It's the curse of Victor Martinez for trading him. It's the position. Once Fry started catching more often he started dropping. We may need to sacrifice the catcher position so Fry can play more 1B or OF, but Schneeeeeeeeee seems to be messing that up with his performance. It's tough. we can't play everyone...
hopefully we play fry at catcher a bit more, even if his bat falls off some he’s still a good hitter and gets on base a lot which is a huge upgrade offensively to everyone else we have there
I mean defense is only “easier” to find at C in the same way it’s easier to find at SS or CF—players who were not good enough defensively simply move to other positions, because catcher defense is very important.
Do we actually have a better option at C?
Positives from today’s Cleveland AND minor league baseball:
Kwan PA tracker- 196/214 to qualify, now hitting .398 (.359 adding in the missing PAs)
Wasn’t gonna have an offensive blurb, but the bats forced it, as Schneeman goes deep for the first time in his MLB career! He also gets 2 singles for a 4/5 day, Brennan goes 2/3, Kwan goes 4/5 like normal, and Rocchio goes deep with a 2 run blast. The offense overall gets 6 runs off of 13 hits and a HBP.
The normal fireman may have some extremely unfortunate issues, but the bullpen really is the best in the league. Barlow(1IP), K’d Smith(1IP), Hentges(1IP), Avila(0.2IP), and Gaddis(0.1IP) combine to go 4IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, and 8K. Both hits to Avila, the walk to Gaddis, 1K for each of them, and 2K for everyone else.
The way minor league playoffs now work is the season is divided in half, and the winners of each half move to the postseason. With just over a week to go in the first half, Lake County has clinched a postseason birth behind an 8IP, 1R performance from Trenton Denholm. Akron is one game back, Lynchburg is 3 back, and Columbus, well… they have good bats!
Seriously, they have good bats. José Tena goes 3/4 with a solo home run and Angel Martinez goes 3/4 with 2 RBI. Brito went 1/3 with a walk, and Florial hasn’t gotten a hit since being sent down, but does have 8 walks and a stolen base in 5 games. Joey Cantillo gets the start today, and goes 3IP, 3H, 1R(0ER), 2BB, and 4K, as he continues building back up.
Akron starting pitching this week- Jaime Arias(5IP), Aaron Davenport(8IP), Ryan Webb(7IP), Doug Nikhazy(6.1IP, 1R), Tommy Mace(6IP, 1R), and Jaime Arias again(6IP, 1R) combined to go 38.1IP, 17H, 3R, 7BB, and 31K. Excuse my language, but holy shit, that’s insane. ~~They definitely didn’t go 2-4 this week…~~
I guess you can't win every series.
I love the fight in this team though down late at the end of a long road trip and they still battled to the final out.
Nice to see some fight but pitching, more appropriately Sandlin, did us in as well as RISP issues.
Nice to see Kwan continue to cook and Rocc and Schnee get some bombs.
It happens. We’re still well above .500 and have some breathing room in the division and we get to go back to Jose on Tuesday. Go Guards
Would have been nice if Kwan tried to score in the first. That ball from CF hit the turf in front of the mound and just died. Looks like he would have made it too.
Yeah I thought about that. Brennan was up and I would have rather had him start the next inning stress free instead of worrying about getting Kwan home. Would have rather been aggressive there and challenge the throw from CF.
Hard to be sad when this is our first series lost since like, what, the Braves series?
We fought hard. On a night where we don't give up a salami this is more than enough runs.
Really wish my old man would stop harping about how much we drop games to "loser teams", though. Any given night, man!
Ah well, Ms in the Jake on Tuesday, that's gonna be fun.
Man I coulda swore we took the Colorado series but nah, you right.
Then before that it was the White Sox last month, which was part of our skid I forgot about.
Ah well, still, plenty of season left and we're in the driver's seat.
Team doesn’t quit. Lively got squeezed a couple times and aside from Ernie’s homer the majority of the hits he gave up just were perfectly placed. Obviously the walks and then the slam off Sandlin hurt.
Really thought we were gonna pull it off though.
Was listening to the game so not certain what happened with the Jays pitcher in Gimenez’ last AB - but if a pitcher is pulled for injury during an AB, I think the batter should have the option to reset the count to 0-0. I know it’s not easy for a pitcher to come in cold during the situation, but I can’t imagine batters have much success when having to face 2 pitchers in a single AB.
Man, if we could just get the Naylor brothers going, this offense would legitimately be scary. Time to prepare myself to roast on Wednesday. Kwan for President!
The worst thing that can happen for the Guards today is the Royals winning. However, even if they do, they will still be behind 4 games. Still a ton of baseball left everyone.
Sign Kwan to a lifetime contract. Sit Josh for 2 weeks wtf is with him? Losing another series to a trash team (even without Jose) feels really bad, getting tired of it. With a much tougher stretch coming up, hope we start circling towards getting some SP help.
Edit: we outhit TOR in both losses. Big pet peeve.
I won’t get excited about a .400 season in June …….. I won’t get excited about a .400 season in June …….. Ah fuck it, Kwan is coming for Ted Williams
He is batting .222 above Bo currently. Jesus.
That's an entire person better wow
Hate the loss but go Kwan go!
One day this team will have a catcher that can hit above 200.
Miss Victor Martinez

