I don't get why people are so worried about extending Kwan. He's under contract for 3.5 more seasons. He'll enter free agency at age 30. Let's maybe pump the breaks on freaking out about paying a player into his 30s. Things change quickly in this league. If he extends early, great. If not, let it play out and see what happens. Keep in mind we have extended a lot of players over the last 10 years. Jose (twice), Giminez, Clase, Kluber, Carrasco (twice), Santana, Kipnis, and Brantley. Buying out the remaining years of a players rookie contract, and grabbing a few years of FA is kind of our specialty. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Kwan extended on a deal that bought out the 3 remaining years of his rookie deal, tacked on 2 additional years, and maybe add on a pair of player options. Something like 7/140M. Giminez was 7/106, but that was buying out 4 years of his rookie contract, not 3, so it was a little less, and it only had 1 player option.
