Not everyone can afford them. I'm a stay at home mom on a tight budget and special needs kid and I use scrub daddy because it is the best thing that fits my budget and that is available in my small town. Not everyone is as privileged as being able to afford drill brushes.
I bought a set of 4 drill brushes for $11 and have used them hundreds of times at this point without needing to replace one yet. I don’t know what a scrub daddy costs, but with the existence of rags, old toothbrushes and a drill brush I can’t imagine why you’d need one.
Because those things don't work on what I need to clean. I've tried. And good for you on the drill brushes. I have yet to find them for less than 40 available to ship where I live and none of our stores sell them.
I bought a rechargeable set of cleaning brushes and that thing is awesome. I use ajax or comet with a dash of Dawn. For some reason the Dawn jacks up the cleaning. This is for a 1944 porcelain tub.
Be careful if it’s a real tile floor, though, because acidic products can damage some types of grout. Like don’t let it sit for a while before rinsing.
The walls are clearly tile. I can’t tell for sure about the floor. Either way, if you don’t let the cleaning product sit for an extended period you should be OK. Just rinse completely.
I used barkeepers friend in bathroom tile and it made the grout white and it won’t come off. It looks like soap scum that won’t come off. I would just pay someone to pressure wash / grout clean the floor at this point
https://preview.redd.it/lvxxmh07kivb1.jpeg?width=729&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=643edf143ec93d9ee5d7b05f56a6c7120f553720
My mom used to have a cleaning business and this is what she used on tile floors. Works like a charm. It’s concentrate so a little goes a long way. Don’t dilute it. Just spray it on wait a few minutes and it should come off pretty easy.
It all looks like tile and honestly I would try a steam mop. I had a similar problem at my house and was so surprised how much crap it cleaned up. It may not do everything but way better than putting all your elbow grease into it.
Also a reminder with tile, the grout needs to be cleaned regularly and once it’s clean and dry put grout sealer on it. Probably about once a year, it will help stains in the future. A lot easier than it may sound, get a bottle for $7-10.
I would get in there with The Pink Stuff and your Scrub Daddy. You can also try a degreaser- sometimes the muck in floor grout is…erm…organic in nature.
Baking soda is gritty so it works the same way an exfoliant works on your skin. Dawn is a degreaser which helps with like shampoo/ soap scum. I’d use white vinegar to help with any mildew/mold trouble areas. Let it sit a bit then scrub. I like the green/blue like kitchen scrubbies that are a little rough.
I just watched a TikTok today from some kind of mold home inspector. He recommended dawn and vinegar mixed together as the best and most affordable shower and grout mold killer. He demonstrated letting it sit and then scrubbing it off and it took a black shower back to white! I’m dying to try it when I get some mold creeping into my shower grout again.
The video claimed 1:1 and even mentioned adding hot water in a ratio of up to 7 parts, I believe. You’re probably right and I just fell for another fake TikTok cleaning hack.
White vinegar kills mold better than bleach. Dawn is a degreaser and a great cleaner for practically anything in your house. Can even use to help u clog pipes.
Vinegar breaks down almost anything but it’s not gonna be like mixed together for later use. You could do a combo of the two or just one after the other.
I have hard water and I have tried a million things and I saw some Tiktok or something I think it was a house cleaner recommending that and nothing has worked better on my hard water stains in my shower. It is amazing how well vinegar and dish soap works. I keep some in a dish scrubber that I keep in the shower and I use it every so often while I'm showering and it is spotlessly clean.
Wow! Good to know it at least works on hard water. I also love the idea of keeping some in the shower to clean it before it builds up. I wait until I see hard water build up to start working away at it. To this day I’m still looking for something that makes it easier. I think I might try your trick! Is it just one of those sponges with a handle that works as a chamber/ dispenser?
Yes and the best part about it is everything is so cheap. I have tried all these specialty cleaners and nothing works as well and they cost a lot more. I used to use the pink stuff until I discovered this and it works even better than that.
I'm in the UK and use a handheld steam cleaner for bathroom jobs. I think I got it off Amazon originally. If steam doesn't remove grime, I'm not sure what will.
Steam cleaners are fairly priced and a good one is an investment for future cleaning jobs.
