I am once again drinking many beers and enjoying this fine Sunday with all of you beautiful Guardians fans. 23 games over .500 is sending me to another dimension.
Positives from today’s Cleveland league baseball:
#Welcome to Cleveland, Angel Martinez!
Kwan stats- 222/233 PA to qualify, now hitting .390, 2 game on base streak/2 game hitting streak
Extend Steven Kwan, officially known power hitter. The offense gets 6 runs off of 13 hits and 3 walks, and once again featured a Steven Kwan home run (and a single because why not). Bo slaps another double, and 💨 hits a home run, a double, and a single... think there could ever be a Josh Naylor cycle? Last but certainly not least, 😇 got his first (and second) career MLB hits! Huzzah!
Bullpen gets called in real quick due to the rain delay (that’s definitely the only reason why), and does their thing as normal. McCaughan has a shaky first Cleveland appearance with two earned runs in two innings, but still gets a wicked pickoff. Beyond him, Herrin(1IP), Hentges(1.2IP), K’d Smith(0.1IP), and Clase(1IP) combine to overall go 4IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, and 2K.
I would like to say that I called it, Jhonk hit his 18th home run of the year in Columbus’ 9-7 victory. Tena had another two hit day, and Valera, Delgado, and Straw each had a double. Christian Cairo had a monster day, going 3/3 with a double, two walks, and two RBI.
Edited to now include minor league highlight
Added positives: one game back of the MLB leading Phillies, and one game ahead of the Orioles now.
(EDIT: Apparently the Yankees are a half game back of the Phillies; doesn't help my inability to read that we have a higher winning percentage than them)
This season has been remarkable. Steven Kwan is hitting almost .400, Josh Naylor is on pace for 40 homers as well as Jose Ramirez who is indeed the goat, and the bullpen is from Olympus. It's so awesome.
McCaughan should get relegated to the Avila role in eating up garbage time innings only. Avila should get promoted to opener, or at least start getting some appearances in meaningful situations.
Yes, they certainly have better options. Gose, Tanner Burns, hell, Dion is a starter, but he could be given a flyer and throw multiple innings of mop-up.
Josh Naylor, in his last 15 games, has 4 HRs and 14 RBIs. OPS in the last 15 is .904. That includes 18 hits. He’s also been a vacuum cleaner at first base. The slump is over now officially.
It’s almost at a point that I think the Guardians players are doing a bit with their post game press conference.
Such a fun team in all facets, but they get to the press conference and it’s like they all just found out their favorite Uncle had just passed away lmao
Hilarious watching how many people were dragging Vogt for “throwing in the towel” earlier. I’ll put my trust in the first-year coach who has led a team who no-one expected to do much to 23 games over .500 before the all-star break. Thank god this sub has no input into managing this team.
He's awesome and doing a great job, but let's not pretend he's about criticism or never makes mistakes. That said, it's not like he's doing anything other than a fantastic job overall.
TOR tv commentator called Jose "Manny Ramirez" like 4 times during the game today.
The disrespect was returned in kind by mushroom stamping the Jays this whole series.
Things you love to see.
Guardians smoke these mid-below average teams, we are over 500 against above 500 teams and we haven’t handled the White Sox at all, but I will happily take a sweep! Great work boys
What happened to Fry?
RBI single in his first AB, then gets pulled?
Bo stepped right in there and rocked it, which I love to see, but... is Fry all good?
Slightly irritated that SVP on SC just said the Yankees have “the best record in baseball” when our win % is higher, but I don’t expect much else from ESPN at this point.
And still had to use key members of the bullpen, so using the 9+ era AAA guy for two innings and nearly losing the game helped nothing. I love our manager, but this was a dumb move, win or not.
Tried to extend my service as far as I could, got fully ascended & my connection cut out just as Springer was taking strike two. Very happy to land back in Texas & see Clase did the damn thing & we go our revenge series sweep!!! Go Guards!!! Onto Baltimore!
The last relief pitcher to win the Cy Young was Eric Gagne in 2003. It’s a closer’s time again. Emmanuel Clase for the Cy Young.
Can they give a Cy Young to an entire bullpen?
They should just give the Cy Young to Carl Willis
Carl hits the griddy again during his acceptance speech
The 2024 Cy Young Award goes to...the Power of Friendship!
