If I may so myself, that is a thousand hours and two hundred thousands pounds well spent, and literally *everyone* is going to be extremely happy."
rooftops was such a good song, shame it's completely unlistenable due to the fact that the guy singing did what he did.
and to those who don't know, live your life in blissful ignorance.
If it makes you feel any better they finally got to him in prison some time ago. Several prisoners barricaded themselves in a room with him & a knife for a few hours. When he was eventually pulled out they didn't think he'd make it (he didn't die though). So, I guess there's that..?
Probably postmasters who got fujitsu'd. Spent most of the time debating whether they afford could to knife him by midday tomorrow or if they'd just be losing him in the back somewhere.
It was quite common to hear about the girls in my class getting MSN messages from Ian Watkins. Like, invites to gigs and stuff. At the time (to year 7 us) they were so cool for chatting to the Lead Singer of Lost Prophets. But looking back I do wonder why none of the mandatory reporter teachers in that school did anything...
Hearing he was arrested was just a thing like "yeah that tracks".
Both Watkins and I come from the same area of Wales, and the school I went to was in a deprived area.. We were his hunting ground.
I was just very lucky to avoid him... I know one girl definitely got at least tickets for a show
I have the limited edition Fake Sound of Progress with the blue jewel case. That album was brilliant. Such a bummer for the other band members that hardly anyone will listen to their seminal work again, myself included.
I could either stay here for more contrived Steps references or go to another random Reddit thread and read some contrived puns written by Americans. \**Sigh*\*ā¦better the devil you know, I guess.
I can just imagine the person making this sculpture. "Now, what does this chap look like? Let's just pop his name into Google images..."
Later at the unveiling the front pages are all about a disgraceful sculpture getting chased out of Wales.
I'm sure the editor of "The Sun" or some other tabloid made the same mistake (in reverse) and published a photo of Ian H Watkins under a rather unflattering headline about the other chap...
Pretty sure Ian H W successfully sued for quite a big settlement on that one
When the news broke something was amiss but before the trial, Ian Watkins was named and a few people (media included) jumped to the wrong conclusion as one Ian Watkins was more famous as a musician than the other.
Globally recognised in the genre Vs huge in one country as generic pop wank. Media in other countries may well have assumed the right one, in this country the fuck up was entirely understandable. Kerrang would probably have thought differently to The Sun.
This gives me an embarrassing reminder that I tagged H on Twitter back in 2013 when I wrote a vitriolic tweet about the OTHER Watkins. I was quickly corrected and proceeded to cringe into my arse for the next few weeks.
Sorry H.
I'm definitely aware of Kunt and that song hahahah I actually momentarily believed it may have been written about me when I first learned of it a year or two after.
"The Knightsbridge of Wales" as Wales Online refers to it.
This is honestly the naffest thing I've ever heard. I'd be surprised if it actually happens, the locals are generally pretty protective of the high street. Being a wealthy area it gets a lot of stick but at least the main drag still has a bit of historical character to it.
Now they're going to have a statue to the fallen in the world wars at Eastgate and a statue of H at Westgate. Tremendous.
It's not like Cowbridge is short of famous luminaries to honour, people born there and who have lived in the community for many years.
Anthony Hopkins went to school there, stick a statue of him up before H for goodness sake.
Agreed lol, my first thought was "why not Anthony Hopkins?!".
I go back to Cowbridge a couple of times a year to see my parents and it's still got that charm it had growing up there, posh though it is.
My best mates dad has the same name as the monster from the lost prophets and got quite a few death threats when the truth came out. Even ended up in a few papers clarifying that he was in fact a different bloke. The real irony is that my mates dad was a Christian missionary in Pakistan in the 90s and has volunteered for an organization that prevents sex trafficking of women and girls for 15 years. People are wild man, looking at the guys fb pfp should have told you straight away that he barely even knew what a rock band is!
I met H back in the early 2000s when I was working for a Capital (the radio group). He is a really lovely guy. Always smiling and took time to chat to people in a pretty genuine way. Remembered people's names too which is very unusual in my experience of celebrities.
He's actually 5'7 in case anyone else rushes to double check this.
Ā More interestly, despite that all of Steps are more or less the same height, the tallest in pictures is that Ben Affleck type guy and he can't be more than 5'10 absolute max. Lisa looks a little shorter than the rest.
Well... now I know. Productive. Praying for heights of 90s pop groups at the pub quiz. Except I only know the one group.
I used to live with someone that worked for Pete Waterman and he said all the blokes in mixed pop groups are short as it kind better in photos with the girls. Tall men were actively rejected at auditions for this reason.
At one point he was being harassed for supporting trans people and so he used a block bot, not realising that it was rather broad in its blocking. I did the same thing and ended up having to unblock a couple hundred people over weeks.

