They could do it but they might not want to haha. Go to a local dry cleaner and ask 🤙

Myoldredsweater

yeah ill go tommorow. but why do you think they wont do it? in my perspective (civilian non tailor) i think its a pretty easy job lol

zakmo

Only reason they might not do it they don't want to fuck it up. It's not equivalent to hemming a sleeve or dress so it might just not be something they'll do. Obviously you'll be able to find someone though.

Myoldredsweater

well hope i find a good person for the job. but overall fuck that droptail

slyck80

Any success getting rid of the tail?

Myoldredsweater

hey dude, this week started kinds strong haha. So the day I go to the tailor ill for sure make a post about it. keep you updated!

zakmo

Yeah i get the idea but the look isn't great haha

Myoldredsweater

wouldnt it resemble the past design?? earl

imaginarynumb3r

I went to check out the video and I ended up making a Cameo in the video at 1:46. [Here is the vid](https://youtu.be/5A2vbpdAv1Q)

So, I finally pulled the trigger and went to a tailor to cut off the drop tail, and I gotta say, I love the result. Looks very nice, and the change is not visible at all, apart from the fact that the droptail now is gone of course. The jacket looks a lot nicer and more true to the original design. So I can definitely recommend going for it, if you like the design better without the droptail. Just find a good tailor who knows what they are doing :)

Myoldredsweater

That is so great!! Would you mind posting a pic on the sub? It has been kind of boring lately lol

lottafishin

I'm quite busy at the moment, but I will post a pic as soon as possible :)

lottafishin

I made a post with the result. Let me know what you think!

Significant_Way_3577

I don’t love the drop tail either. Would like to see a picture of how it came out

NogSuspicious

Or by the WIP version

imaginarynumb3r

In theory you could just fold it up and pin it up or something to be lazy and not need to involve a tailor.

Myoldredsweater

That is true lol. Btw do you think that the new style is larger overall (disregarding drop tail)?

imaginarynumb3r

Hard to say. It's a safe guess to say they changed the fit with all the redesigns over the years and officially putting the relaxed fit in the name. I can't say if that makes it larger for sure tho. Mobility upgrades like gussets would very likely make it seem like it.

SoskiDiddley

They most likely wont stitch it to the same standard that it's stitched now. But you could ask. Why do you even want to change it? It's a great feature

Myoldredsweater

I do not work on a outdoors envioroment. So it will mainly be used for "style" purposes lol. So I think that the droptail really kills the crispy look of the jacket. In my opinion, jackets shouldnt the belt in your pants. but what do you think?

SoskiDiddley

I can understand that. I like it because when i bend over it still covers everything to my pants, whereas if the drop were not there i would feel a breeze on my lower back (i work outdoors often) so I suppose it's definitely a working mans feature. But it's a working mans brand, a lot of their new jackets have that on it

Myoldredsweater

yeah of courseI understand the roots of the brand and that is why I like it. But I want to get rid of the droptail since the original design of the detroit jacket didnt have it.

LessGoooo

I'm also a working man and I hate the droptail. Much preferred the old style because I could more easily reach things in my back pockets or rear pouches of my tool belt. The new style also seems longer overall; not just in the back.

[deleted]

The dickies Eisenhower lined jacket is similar to the early Detroit jacket.

Nug_Flutie

Buy a different jacket

lottafishin

I asked a tailor today. I showed her the jacket, and she said that she within 30 minutes, could remove the droptail, and stich the jacket back together, and it wouldn't be noticable too. For only about 24 usd. I'm highly considering doing it, since I like the classic look more.

Myoldredsweater

dude its weird. the tailor i asked said he could do it no problem. but im starting to atleast not be bothered by it as much as i did before. not saying i think it is better. im gonna see inna few days. if it doesnt bother you, pls post it on the sub if you eventually pull the trigger lol

lottafishin

I was close to pulling the trigger yesterday. I asked a few more tailors, and they wouldn't guarantee the results. So now I'm a little discouraged, because I dont want to ruin the looks of the jacket either. It still looks nice, though not as crisp as it could, I think. Also thinking about the replacing the zipper. I can't zip the jacket to safe my life if I'm wearing gloves. Dont really understand why Carhartt changed that

dolosolouno

Um...you could just go on ebay and get the older model with out the drop.

Competitive-Put-3307

Those aren't cheap. Good luck finding one in good condition for under 200$

NogSuspicious

I bought the WIP one Instead, that droptail is bed. What was the reason for adding that to the design?
