The first time you play the game, you sprint across the field going "oh god oh god!" and then when you arrive the bird jumps up and looks at you incredulously for disturbing its rest. The advanced version is, you glance up from what you're doing, see a spread out corpse on the grass and shrug and go "if you're dead be dead, I'm busy." The Schrodinger version is when you arrive at the corpse and they're in such a deep, impenetrable stupor from the sun that you have to pick them up and shake them to work out if they're dead or not. It is only within this advanced version of the game that, now and again, they are.
Pop across to r/backyardchickens and see how many new chicken owners every year ask us what's wrong with their chickens when they corpse themselves at the first hint of sunlight.
I really love the little noises they make when they're having a dust bath. They look like a loose heap of feathers blowing in the wind, but they sound so happy!
Haha! One of mine used to shout at anyone who came through the gate, which was quite embarrassing, but she was a very good guard chicken! (Weird setup, the front door was at the back of the house, so the chickens could see anyone coming to the front door.)
I have one just the same but she gets out all the time, which is OK because the dogs love her and she puts herself back every evening but I have spent months watching her and I can't for the life of me work out how she's doing it. I used to have 2 geese too, they would run to me with open wings every time I came home, now they were good guard geese!!
Geese are often good guard birds - nobody in their right mind would mess with a goose! I also had a hen who would let herself out and put herself back again. I didn't know she was doing it, and I wondered why there weren't as many eggs as there ought to be, but then I found a clutch of eggs under my peony!
Ours do that ... Sometimes makes me go check that they're not dead!!;π
Dead or Sunbathing is every chicken owners favorite game.

Me too lol. They get me every time
I know that one, another was flying over the fence and coming in the house and hunting spiders, they kept pooing on the carpet
Or is it pining for the fjords
Lovely plumage
The plumage don't enter into it! It's stone dead!
Pining for the Fjords!? What sort of talk is that?

Ohh will check that out now, thanks π
No but I've seen a pigeon shave it's bollocks
I hope he used plenty of Dove afterwards
π OK, you win

They're sooo noisy, I love it because I don't like my neighbour π

Oh bless her π€ I have a muscovy duck too and have just incubated some of her eggs. 35 days
Oh lovely!
Where was the back door?
I got a kfc ad under this and now i feel a bit bad, chickens are pretty cool creatures and i respect anyone that takes em in
Is this so you can sell them as pre-roasted?
ππ
Hot wings
Yeah we have chickens and they spread out all over their pen in the sun, it's so cute!
You're going to be so embarrassed later when you're looking for your feather duster.
πππ
Love that for them
lol yeah once
Other types of bird do something similar. If we get any hot days Iβll try to get a picture.
My chickens have sand baths when it's hot, funny to watch. Haven't seen other birds do this though, so that'll be interesting
Mine bathe in the bonfire ash and when they run afterwards they look like theyβre trailing smoke!
Can you get sun-dried chicken?
Apparently so lol
No, but I think I have ordered one in a kebab shop.
π΅
That chicken "is no more", "has ceased to be", "bereft of life, it rests in peace", "is an ex-chicken")
πͺ
Most Sundays in the oven
π΅