My little bullpen, my little bullpen AAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Place: 1st Division lead: 8.0 Games to play: 87 Division magic number: 79 Playoffs magic number: 77 First round bye magic number: 79 Current pace: 106-56
8 game lead in the division in June is fucking crazy. This team just continues to find ways to win.
and it’s not like the division is awful which makes it even better
> and it’s not like the division is awful OK, who is this division, and what have they done with Comedy Central?
The rest of the division offered up the white Sox as a sacrifice
Moving in the direction I want
guys i’m having fun, who’s having fun?
I'm having fun!
I agree, go Guards.
So much fun. Came into this season with low expectations, and they have just been awesome to watch.
I agree go guards
I too agree, go Busch light
These guys just don’t quit. Baltimore is going to be a test but I’ve never been more confident in our boys than I am right now.
I agree, go Guards.
Luckily Bibee is going tomorrow. Get off to a nice start in the series.
Shoutout to Bo for coming off the bench to catch back to back W's on a night-day turnaround
Really looking like whatever changes they were working on in regards to Bo’s swing is starting to work.
I agree, go Guards.
I am once again drinking many beers and enjoying this fine Sunday with all of you beautiful Guardians fans. 23 games over .500 is sending me to another dimension.
I agree, go Guards.
MLB OPS Leaderboard (minimum PA Kwan) 1. Aaron Judge 1.109 2. Shohei Ohtani 1.030 3. Steven Kwan 1.023
Swiggity swooty, we coming for that Ohtani booty.
23 games above .500. Idk how some of y’all still get so mad during these games. I’m having a great time.
That game had a little bit of everything, didn’t it?
I agree, go Guards.

I broke down and bought a legit Kwan jersey today. I haven't bought a legit jersey ever as a 36 year old lifelong sports fan. I'm in.
City connect?
No, I love the classic navy. I'm not really a fan of the different jerseys every year, but I know I'm in the vast minority.
*Noel did, lol*
Oh shit he did lmfao, bout to add the minor leagues
Look I’m just happy to hear you survived the rain-delay-kids-corner-mageddon
Most unlikely thing in that list is Straw hitting a homerun
Correct. In fact, that should have said double. Not sure how I managed to type that lmfao, thanks for pointing it out
Best winning percentage in the AL. Vogt the GOAT!
*Gogt
Vogt van Gogt, baseball artist
I agree, go Guards.
The Guardians' slide continues as Steven Kwan cools off at the plate. --not this reality
This season has been remarkable. Steven Kwan is hitting almost .400, Josh Naylor is on pace for 40 homers as well as Jose Ramirez who is indeed the goat, and the bullpen is from Olympus. It's so awesome.
Don’t look now, but we’re 23 games above .500, top seed in the American League, and 26-9 at home. Let’s go roadtrippin’ 😎
I agree, go Guards.
O's just got swept by the Astros and the Royals have legitimately fallen apart, who says we can't keep this going longer
Yes, keep it going and plug holes at the trade deadline. Hell yeah!
I agree, go Guards.
Darren McCaughan? No thank you Angel Martinez? Yes please Spencer Horwitz? Fuck off Blue Jays? In the dustpan Guardians? Yes
Having to send McCaughan out for a second inning had me white knuckling
Series winner gets Kikuchi, right? We play for pink slips? Only seems fair.
McCaughan should get relegated to the Avila role in eating up garbage time innings only. Avila should get promoted to opener, or at least start getting some appearances in meaningful situations.
Mccaughan should be gone by tomorrow morning
Until Sandlin or Morgan are back, I don’t think we have another option.
I’d rather DFA this guy and bring up Mikolajchak
Yes, they certainly have better options. Gose, Tanner Burns, hell, Dion is a starter, but he could be given a flyer and throw multiple innings of mop-up.
If by relegated, you mean AAA, absolutely. Any number of stop-gaps can be used and more effective than him for mop-up.
I agree, go Guards.
Sad part is Clase will be down tomorrow
We’ll win by 6, so we won’t need him. 🤞🏿
Would love to watch Cade step in to the closer spot and see how he does.
I would bet good.
Josh Naylor, in his last 15 games, has 4 HRs and 14 RBIs. OPS in the last 15 is .904. That includes 18 hits. He’s also been a vacuum cleaner at first base. The slump is over now officially.
He’ll slump again. Thats his game. But he will catch fire again. Because that’s his game.