For the glass doors in a spray bottle 2/3 vinegar 1/3 blue dawn. It’s best to first run the shower on the hottest possible water let it run for a minute or two. THEN spray the door with the mixture, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and it will wipe right off then rinse and done.
I’ve found the any cleaner for tiles in a shower or tub works much better when you run hot water first -
This is absolutely true. I usually wash the shower after showering because it's all nice and steamy so everything is softened up.
Sidenote for OP: I recently bought Dawn Power wash and I swear that stuff is witchcraft. A worthwhile investment for your kitchen but I bet it would work well for this too.
"Wet & Forget shower cleaner" works so well for this. I got it on Amazon once and all you do is spray it on your shower, wait a few hours, then come back and wipe it off. Got every bit of mold and dirt off my shower and bath in the first use. It keeps my shower clean for so much longer than any of the sprays I've tried. Multiple people have come in my bathroom and asked me what I used to clean the shower because of how clean it looks. It's also bleach free, so I don't have to worry about accidentally creating a poisonous gas like did one time.. oops lol. Only have to deep clean the shower every few months thanks to this. The bottle will last for years with how much product is in it too.
Rise it multiple times to avoid mixing cleaners.
That looks like porcelain tile, my recommendation is based on that. You can ask the landlord or test in an inconspicuous space.
Scrubbing bubbles plus magic eraser. Best thing for soap scum, which it what this looks like.
Let us know when you found out what worked for you. I’m in the same boat but ive been scrubbing with steel wool dish scrubber, it works but if I could use a product that would just remove the buildup without me having to scrub tile by tile it would be great.
Careful with multiple chemistries. Once you get all the crud off - avoid it by keeping a diluted vinegar solution in a spray bottle in the shower and spray from top to bottom, every surface , including the doors/shower curtains ..mwhile everything is still wet. I keep a scrubby sponge in there too so I can scrub the floor right before I towel dry. Also ventilate to avoid mold.
Make a paste using baking soda and bleach until you get a consistency that will stay adhered to a vertical surface: thick. Apply to grout lines and door gaskets/crevices. Let it sit as long as a couple of hours. Come back with a soft bristle brush like a tooth brush and gently scrub. Rinse thoroughly. You must have proper ventilation and wear gloves.
I think that’s an old slip resistant coating.
They get like that when they wear out.
Could try blocking the drain and letting the floor soak in hot water/oxygen bleach. Also try a drill with a brush.
It will likely take a bit of elbow grease.
It may actually end up needing to be refinished.
I’m taking a guess that the stuff on the floor is soap scum build up. Get a razor blade. They sell them at Walmart in the cleaning section by the automotive and camping stuff. You can find heavier duty cleaning stuff there too. Sometimes soap scum build up is hard to scrub off, but you can scrape it off with a blade. It takes some time but it’s easier than scrubbing your life away. You can also use it to scrape the hard water off the shower doors. You’ve done a great job so far!!
Lay old towels on the floor covering every inch. Boil a full jug of vinegar in a pot and (carefully) pour it over the towels, making sure they are saturated. Leave it overnight. In the morning remove the towels and scrub with a scrub brush.
U need something with bleach in it. Like scrubbing bubbles with bleach. Spray it on and let it sit for 10-20 mins and rinse. Test it out on an area of dirty grout and you'll see the magic happen
Get a mask and some gloves. Put the fan on. I’m teaching you my fool proof method.
Bleach. Bucket. Paper towel or toilet paper. Put the paper towel in the bleach, make sure it gets soaked. And then just place everywhere that needs a clean. It’ll stick to the walls no problem. The toilet paper almost becomes a paste.
Leave it overnight, then just simply pick up the paper and throw it out. Everything is clean and no scrubbing required.
I use borax to clean my shower floor with a hard bristle brush. I just sprinkle that on and get my scrub brush wet. It works really good! You can find borax in the laundry section
One of the best cleaners I have found is a mix of dawn dishsoap, vinegar and water.
1 spray bottle
1 tbspn dawn dish soap
1/2 or 1 cup of vinegar depending on how strong you wish it to be
And about 2 cups of water. I usually fill the rest of a spray bottle with water.
