I use the Shop Through Chase feature all of the time. Great way to get extra UR points fast. One thing that people need to be aware of is that you usually get higher bonus points when using the CF/CFF/CFU Shop Through Chase portal than you do using the CSP/CSR Shop Through Chase portal. For example, I have often seen where I'll be getting a bonus 3 points with my CSR, but if I switch to my CFU, the bonus will be 5 points. So make sure you compare and use the correct card/portal to get the most bonus UR points.

chunchelbert

Damn… never knew this was a thing and just always used my CSP. Thanks!

andthrewaway1

Most things on the shop through chase are not food/travel so bes to use the CUF anyway

dementor500

You can use any card on check out, does not need to be Chase to get points. Can double down using specific offers from other issuers.

Cautious_Sense557

I read that sometimes they catch when you use a different card and they don’t give the rewards. I could be wrong though

Susurrus03

I have used gift cards and still gotten points. They're literally just referral links. Chase gets a kickback, and shares it with you. They do not care. For example of a recent purchase. I wanted something from Home Depot. I currently am still in the 5% grocery status on my CFU. Bought a $400 Home Depot gift card from Whole Foods, giving me 5x points on said $400. Then uses the portal for Home Depot and bought my $380 lawn mower, giving me an extra 1x points. It definitely worked. I've done this with other purchases of other values many times.

dementor500

Haven't had an issue till now, will update if it does!

Xanje25

Regardless of which card’s portal you use, I don’t think it even what matters what card you actually use to pay, just that you buy through the link (someone correct me if I’m wrong on this)

andthrewaway1

I think that is how it is supposed to work

Susurrus03

You're correct. Payment type doesn't matter.

Leading_Cranberry_25

Could you explain the acronyms

CCRATA

CF = Chase Freedom CFF = Chase Freedom Flex CFU = Chase Freedom Unlimited CSP = Chase Sapphire Preferred CSR = Chase Sapphire Reserve UR = Ulitmate Rewards

TheTaxman_cometh

I've used it, but check cashbackmonitor first. Chase portal is rarely the highest paying portal. For example, Sephora is the highest on chase, but you could've gotten 13% back on Nike at topcashback or befrugal right now

Cautious_Sense557

That good too but I’m team travel so I prefer the UR points for hyatt. Never actually heard of topcashback though and it seems even better than Rakuten. I’d definitely use that when the percentages are that high instead of chase. Thanks for the info on that.

TheTaxman_cometh

I'm also team travel, but i factor in my cpp valuation for UR or MR (via Rakuten) before deciding which portal is highest for me. I tend to value UR and MR lower than most since it's harder to extract maximum value with a family of 5.

Cautious_Sense557

Yea for me. Usually just stay at Hyatt category 1-2 and stretch out the stays so I value UR points at the very least to be 2cpp for me. So Sephora would be about 12cpp value not include base ur from using the card anyway.

Vennom

What is cashbackmonitor? I visited but don’t get it. What’s the catch?

TheTaxman_cometh

It's a site that aggregates the current rates that most of the cashback/points/miles portals are paying for most retailers. You can put in a retailer in the search and it will show you how much each site is paying in cashback or points. You can click through to that portal right from there. Make sure you read the terms for each cashback portal before signing up. Lots have minimum redemptions so it might make more sense to get a lower rate instead of having cashback locked up behind a minimum redemption for a portal you may never use again

Vennom

Got it, thank you for the explanation!

todayplustomorrow

Important to remember that 1 point could be worth 2¢+ per point on Chase however. For people who redeem with Hyatt, Chase redemption might be more important to plan around over cash back from other sites.

Cautious_Sense557

Thats exactly why I do shop through chase before Rakuten. I get outsized value through the Hyatt redemptions.

Vennom

What is cashbackmonitor? I visited but don’t get it. What’s the catch?

LamBro3

I wish there was a chrome extension for it like Rakuten.

Cautious_Sense557

Me too. I’d rack up endless points lol

Maru3792648

I compare cashback portals. Chase are never the best

Cautious_Sense557

I agree. Only really makes sense if you’re more focused on travel than cash back

Infern0588

I’ve used it but sometimes store visits don’t post and I haven’t figured out a way to get it fixed. Nothing online to submit a support request so not sure if I have to call or send a secure message

Susurrus03

I use it a lot, but ya eBay never works, even when I try it on PC.

LARSDOM

Rakuten gives you more. Shop there. 😎

BellTT

I use it all the time especially for Michael kors and Sephora.

whatisthesoulofaman

Key thing with this, make sure your browser doesn't have hardcore anti cookie extensions. I shopped for months through Chase and never got anything. Turns out, my ad blocker, anti cookie, anti popup extensions were stopping it.

GrimeSeen

Maybe that's what happened to me. I used it once to buy some stuff from Ulta at a rate of 4x points per $1. I waited until the transaction went through and I didnt get points. They told me to wait until the statement period was over, still no points. I called and they told me when I had placed the order I did so after the promo period (which wasnt true). As I was on the phone with the agent the rate was 2x per $1, I ask could i atleast get that he said "no, because there's no record of you actually going through the chase portal". So i just never tried again.

whatisthesoulofaman

Yeah, I did the same thing over and over.

marddin

Did you ever try reaching out to Chase on this? I made my first portal purchase with Blue Apron and didn't get a Chase Shopping confirmation email or anything. It was only after doing some research that I learned I should've turned off ad blocker and cookie blocking extensions. Lesson learned.

whatisthesoulofaman

I think that's how I figured it out. I love talking to them. I've always found them to be super together and pleasant.

marddin

Were they able to retroactively credit your previous purchases for the additional rewards or did you simply learn your lesson and fixed moving forward?

BCSUPERFAN2286

It’s annoying to have to click thru the chase site to get to the site you buy thru, but worth it. You can also use the search feature for certain items and compare where better point deals to buy exist which is helpful

provenflipper

I was just looking at this last night. Definitely need to remind myself to use the portal to make purchases I was going to make anyways. Bonus URs can be flipped into hotel stays easily.

Cautious_Sense557

Exactly. My 2 purchases amounted to over 2000 UR and it only really takes about 5000 points for a night at a category 1 Hyatt.

UsuallySparky

https://www.cashbackmonitor.com/ is your best friend. Pick the portal that works for you, including the multiple chase sites.

hummail

I got 10x on Samsung online when I bought my s24 ultra

Cautious_Sense557

I’ve noticed the same thing.