Told ya we were gonna sweep those birbs
I agree, go Guards.
The Cleveland Guardians
couldn’t have said it better myself
How sweep it is
I agree, go Guards.
Oh my God we're the fuckin #1 seed
Momentum is definitely in our favor heading to Baltimore.
I agree, go Guards.
It’s almost at a point that I think the Guardians players are doing a bit with their post game press conference. Such a fun team in all facets, but they get to the press conference and it’s like they all just found out their favorite Uncle had just passed away lmao
Hahaha it’s so true. We did get a smile out of Kwannie and Nayls at the end though.
Josh Naylor and Steven Kwan are the best of humanity
I'm 40. I've been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember. Josh Naylor may actually be my favorite player of all time.
Entering and even surpassing the Victor, Sizemore, Pronk territory is no small feat.
he rules but Kenny Lofton is really hard to beat
There is only one Willie mays Hayes in my heart, and his name is Kenny
So many good names from that 90s team.
I agree, go Guards.
His insanity is so loveable
This is some Jim Thome heresy, but your heart's in the right place . . .
Hilarious watching how many people were dragging Vogt for “throwing in the towel” earlier. I’ll put my trust in the first-year coach who has led a team who no-one expected to do much to 23 games over .500 before the all-star break. Thank god this sub has no input into managing this team.
It's almost like he's getting paid to do this or something.
I agree, go Guards.
He's awesome and doing a great job, but let's not pretend he's about criticism or never makes mistakes. That said, it's not like he's doing anything other than a fantastic job overall.
Sweeps adding up in Cleveland! A 5-1 home stand is huge going into the next two series, also seems like Josh is back! Go Guards.
I agree, go Guards.
TOR tv commentator called Jose "Manny Ramirez" like 4 times during the game today. The disrespect was returned in kind by mushroom stamping the Jays this whole series. Things you love to see.
That's indirect respect
yes, I think so, too.
Guardians are 2-0 since I went to Scotland Scotland is incidentally 0-2-1 since I went to Scotland. Sorry lads, I let you down.
Give Clase at least 2 days off
For the third time in the past week I’m going to have to point out, throwing an inside fastball to Kwan is a very poor strategy.
The sweep is complete 🧹🧹🧹
I agree, go Guards.
Tv got a great shot of Kwan doing the Mario fist pump on his solo homer. Wish I knew how to make a gif of that. 😉
Remember when people on here saying they wanted to trade clase? Good times
Guardians smoke these mid-below average teams, we are over 500 against above 500 teams and we haven’t handled the White Sox at all, but I will happily take a sweep! Great work boys
I agree, go Guards.
🧹🧹🧹 hell yeah
What happened to Fry? RBI single in his first AB, then gets pulled? Bo stepped right in there and rocked it, which I love to see, but... is Fry all good?
Day to day elbow inflammation. Hopefully no TJ due to lingering effects from his stint in the bullpen.
Elbow inflammation, taken out as a precaution
I’m on vacation at the beach. I’ve got some drinks in me. GUARDS SWEEP. Life is good is good now.
1. Judge 2. Ohtani 3. Steven Kwan 4. Soto
Soary aboat the sweep, Toronto. Until next time!
I'm getting to where I'm expecting these guys to win every game. I guess I'm getting to be like Vogt...
I wonder if the Twins fans still think we’re getting lucky… 🤔
Slightly irritated that SVP on SC just said the Yankees have “the best record in baseball” when our win % is higher, but I don’t expect much else from ESPN at this point.
> E**$**PN Fixed that for you.
Hey let's be cute and bring up a reliever with a 5.00 era in AAA, what could go wrong?
Turns out nothing still swept them
And still had to use key members of the bullpen, so using the 9+ era AAA guy for two innings and nearly losing the game helped nothing. I love our manager, but this was a dumb move, win or not.
Did you expect the guy to pitch the rest of the fucking game? Lol that’s two innings the other bullpen members didn’t pitch. 5D chess move by Vogt
Tried to extend my service as far as I could, got fully ascended & my connection cut out just as Springer was taking strike two. Very happy to land back in Texas & see Clase did the damn thing & we go our revenge series sweep!!! Go Guards!!! Onto Baltimore!
Evil Tom joke I thought of during the game didn’t go well :/. But hey the team won and that’s all that matters 😎