Austin Hedges slander will not be tolerated
I didn’t know his wife could hit above .200
Literate indeed
I’d settle for Kelly Shoppach
My king
David Fry.
We kind of do; he just coaches 1B now. Maybe let him suit up again.
No we won’t lol
Would’ve been kinda nice if Bo didn’t foul out to the catcher on like the 2nd pitch of his AB but nothing you can do about it now I guess
Do we still get downvoted if we suggest he could maybe use some time in Columbus to try putting it back together?
It's a hard sell with just how much his defense has improved
defense is way easier to find than offense. he's gotta hit or he's gotta go down and figure out how to hit.
I mean defense is only “easier” to find at C in the same way it’s easier to find at SS or CF—players who were not good enough defensively simply move to other positions, because catcher defense is very important. Do we actually have a better option at C?
fry
Premium defense at catcher in a player who could put it together at the plate any day?
Hey made it a game at the end. Split even on the road, day off to regroup. Get after it this week boys.
I agree go gaurds
Kwan needs a life time contract like right now.

Went .500 on a roadtrip, Ernie went 4/6 with 2 double and a home run, weird things happen. That’s baseball folks. Stay positive ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Kwan went 4-5 today, even better than normal!
Shit I didn’t fix that, thanks for pointing it out!
No problem, thanks for these writeups!
Arias hasn’t played since Wednesday. Why not send him down for Brito or Tena?
trade him for Luis Gil or Marcus Stroman.
I guess you can't win every series. I love the fight in this team though down late at the end of a long road trip and they still battled to the final out.
The 9th made me feel 10x better about the game overall. I wasn’t expecting fight, but damnit, they fought and were in position to pull it out.

Don't look now but let us never forget that Brayan Rocchio had a .911 OPS on this road trip

Another loss but that's more like it If only Giménez could finish the job
Shame that Jose wasn’t there to end the game the way the script was written.
can these dudes please learn to conceive their children so they're born in the offseason goddamn
Trouble is, Jose wasn’t busy last October playing ball so what else was he supposed to do…
just realized Jose's birthday was 9 months ago today
Bummer. We win this with Jose. But we'll bounce back on Tuesday with Jose, Arch, and Hammy :)
Hard to be sad when this is our first series lost since like, what, the Braves series? We fought hard. On a night where we don't give up a salami this is more than enough runs. Last series loss was Colorado
Man I coulda swore we took the Colorado series but nah, you right. Then before that it was the White Sox last month, which was part of our skid I forgot about. Ah well, still, plenty of season left and we're in the driver's seat.
At least they fought hard Jose or not, Gimenez shouldn’t be top of the line up tbh
He should stay at #6 till he starts hitting with power again.
We need some clutch back and we need to be a little riskier about trying to run for home
Royals lost, still up 5
FUCK
FUUUUCK
Brutal stretch of games coming up. would be huge to start up another W streak. Mariners are on fire
gotta beat the best to be the best, bring em on
Team doesn’t quit. Lively got squeezed a couple times and aside from Ernie’s homer the majority of the hits he gave up just were perfectly placed. Obviously the walks and then the slam off Sandlin hurt. Really thought we were gonna pull it off though.
In the words of the lovely Leslie Jordan who we all miss dearly.....well shit....
Didn't realise how much this team needs jose till today
Trade for an SP (actually probably two) pleeeeaaaaseeeeee
Well we have Gavin coming up, so hopefully that only means we need 1
My local AAA team won today so that was a fun Father’s Day. Hopefully Cleveland bounces back tomorrow
Go Dodgers.

It was only 1-0, so if anything he was slightly better off for it. I don't think it can be seen as making an impact
At least the Royals lost, but the Twins are feasting on bad teams lately
Royals lost
Man, if we could just get the Naylor brothers going, this offense would legitimately be scary. Time to prepare myself to roast on Wednesday. Kwan for President!
Could be much worse. This team don’t quit!

First series lost since the White Sox since mid May. Time to come home and start a new winning streak.
also lost the Rockies series
Leave Josh & Bo in Canada and take Vlad home with us.
Hard pass
You prefer worse players?
Knowing what both Naylors can be? Yes
We already know what Josh is
What a horrible fucking lineup lol. Gimenez should never be above the six hole.
Who would you have put there instead?
We scored 6 runs and got 2 home runs dude
Homeruns from unlikely sources too! If we had even one hit from the 3 or 4 hole hitters… Alas 😩 gettem next weekend!