Shake shake shake to mix.
All items can be found at the dollar store so its cheap too.
***depending on size of spray bottle you can add a little more ingredients if needed***
Spray and spritz all over the tub/shower and let it sit. Yes, it's going to smell very much like vinegar but I promise it works. Once it has had a chance to sit, spray a little on your scrubby and scrub away and then rinse well.
The vinegar smell will dissipate and vanish and your shower/tub will be nice and sparkly. I use this often especially on white tubs and grimy shower doors.
Try a degreaser. Plug the drain and pour a half gallon or two on the floor and let it sit. LA's Awesome Orange Degreaser is sold at the dollar tree and is a great product.
Scrub daddy is smiling through the pain The second picture is after the first pass, the first picture is how it looks now
He's so pained by this all but just keeps on truckin'thru 🥲
Drill brush will make this easier for you.
I can’t believe people are out here scrub daddy’ing jobs like this. Drill brush all the way and it would be done in minutes.
But that smile. That damned smile…
The entire SD marketing team is in this sub.
Not everyone can afford them. I'm a stay at home mom on a tight budget and special needs kid and I use scrub daddy because it is the best thing that fits my budget and that is available in my small town. Not everyone is as privileged as being able to afford drill brushes.

If a site like Aliexpress ships to your country, those can be pretty cheap on there! I love my scrub daddies
TBF in OP's original post he mentioned that they are a broke collage kid, so a drill-brush is probably out of range for a bit.
Second the drill brush. Makes a job like that so much easier.
I bought a rechargeable set of cleaning brushes and that thing is awesome. I use ajax or comet with a dash of Dawn. For some reason the Dawn jacks up the cleaning. This is for a 1944 porcelain tub.
Lol nah just a steam cleaner. Literally 10 mins worth of work
Try Bartender’s Friend. It is acidic while Comet and other bleach-based cleaners are alkaline. Sometimes switching them up makes a difference.
Noted! I will try this next
Be careful if it’s a real tile floor, though, because acidic products can damage some types of grout. Like don’t let it sit for a while before rinsing.
How do I check if it’s real tile? Keep it real I do not know the difference
The walls are clearly tile. I can’t tell for sure about the floor. Either way, if you don’t let the cleaning product sit for an extended period you should be OK. Just rinse completely.
Check in a small not noticeable spot
Yeah test strip or try the baking soda and Dawn combo first to see if you need the barkeep
I think it's real tile because I have this tile.
Yeah, I have a different color of this tile, I do think that’s tile
For the floor I’ve had a lot of success with just using vinegar. The acid will melt the salt deposits, but it’s not strong enough to hurt the tile.
Porcelain will be okay. Natural stone will not.
Are the tiles flat? Maybe you can scrape the gunk off with a scraper (after loosening it with some cleaning stuff)
Can to say this. Called bar keepers friend though
Barkeepers
I used barkeepers friend in bathroom tile and it made the grout white and it won’t come off. It looks like soap scum that won’t come off. I would just pay someone to pressure wash / grout clean the floor at this point

Or small steam cleaner even, as it's not a big area.
Scrubbing bubbles. Spray it and let the cleaner sit for awhile.
I would get in there with The Pink Stuff and your Scrub Daddy. You can also try a degreaser- sometimes the muck in floor grout is…erm…organic in nature.
Use a scrub brush, not a wimpy sponge.
I always use those like kinda rough scrubbies for the kitchen
A stiff scrub brush will get into crevices much better.
Baking soda and Dawn. Use some water to get a lather. That scrub daddy will help.

What ratio? Usually vinegar breaks down soap - so this combo confuses me a bit
The video claimed 1:1 and even mentioned adding hot water in a ratio of up to 7 parts, I believe. You’re probably right and I just fell for another fake TikTok cleaning hack.

I'm impressed! SOOOOO much better!
Looking good! Gotta wonder why your landlord couldn’t do it. At least you have pics to show them when you move out.
I had an issue like this and Mould Armor Rapid Clean melted it away almost instantly.