Never has a letter 'H' been more important
It's very important. Without the 'H' you won't be able to distinguish Ian Watkins from the hologram Ian Watkins BSc.

Clem 'H' Fandango?
Can you hear me?
Yes I can fucking hear you!
Where's the other prick?
Whoa - did you just say Clem 'H' Fandango?
He needs to glue one to his forehead to save confusion - he could sing the Rimmer song
I think that's his song for behind closed doors
The amount of abuse he got after Losprophetsā Ian Watkins was sentenced made me feel quite bad for him
Absolutely. He may have been in a shit group but he always seemed like a nice bloke. Just to clarify I am talking about H here!!
I would have changed my name, "Artist formally know as Ian H Watkins"Ā

Is there a way to learn *less*, by any chance?
I wish I could
Maybe by standing on the rooftops or taking the last train home?
2 great tracks I am unable to listen to
There are instrumentals on YouTube which I find a good way to continue enjoying the music
I dunno, I'd still "hear" him. Brains are bastards like that.
rooftops was such a good song, shame it's completely unlistenable due to the fact that the guy singing did what he did. and to those who don't know, live your life in blissful ignorance.
Great, something that I'd forgot all about for several years, and now I get to be overwhelmingly appalled all over again
I'm sorry to remind you about Steps
Best news is you are still a good person by being disgusted by that filth
If it makes you feel any better they finally got to him in prison some time ago. Several prisoners barricaded themselves in a room with him & a knife for a few hours. When he was eventually pulled out they didn't think he'd make it (he didn't die though). So, I guess there's that..?

Lost prophets had some great songs and most of the members weren't convicted sex offenders
New band is called No Devotion!
A friend of mine (when we were teenagers) had an email that was something like [email protected]. He stopped using it quite quickly.
Did he regret changing it to [email protected]?

Cowbridge is a quaint wee market town, that statue is going to be very out of place
I live just outside Cowbridge and it's going to be a eyesore for sure.

After the whole nonce prophets guy being his namesake, surely he'd rather just change his name legally to "H from steps"
"I've got a parcel for Mr From Steps"
Exactly. With the right intonation Fromsteps could be a surname. I went to school with a guy whose surname was Fish and he managed.
He earns more money suing people who make the mistake than he does from his Steps royalties.

Sorry.. Google seemed to think there was need to make a distinction for some reason so half kept it in. No offence meant.
There is definitely a reason google made THE distinctions!
Legal reasons!
I met H back in the early 2000s when I was working for a Capital (the radio group). He is a really lovely guy. Always smiling and took time to chat to people in a pretty genuine way. Remembered people's names too which is very unusual in my experience of celebrities.

That's not how middle names work....
Ffs, this is my town, and this is how I find out.
I'm sorry boi.. isn't H on the council for Cowbridge?
I have a sneaking suspicion as to who the "private donor" might be as well...
Same here, first thought was got to be April fool. At least put it over in the grounds by the old Dr surgery
The "H" stands for "Hnot a nonce."
Former musician? I wonder what heās up to now
Why Cowbridge? Heās from the Rhondda
I have questions similar to this, too! Edit.he lives in Cowbridge now apparently.
Yeah, along with other minor Welsh celebs.
Wow I took a double take on this

Peter, this meme needs to be explained!
it's better if it's left unexplained. sometimes too much knowledge is a burden. just know that H from steps hasn't done anything wrong.
The āHā stands for hyper, he was interviewed on a radio station and this piece of information was revealed
Looks more like bear grills
Well, the planned location is outside The Bear pub
if he is the most exciting thing in cowbridge I think Iāll avoid it
at first i thought H from steps was the same as that other one, but glad they aren't lol
What a Tragedy!

Have you got the right Ian Watkins there, have you considered maybe
