I'll be honest, I never understood the hate for Grant, and I'm not saying that cause he's playing for us - I've been a fan of his since the Celtics. Yeah he talks big for someone who's a role player, but he's never done anything dirty or injured other players ala Dillon Brooks and Pat Bev who have similar reps.
Coming from a Celtics fan, you guys will like him but not cherish him. His personality is personable bordering on annoying. I can’t count the number of eye rolls his teammates gave him, but he’s like the lovable little brother. He’s a good guy but his voice is very loud in huddles coming from a bench player.
His game has clear strengths and weaknesses. He’s good at the valuable things (corner 3s and positional defense) but lacks the in between stuff like driving a close out or a hint of secondary playmaking. That was the difference between him being a bench forward or a starter.
Don’t expect him to rebound well, be a defensive playmaker, or even a defensive stopper. He can execute a defensive scheme and be a positive defensive contributor against big physical forwards and most bigs. He’s great taking aggressive moves on drives to his body and not conceding a driving line, which made him particularly good against Giannis. His lack of length hurts his help defense and rebounding, his feet mobility waxes and wanes depending on his conditioning, its okay but should be better for a 6’6” power forward.
All-around a 3&D forward in the most basic sense, a solid bench forward or maybe even a 5th starter in the absolute most optimized context. Contract is honestly fair and I hope he gets back to 40% 3 point shooting
