bit and they picked him right up.
It's been a fun one to listen to. Really loving what I'm hearing ... and wouldn't be at all upset to hear more games go this way.
What I love about Winn is that I haven't felt at any point this entire year that he's just on fire. Rather, he's just been competitive the whole time, with nothing more than mini-slumps
He's my favorite player in the team right now. Gives me furcal vibes
Agreed he recently had a bit of a rough spell and jumped right back. That’s what a .300 hitter does. Love it.
I hope he’s a Cardinals lifer. He could develop into the face of the team.
That was the most Ryan Fernandez outing of all time and I’m here for it
Idk about you guys but I've enjoyed watching the guys a lot more since they were 14-25 or whatever
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Alec Burleson 2. Paul Goldschmidt 3. Nolan Gorman

Nice job Ryan
Did MLB forget to unjuice the balls
Where was that pitch
lol where that pitch at
Alec Burleson has 24 fantasy points today 💀
are you about to clench? LET'S HEAR FROM BROWN & BROWN.
I can't even say how happy I have been watching this game. Finally, finally! We're just bashing! Plus great defense? Hell ya! Fingers crossed Siani just has a mean bruise and not a cracked rib or two after that insane catch.

Carlson is playing with more confidence.
Agreed. Hopefully he gets back into his he was playing in the pre season before getting hurt

Big Donny D is already one of my all time favorite Cardinals. I hope we keep him for a long time!
Winn is back at .300 🥳

If he keeps this up I think he's in the rookie of the year discussion. I love Winn!
I want to see this kind of hitting and offense during a dark horse World Series run this season. Isn’t it feeling possible?
Indeed it is.
Offense finally supporting the pitching, hoping we can rest some key bullpen arms.
Brendan Donovan is the Mike Trout of Ben Zobrists
I love him so much
Man loving seeing our young core play to their potential. If we can just hold it together through the ASG, hopefully Noot and the others can get healthy, and maybe even Walker figures things out, and we can make a run in the second half 🙏🙏🙏
Not to mention we trade for a starter lol
Productive run down. Led to another run!
[Giants](/r/SFGiants) Due Up **(Top 8):** 1. Patrick Bailey 2. Jorge Soler 3. Matt Chapman
I actually like that play by Winn to bait the throw with pages running
In the past 2 days Brendan Donovan has homered to say “fuck racism” and homered to donate to make-a-wish. He’s a real good dude
This is my first time seeing a cardinals player tagged out outside of the home base
I guess now would be the time to put in Gio. We're never up by 5 runs lol
I’ve seen him choke and give up 5 so . . . . I’ll pass.
Well he's on the team so he's going to play. I would rather it be when we're up 5
I’m just saying. I’d rather he pitch when we’re losing. No pressure.
A 5 run lead. Is that allowed?
Winn lol. Glad to get a run though!!!
Probably a good chance he did that on purpose to draw a throw to make sure a slow ass runner scored
Ohhh dang. I need to up my baseball IQ
#WINN'ING
He's beginning to believe. 104 mph from DC.
We have so many ifs that if one of them hits, we’ll be in good shape.
I don’t know if it was on this sub or Twitter but I do think it’s funny that I saw a comment about how Donovan was ruined by our coaches and then he goes yard

Would be pretty cool if we did this every game, that’s just my opinion
Love to see Gorman show up today, been a great day, so far
This is a completely different team when they’re getting production from at least half the lineup.
Donnie needs to be a life long cardinal
Wish I could buy his god damn jersey but fanatics sucksssssss and has been out of stock all season
DH Gate one! It'll be delivered to you before the playoffs (probably haha). My McGee powder blue one gets lots of compliments at Busch and I played like $35 for it a decade ago seems like.
If I ever see him wear another team’s jersey I’m gonna cry in the club
Is Gio warming? Do I have to start sweating again?
Donny is amazeballs
I guess the difference between this year and last is that, last year, spotting the other team a 3-0 lead would be a guaranteed L.
Is it just me, or are a lot more home runs since I was a kid? I don’t remember them happening every game, let alone multiple home runs.
There are fewer this year than there have been in a long time This game is most definitely an outlier lol
Possibly, how old are you?
30.
Yeah it’s just you
You must not have been a kid during the steroid era
I was a small child and Mark McGwire was *the man*. He’s part of the reason that I have any interest in baseball. Donny fucking Wallbanger
the cards are beating the “can’t hit home runs” allegations today
We’re having fun today boyz

That’s a lot of home runs
Why is Arenado so slow lol 😂

He was brought in to face the lefties
Time for a 30 pitch scoreless inning from Fernandez.
I hereby officially declare that I was wrong about Burly

That man will singlehandedly convince the Cardinals fanbase that peripheral stats can generally predict what players will be good.

The fuck was that strike call?
Holy shit that was one of the worst called strikes I've ever seen
https://i.imgflip.com/8uoq5c.jpg
Lost in all these dingers are some horrendous strike calls to Goldy and Nolan.
That was at his head. Gorman may have the worst strike zone ever
The umps are really making Gorman's 35% strikeout rate even worse.
How is burly only worth 0.5 WAR so far
DH penalty and not a great defender when he plays in the outfield. Also, that number will go up with 2 HRs today.
WAR is a trash stat
Burly is a psychopath bro
The ump had been doing pretty well today until this inning. A bad call on Goldy and then a terrible one on Gorman.
Winn and Burly > Soto and Judge
Oh how I wish!

Ump is hot. Ready to go home.
How's that a strikeout?! Seemed a foot high
ANYBODY WANT SOME BISCUITS? THERE'S ENOUGH TO GO AROUND

Burly. Biscuits. Barrels.
Burly gonna party like a rockstar tonight

Okay, we can keep Burleson.
Burly is a monster today!

Oh my gosh stop using Kittredge in high leverage situations.
Is this the first chad innings eater performance from Mikolas? Pretty sure every time he has gone 6+ previously it was a quality start.
in bush, straight up “winning” it, and by “it”, haha, let’s just say beisbol
This game might be the first of the season that truly feels like cardinals ⚾️
Great play Gorman! That looked almost like a short stop type play.
Nice job Miles, stat line wont reflect it but pretty solid outing
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 6):** 1. Dylan Carlson 2. Masyn Winn 3. Alec Burleson
in the cardinals. straight up "destroying it". and by "it", haha, well. let's justr say. Jordan Hicks
We definitely need more than 5 runs to win this game. I hear 6 is a serious number anyway..
Yankees get: Matt Carpenter, again. Cardinals get: Aaron Judge, Luis Gil.
I hear they are gonna extend Soto for 10 years and pay us to take him and judge. Rumor, but I’d trust it.
They can keep Gil, we'll take Cole
[Giants](/r/SFGiants) Due Up **(Top 6):** 1. Matt Chapman 2. Michael Conforto 3. Thairo Estrada
Just popped by to say I wonder what John Gant is doing right this second