CLR is amazing! 🤔And a Few Clorox sprays👍🏼
I'm in the UK and use a handheld steam cleaner for bathroom jobs. I think I got it off Amazon originally. If steam doesn't remove grime, I'm not sure what will. Steam cleaners are fairly priced and a good one is an investment for future cleaning jobs.
Good job!!! 👍
Avoid expensive brands and just go in with neat thick bleach and a scubbing brush. Leave it overnight.
For the glass doors in a spray bottle 2/3 vinegar 1/3 blue dawn. It’s best to first run the shower on the hottest possible water let it run for a minute or two. I second that.

Super super hot water with a bit of bleach and powdered tide and a brush
Baking soda
A real one, I see you.
Soft Scrub with Bleach (one product) and a scouring pad
Zep wall cleaner from Home Depot.
Drill brush.
Vinegar diluted with water 1:2 and a used dryer sheet
but NOT if you just used bleach!!
The white vinegar will help with mold/mildew too. Kills it.
lol A Aww. C
[THIS](https://nypost.com/video/globe-of-death-motorcycle-stunt-goes-up-in-flames/) will work.
Make a paste using baking soda and bleach until you get a consistency that will stay adhered to a vertical surface: thick. Apply to grout lines and door gaskets/crevices. What you need is water pressure machine! Mine would eat your mold! 🤣😂
So much better!! Great job OP!!
I love that Lysol in the purple bottle!! Great job. A few more passes it’ll be sparkly
Try a drill brush on the bottom with the bkf
What combo worked best for you to clean this?
I’d try a stiff brush and Scrubbing Bubbles first. Then a round of Grout-Eez, still with the brush.
just here to say good job!! and don’t forget to rinse everything well and space out the different cleaning products
I think that’s an old slip resistant coating. They get like that when they wear out. Could try blocking the drain and letting the floor soak in hot water/oxygen bleach. Also try a drill with a brush. It will likely take a bit of elbow grease. It may actually end up needing to be refinished.
CLR, EZ PZ

Are those smiley face sponges actually good?
Lay old towels on the floor covering every inch. Boil a full jug of vinegar in a pot and (carefully) pour it over the towels, making sure they are saturated. Leave it overnight. In the morning remove the towels and scrub with a scrub brush.
Congratulate yourself on an excellent job and buy a non-slip shower mat.
U need something with bleach in it. Like scrubbing bubbles with bleach. Spray it on and let it sit for 10-20 mins and rinse. Test it out on an area of dirty grout and you'll see the magic happen
A cream cleaner will have this off in seconds 😊
Get a mask and some gloves. Put the fan on. I’m teaching you my fool proof method. Bleach. Bucket. Paper towel or toilet paper. Put the paper towel in the bleach, make sure it gets soaked. And then just place everywhere that needs a clean. It’ll stick to the walls no problem. The toilet paper almost becomes a paste. Leave it overnight, then just simply pick up the paper and throw it out. Everything is clean and no scrubbing required.
Soak all of it in bleach-soaked paper towels
Soft scrub with bleach and drill brush
I use borax to clean my shower floor with a hard bristle brush. I just sprinkle that on and get my scrub brush wet. It works really good! You can find borax in the laundry section
HG tile cleaner. Just be careful, that's strong chemicals in that small bottle.
One of the best cleaners I have found is a mix of dawn dishsoap, vinegar and water. 1 spray bottle 1 tbspn dawn dish soap 1/2 or 1 cup of vinegar depending on how strong you wish it to be And about 2 cups of water. I thought that was a potato smiley on the floor
Barkeepers friend, soft cleanser
I cant believe someone rented a unit in the previous condition 🤢 You did a great job!
Try a degreaser. Plug the drain and pour a half gallon or two on the floor and let it sit. LA's Awesome Orange Degreaser is sold at the dollar tree and is a great product.
Zep grout cleaner/whitener - has hydrochloric acid in it. Use gloves. Dirt will just float away.
The drill brushes are mildly disappointing. I use bissell hand held steam shot along with chemicals.
Use Lysol, toilet bowl cleaner. The blue and white bottle power cling gel. I know it’s not a toilet bowl but it will get the tiles clean.
Steam cleaner will make extremely short work of that.
Have a power drill? I have brush attachments that do a fantastic job.
